I'm a current student at IXD program at Pratt, and honestly this program has been very disappointing. The program is still very much under development. It is under the school of information, which is very library-science focused. Although Pratt is famous for design, incoming students should be aware that this program does not place emphasis on visual design aspect of UX. It's very much focused on the research aspect of the UX design.

The program also has very few full-time professors. A lot of non full-time professors tend to be busy as they have work outside of school, and their class tend to be less organized. There is a big difference in the quality of classes taught by full-time staff and non full-time. Also the school is not planning to increase the number of classes despite having increased  number of incoming students this fall (2019), which will lead to worse instructor-to-student ratio.

Do you work on any interesting research projects at least? How helpful are they with career resources/internships?

thanks for your input! for anybody else who's unsure whether they should continue with pratt ixd, i've decided not to. some background, i come from a decently known american university. as i've only recently come across ux before my senior year, i don't have relevant internship experience so i wasnt sure if i could get into the hci programs i wanted straight out of undergrad. didn't get into my top programs and although i was glad i had a safety net at pratt, ive made my decision to find a ux job and then after a few years try my hand at the application cycle again.

good luck to everyone and all the aspiring designers out there!

I am assuming that you have graduated with your masters degree. How was your overall experience of the program?
