InMyDNA Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 (edited) I haven't seen any posts about the Gates-Cambridge Scholarship and thought I'd create a thread for this year's application cycle. The title is misleading, but I am following the nomenclature of previous threads. Based on last year's GC thread, interview invites were sent the first week of December. Has anyone heard from Gates-Cambridge? Posting: Feel free to update the thread with admissions status changes and notifications from GC. Edited December 5, 2019 by InMyDNA
Jillybean06 Posted December 6, 2019 Posted December 6, 2019 I received a rejection email today, if that is any help. However, I’m still being considered for admission. They must have looked at the application, so I’m hoping it is a good sign my application is not yet rejected! It is hard not to read too far into any of this! Haha
automatic_peas Posted December 9, 2019 Posted December 9, 2019 I got an interview for Gates -- I heard Friday. I applied for my program October 6, and was admitted by October 30. Does anyone have any interview tips for social sciences?
aliceoutofwonderland Posted December 9, 2019 Posted December 9, 2019 Haven't heard anything - biology applicant, received conditional offer 11/8.
coffeeortea Posted December 9, 2019 Posted December 9, 2019 I also got the interview invite on Friday, October 6th! I actually received the email from Gates 10 minutes before I received the conditional offer email from my Cambridge department. I'll be interviewing with the Arts panel!
Red_Ranger Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 (edited) Also a biological sciences applicant who hasn't heard anything. Conditional Acceptance on 11/6. What time in the morning/afternoon/evening did people hear back from them for social/arts panels? Edited December 10, 2019 by Red_Ranger
automatic_peas Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 I heard back around noon EST if that helps...
coffeeortea Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 I heard back just before noon EST as well.
aLphAnumeric13 Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 Any updates for physical or biological sciences panels? I haven't received word either.
aliceoutofwonderland Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 Radio silence, glad it’s not just me. It’s gotta be coming soon.
Red_Ranger Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 (edited) A friend of mine got an interview on 12/6 for biological sciences. He applied for a PhD and also noted that people got rejection emails. So maybe everyone that didn't get anything is either an MPhil (if they separated notifications between PhD and MPhil) or on a waitlist. For those who got a notification - were you a PhD or MPhil applicant? and for those who didn't get anything - same question. Edited December 11, 2019 by Red_Ranger
enburgia Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 Hey everyone -- I'm a Chemistry MPhil applicant. I haven't heard any news about admission or GC interview yet...
Red_Ranger Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 @coffeeortea @automatic_peas @Jillybean06 Were all of you PhD applicants? @aliceoutofwonderland Were you an MPhil applicant as well?
coffeeortea Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 @Red_Ranger No! I am an MPhil applicant in the MML department.
aliceoutofwonderland Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 (edited) @Red_Ranger I'm PhD applicant. @automatic_peas and @coffeeortea Did they give you a timeframe to accept the interview offer in the email? Edited December 12, 2019 by aliceoutofwonderland
coffeeortea Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 @aliceoutofwonderland Yes, I received it the 6th and they asked me to accept or decline the interview offer by the 10th.
aLphAnumeric13 Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 (edited) Anyone hear about the physical sciences panel? Does Gates-Cambridge send out interview invites separately/at different times for the different panels? Also does anyone know how to know which panel your degree program is categorized within? Edited December 12, 2019 by aLphAnumeric13
pecanpie2020 Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 I'm an applicant for the MLMI MPhil, received conditional offer a few weeks ago but haven't heard about interview - not sure what panel my degree is categorized in though (perhaps physical sciences?)
Red_Ranger Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 They definitely are not notifying by panel nor are they notifying by Mphil/PhD. So, I assume we are on a waitlist or they are sending them out in batches. I just relooked at their website and it says that "all applicants notified ----- December 20, 2019"
Jillybean06 Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 This might be silly, but my potential supervisor emailed me and told me I wasn’t nominated for Gates but am being considered for other funding (hence my earlier post). However, I haven’t gotten a Gates rejection email. Wonder why?
aliceoutofwonderland Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 @Jillybean06 weird! I figured it was a waitlist situation but that makes me a little less certain - I know I was nominated by my department. Looking back on old threads it seems like the interview offers are all sent out at once and then rejections trickle in through January, but no harm in being hopeful! Jillybean06 1
automatic_peas Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 Does anyone know when we will find out who is on the interview panel? Also @Red_Ranger I am an MPhil applicant, if that helps.
Red_Ranger Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 (edited) Thanks. Ya, it looks like it's not good news for those who haven't gotten anything. Does anyone know if anybody actually got a Gates rejection email? If not, I assume all those will come out on the 20th. Edited December 13, 2019 by Red_Ranger
coffeeortea Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 @Red_Ranger I think @Jillybean06 mentioned earlier in the thread that they had received a rejection email, but I could be wrong
