I was wondering the same thing. POI told me there would be an interview but nothing heard yet.

I know that each year brings a new timeline but, based on last year, I feel like we would have hear by now - especially since the application was due on December 15th. At this point, I don't know if one of us should reach out to the school to see if they will be hosting interviews again this year or what. Any thoughts?

I would just wait. The application season is very long and this early not a single program has released decisions - most programs are not even in session yet. So sit tight and wait even though it's hard.

Thank you for your feedback. Everyone I've talked to about this (including professors who have served on AdComms) has given me mixed opinions on how to proceed. Its been confusing but its still nice to get feedback.

Oh no problem. Wait so professors have told you it might be a good idea to inquire the admission committee and ask if they are doing interviews this year? The reason why I advice against it is 1. that it is so early in the process, and 2. because Adcoms are processing hundreds of applications and are therefore incredibly busy. It is hard for me to see why someone would encourage you to contact them.

I know what it is like to refresh my email every 5 seconds to see if there is an update but the best thing you can do is - in my experience - to stay busy and try to focus on other things. One exception is if you have a notable update to your application - such as new grades, an accepted journal article, an award, or something like that. Or maybe if you haven't heard anything after results have been released it may be worth it to get in touch. Otherwise I would not.

I do have to say that it looks like you have applied to a good mix of schools so I am sure it will go well for you. Good luck @DanTheGrad!

Hey @Theory007

They didn't say to reach out to any one on AdComms directly but to reach out to the graduate program assistant with any questions we have on admissions. Most, if not all programs, will answer general questions on their admissions procedure as every school is different. Sorry if I caused any confusion for anyone!

And yeah, This is my second cycle and I am still anxious. My partner (Neuroscience Ph.D. Applicant) has already received invitations to interview at three different schools. That makes it hard to disconnect from our applications since this will define the next 5-6 years of our lives and our relationship. Not to mention that with covid, I am working from home which means my email is constantly open. ?

Again, thanks for offering some feedback on how you think I should proceed. I think I will take a beat for a few more days and see what happens. At the end of the day - No news is good news!

Ah no problem. Contacting the program assistant cannot hurt imo. I totally understand what you are saying and going through. Hang in there - you will do great!

Has anyone been asked to have an interview except University of Washington and Ohio State University?

Nothing on my end. Trust me - I'll post if I hear back from any school.

Thanks! I think the cycle in this year is slower than the last year.

Finally done with all 8 of my applications, with FIU being the last one. Now the Long Wait begins for me.

Hope everyone here is doing great!

Does anyone know how this year compares to last year in regards to applicant numbers and cohort sizes? Things were a bloodbath last year and pushed me into an MA program in Europe (which is great don’t get me wrong, just not what I was planning)

Did Ohio State interview applicants already/does it usually?

I haven’t heard anything about this year. I was accepted last year without being interviewed though.

So, just to double check - No one on this thread has heard anything from any of their school yet? Other than UofWash?

Sorry - I noticed that someone had posted potentially hearing from Ohio on the results page and just assumed that it was positive. I noticed that it's one of your schools, so I'm sorry for any anxiety it may have caused haha!

Oh yeah no worries! I didn't take much stock in that post on the results page.

For those of you waiting for the results, last year, I used this website to have an idea on when to expect results from some of the more popular schools. https://martindevaux.com/2020/11/political-science-phd-admission-decisions/  (I don't think they have added 2021 results yet, though.)

I can add 2021 next weekend if y'all think it'd be helpful!

Any one here in the forum could claim the interview by Duke?

fwiw, looking at past results, it's unlikely anyone has heard from Duke yet, nor been invited to an interview for that matter, which Duke does not seem to do. (But I'm happy to be wrong)
