I'm not really sure how good of an indicator it is for when admission results will go out, but I was messing about on the university of Michigan website and found this message in my financial aid section of the Wolverine access,

Welcome to the University of Michigan Financial Planning Calculators for:

Entering students, check back after February 14. Continuing students may check after May15.

Any one have some inside insight?

Before the first round of notifications went out for UIUC and Northwestern I was making substantial progress on the last chapter of my thesis, now my level of productivity has completely collapsed. I've just been reduced to sitting around, refreshing my browser, and wildly speculating in the absence of solid evidence. I would just like to hear something.

Incidentally, I've heard through back-channels that the European caucus at Rutgers met late last week to discuss applications.

Any word on the American side of things?

I was not implying that it is related to acceptance verses rejection, just the possible date of decisions / notification.

Generally around the 20th or so.

Was just wait-listed at UIUC.

Any word on the American side of things?

I'll see what I can find out.

Those of you who have heard from Northwestern: did you receive an email directing you to the site, or did you just happen to check? If there will be a notification when a decision is reached, there isn't any point to me checking the application website every 20 minutes.

I didn't receive an email. I just went there and checked. The decision seemed to go up just after midnight on Sunday for me and others. So, perhaps that's a good time to check?

Good luck!

I just randomly checked the application page. I still haven't received an email telling me to check my status.

As I sit here refreshing my email hoping to hear from Yale, I received an email from the DGS at Penn inviting me to visit the campus on Friday, Feb 25th. There will be lunch, meet and greet with profs, and then dinner with grad students. Anyone else get this email? Also-- here is the rub. I'm a Sabbath-observant Jew, and sundown on Friday is about 5 PM. If I went for even part of the day I'd need to stay there until Saturday night. As I've visited the school and met with the profs with whom I applied to work, is it terrible to decline the visit? I'd of course still express my interest, and be available for phone meetings (mentioned in the email for those unable to visit.) What do y'all think?

I'm sure they would be very understanding, especially at a Jew-heavy place like Penn.

Hahaha. I remember this from 3 years ago in 2008! Thankfully I had a very tough BA thesis adviser who pretty much pulled my ear to keep moving with my thesis regardless of what goes on with grad school admissions. She was anxious as well but she just wasn't going to let it get in the way!

And that's precisely why I wanted to finish the full draft of my MA thesis last December (2009) so I would just be sitting on drafts that needed to be edit while I was waiting.

Now... I have nothing.

And historyhopeful, I will pretty much expect that you're not going to be the ONLY Jew needing to make this request. Tell them that you'd like to come but you observe Shabbat.

I got the same email. My understanding is this is close to an acceptance. Assuming nothing goes wrong when you meet with potential supervisors, it's clear sailing.

Out of curiosity, are the two people here who were invited for Penn European Hist. applicants, and do they do American separate from European? I was pretty much automatically considering myself rejected there anyway, but I'd like to know if I should go ahead and interpret that as semi-official.

And the only thing I saw on Indiana was an Art History post on the results page. Art History is usually a separate department from History.

Indiana is my top choice now that Duke sent out the sad rejections. So I'm officially getting nothing done. :)

It's my number 2. Maybe they'll let a couple of us in. That'd be nice. When I saw the results page today with Wisconsin and Indiana I refreshed my e-mail for about an hour straight but then decided to call it a day. Hopefully the rest of us will get something from them this week.

Someone earlier today posted an American History acceptance. Which is still not European History, but closer!
