Also, just got a rejection from UChicago, which I was kinda expecting so not too crushed about it. I applied to the Phil track. It was just a generic email to check the portal and then a generic rejection on the portal.

Nothing from Cornell (I’m getting crazy) and nothing from Yale for me (but I have no hopes for Yale)

I’m getting very impatient, as they usually released the decisions by the end of January before…

They told me that they hoped to make decisions by the end of January... maybe they might realease it today? Let's hope for it. Anyways, fingers crossed for both of us!

You don't happen to know anything the Brown History department, do you? I interviewed there in December, and since that crickets. No worries if not, but figured it was worth a shot!

No I don't know anything about history's app process. So sorry!

So I know this thread is mainly for PhD programs but generally when do MA programs in the US tell applicants about admission/interviews/visits? Am I right to think mid-February is a very active time?

@voxanonyma

I think that’s right, although I’ve head back from a couple schools already (two whose deadlines were December 15 and which was January 1). Still waiting on a couple others.

Edit: I’m trying to reply to voxanonyma but don’t know how

Looks like you click the button 'Quote' below the post you want to reply to.

The only MA program I applied to that had a 15DEC deadline is the one at Michigan, which I've yet to hear from. For 01JAN that would be Chicago (edit: incorrect, actually 04JAN), though I didn't apply this year, only deferring my acceptance from last year as a reserve option.

Individual email from DGS at Maryland saying they will review applications next Friday, 09FEB, then inform applicants about decisions soon after. Didn't expect them to reach out about the actual date they review applications; I think it's a nice touch.

Well, I received another one of these from another institution today. Is it normal to receive such emails as a courtesy, about when the committee reviews applications? I applied for MAs last year and never received any such emails, including from the exact same programs. I may be reading into every crumb of info too much, admittedly. The joys of the wait!

Just to soothe my anxiety - does no reply for a long time after an interview mean you're rejected? Do programs usually notify accepted candidates by mail prior to publishing the decision on the application portal?

It's so variable. Most schools notify by email or phone call when it's good news, but plenty of schools won't. Sometimes one POI will informally update and another POI at the same school won't (hence you might see an acceptance on here, but that does not automatically mean rejection.)

I think it always takes 3-5 weeks after an interview to hear, and even then it could be longer without it being a rejection.

Moral of the story waiting sucks but it's impossible to guess accepted/rejected until you're looking at a decision itself.

Best of luck! Stay sane!

Did anyone apply to University of Cincinnati? I saw an interview on the results page. Did anyone else get an interview yet?

I applied but haven't heard back from them yet.

Has anyone been admitted off the waitlist? How often does that happen? How many people are usually waitlisted if there’s only two spots?

Hey - I can tell you what my supervisor and few of my friends who went to USA told me.

Yes! Waitlists are realistic. They are usually small, and being waitlisted means they want you, but due to a number of factors, they can’t admit you right away.

Sometimes, it happens that no people from waitlist get in, because everyone accepts, but I know 5 people who got in from it. Like everything else with admissions, its Russian roulette. If its any help - a friend of my got waitlisted last week, abd admitted this week.

BTW, which program is this?

This actually eases my anxiety a bit. I was hoping to have a final answer by now so I could breathe!

I got an email today from the department saying I’m on the waitlist at UPenn. They usually (in past years) only admit two students per program/per concentration so I assume they can’t have a tone of people of the waitlist because there are not a ton of spots to begin with. I wish I knew how many were waitlisted or where I ranked on the list. My heart can’t take the suspense much longer. 😅

Just to let people know that I didn't get into Cornell, unfortunately - they didn't release the results, but I emailed the DGS asking about the timeline and he told me that I didn't get in. Well, that happens hahah good luck for the rest who applied!!

Is anyone going to the prospective student’s day at UT Austin next week? Or at Stanford the week after? Looking forward to them but certainly nervous about the experiences!
