Although I think my research proposal is good, but based on my impression, I am not going to score very high for the SSHRC system. I applied SSHRC doctoral scholarships and didn’t even pass the faculty level of evaluations. Based on my impression, the chances of winning this scholarship are higher for those who had succeeded in SSHRC doctoral level scholarships with many publications. I know everyone is patiently waiting for the results these days, and I have to be honest that my application this time will determine whether I stay in Canada or go back to my home country. Saying I have no expectations is just untrue, but based on my years of experiences living and studying in Canada, I am really not confident (disappointed to be honest). I am not having much luck here in my studies and I hope people in my field have better learning experiences. We all know the hot research topics are having the highest chances. And this is very much the last chance that I have here in Canada. Last year, I was determined to apply this scholarship many times, but I am not that ambitious now. Wishing you all the best and keep going for the research you love and care. Sleep well too. Hopping on here to say that, although SSHRC does look at things like publications and previous SSHRC awards, those are not prerequisites and, at least in theory, reviewers should be assessing each application more holistically. Reviewers do vary, and the more cynical ones may attempt to use quantity of publications as an "easy" way to assess an application without much further thought – but a strong, compelling proposal should still get their attention and, if you have good reviewers, their fair consideration. ...still stressing about my own application, of course! Since finishing my doctorate I took a position as a research grants officer in a small university, where I review and submit professors' SSHRC applications. This job has given me two great insights: 1) even tenured, exceptionally well-published, previous SSHRC awardee professors strike out with SSHRC reviewers all the time, and 2) SSHRC doesn't tell research offices anything useful, so even from my semi-insider perspective I have no clue when we'll hear about this.😅 ArkyBarky 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I think you can as long as it fits within the dates they say you can start. So if you said September then the latest you can defer without exceptional circumstances is January 2025. Score of 15.61/18, last application recommended for funding in my committee was 13.55. Just as data points for future folks, I previously held CGS-M, OGS, and CGS-D (with Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplement). Not a ton of traditional publications, but a strong portfolio of research-creation/performances. msfinley Posted February 29 Share Posted February 29 Hi everyone, I got the email 10 mins ago. I was asleep and my phone’s email notification sound woke me up. But anyway, I was funded!!!! Committee 3, total score 16.05/18, score of the last application 14.01. Data for those interested: I had applied for a CIHR postdoc last year and a SSHRC postdoc the year prior and wasn’t funded either time. In my PhD, I held a Vanier, and in my Master’s I held a SSHRC. I’ve been working as a postdoc on a large SSHRC-funded project for a year now. Not a huge amount of publications (one book chapter, seven journal articles, and an additional four articles under review at the time of submission), though I do have a book being published with a large Canadian publisher, not sure if that helped. The PDF of the results was posted 16 hours ago and it is not a success for me. AWD Posted February 29 Share Posted February 29 I did not receive any email notification and I was curious to use the forget password function on the SSHRC Extranet for Applicants page. I have never registered the SSHRC Extranet account and when I "found" my password, the result PDF was there, posted 16 hours ago with a folder that has a selection procedure and results letter in. In my case, I had an account from when I applied two years ago, and that password was still valid. Is there any chance they have a different email on file for you to log in with? Hoping enough people drop so they can offer it to me but that’s a long shot! lol For those of you that can’t access the site, have you tried the forgot password button? I did that and got access. According to the page, the results will be only saved for 90 days. What if there’s someone who didn’t know how to “find” their results? Wrapping up the PhD now, had one article and one book chapter both forthcoming, and one article submitted, and that's about it! bookmouse Posted February 29 Share Posted February 29 No luck this year. I scored 13.55 for Committee 1, and was told the "Score of the last application recommended for funding: 13.55." So this is frustrating, as I tied to receive funding, but they gave it to the other person(s) who had the same score as me. The letter also said I was recommended for funding, but not enough funds to give out. For those interested, I received a 4-year SSHRC for PhD, two book chapters, and one article (all peer-reviewed). Has anyone heard about someone receiving funding after the initial rejection in a situation like this? I have a quick question: I noticed on last year's forum page people said they were told their "rank" (meaning, out of the number of applicants in their committee #). Can anyone see that on their results this year? I cannot, and am wondering why they have removed this, as it would give me a bit of clarity on my chances of getting someone's declined funding. I'm funded from Committee 5 for a proposal hosted at a foreign institution. My score: 15.49 / 18 There were 78 applications to the committee, 17 were funded, 61 were not. The score of the last application recommended for funding was 14.00. My profile at the time of application was ABD (last year of program), 4 year SSHRC doctoral fellowship, 4 journal articles, one book chapter, and 20 conference presentations. My husband scored in the mid 15s as well and the letter says his application was recommended for funding, but there weren't enough funds available. The last application funded scored 15.07/18. I interpreted this as they recommended more applications for funding than they had funding for. So the 15.07/18 represents the "lowest" score of someone recommended for funding, but the person who scored 15.07 also didn't actually get the funding. Anyone know if this interpretation is correct? Yeah so I think for some reason the information on this years results is different (at least that's what it seems like, this is my first time). From what I can tell, it used to include the last application score that was funded. But now it seems to include the last application score that was recommended, which I take to be very different. All to find out I didn't get it I scored 14.83/18, in Committee 3. Last score recommended for funding 14.01. 17/78 fellowships offered. This seems low compared to data from previous years, I guess that's to be expected given the state of things, though. Happy to all of you who got it! Score of the last app recommended for funding was 14. My profile: ABD, 3 articles, 1 book chapter, 10 conference papers, 7 public facing/community oriented publications. To those who didn't get it - it's a crap shoot, and a lot of luck.
