Chris83 Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 I, as I usually am wont to do, spoke to soon. I just got an offer for funding at the master's level. I'm completely blown away, I thought it was impossible. It's for less than 14k a year, which is not much for Seattle, but still, I'm thrilled. Congrats! Question-- did you get the funding info by mail (a second letter) or by e-mail? So far I've gotten the first letter, a letter from grad admissions, and a packet from registrar's but nothing related to funding.

So far I've gotten the first letter, a letter from grad admissions, and a packet from registrar's but nothing related to funding. I got letters by mail generically accepting me last week, as well as the registrar's stuff this weekend, and then I got the informal email today about funding. They said there was still info on its way via postal mail. I still haven't gotten that, I only just got the email. It seems like they send a lot of stuff, and separately at that.
apieceofroastbeef Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Bleeeh. Nothing today from UW. I'm waiting on just two schools (UConn and UW)-- should I call? I don't want to bother these programs, but I have a great offer from a school that I'm visiting on the 25th and I'd like to be able to tell them that I'll be accepting, if I can.

woolfie Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Congratulations. Are you accepting the offer? Probably, I'm going to plan a visit first though before I make a decision. I still have a few schools to hear from.
apieceofroastbeef Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 I cracked and called today and got the same line about "decisions going out daily" but also got that it should take "a few weeks." WHAT WEEKS? April 15th UW! APRIL 15th!
Germaine123 Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Bah! Bah! seconded. Does anyone know anything about how their waiting list works?
lyonessrampant Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 For the people posting funding, is the 14k for a TAship?
woolfie Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 For the people posting funding, is the 14k for a TAship? Yes.
lyonessrampant Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Cool. Thanks! Congrats again. Has anyone heard about fellowships?
emichelle Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Any current Washington grad students out there? If so, I would love it if someone could PM me (I received an offer there and have a few questions). Thanks.
lyonessrampant Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Got my rejection email. Really relieved just to know. Not a good fit. There's really only one person sort of doing research that fits my work. Applied more for the location. Good luck to everyone waiting and accepted!

Would you contact them now if you were me RE funding? I was notified of acceptance (PhD) on Saturday.
Rhet Man Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Sorry to hear it, Lyon and Germaine: Both of you have been wonderful to dialogue with, and I hope your academic path is a frutiful one (in case we don't chat much from here on in).
lyonessrampant Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Hey, Rhet Man! Good luck to you as well. I hope you like UW!
Germaine123 Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Hey, Rhet Man! Good luck to you as well. I hope you like UW! Seconded. This UW thread has surely been epic!
thestranger009 Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Would you contact them now if you were me RE funding? I was notified of acceptance (PhD) on Saturday. I sent the DGS a note with some questions, and he replied quickly and was very nice. I wouldn't worry, if there are things you want to know, then just ask . . .they understand that we all have decisions to make. PM me if you have any other questions . . .
apieceofroastbeef Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Am I the only one w/o a decision? Nope. I haven't heard either! And I'd really like some closure at this point.

I am probably going to let it go until after St. Patty's (a very special day of the year for my tacky family) and will then take your advice. I'm actually not facing a decision at the moment, not really...Washington's my only acceptance at this point. If I'm in off the wait-list to Carnegie Mellon or Michigan State, then I'll have to do some quick research. I'm just in suspense.
rubyrunner Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Am I the only one w/o a decision? I'm still waiting. I'm not really expecting to get in, but hoping...I grew up in Seattle! I expect to be one of the last ones to hear, since my MA transcripts arrived ridiculously late.

Same for me--my materials were late (damn you Royal Mail!), so I'm not surprised I'll be in the final group to hear.
BillyPilgrim Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 I called and got some info. 40-50 applications still remain for 10-15 spots
