Awarded a PGS-D! Does anyone know if we who receive a PGS-D this year are locked into that monetary value for the following three years, or will we experience a boost following the federal budget increase?

Question: Submitted 2 nserc applications (on accident). The issue with the first one was that I didn't send it to my institution, I sent it directly to nserc. After working with my grad coordinator, we were able to send in a second one properly. Does anyone know if I will get two results or just one? I should point out that someone from nserc had reached out to me letting me know that the first submission will be rejected. So I'm wondering if I will get two letters.

Congrats on the award! There was talk earlier in this thread that the amount will likely go up next year if the budget increase is ratified. I don't think there has been an official announcement yet.

Thanks! Agreed, it's likely a huge grey area right now, so we will all just have to wait and see.

Many congratulations to all who won the scholarship!

Is there a way one can know the rank of their application ?

They used to release them with the results but stopped a few years ago. I heard of someone two years ago emailed NSERC asking their rank a few months after results came out and they told them

I am wondering if the NSERC results are final. Is there's a chance more people will be awarded the scholarship as more funding becomes available, or will all of this come into affect next year?

The prime ministers announcement (https://www.pm.gc.ca/en/news/news-releases/2024/04/19/strengthening-canadian-research-and-innovation) read: " $825 million over five years to the granting councils to increase the annual value of master’s and doctoral students’ scholarships to $27,000 and $40,000, respectively, and post-doctoral fellowships to $70,000. To make it easier for students and fellows to access support, the enhanced suite of scholarships and fellowship programs will be streamlined into one talent program. This new program will also increase the number of graduate students and post-doctoral fellows benefiting from research scholarships and fellowships by approximately 1,720 each year."

Also has there been any historical precedent of people getting an award because they moved-up in the rankings due to Vanier recipients declining CGS-D awards ?

Congrats to those who won an award! I received my offer last night. Just wondering if the increases announced last week will take into effect starting May or September?

I don't think anyone knows how it'll work as of right now. We have to wait to see how they plan to roll this out.

This is the bargaining stage of the five stages of grief…..don’t worry I’m there too right now

serious answer, historically there’s a waitlist, and the letter for people on the waitlist would say something like “while your application was considered meritorious, it was not funded due to budgetary constraints. Should more funds become available…”. I haven’t heard of anyone being told they’re on a waitlist

Is anyone experiencing difficulties uploading their signed installment request form to the NSERC site? I can't appear to find the link for upload.

I've not done it yet, but I just got an email from NSERC with a link and instructions. They sent it after I sent an email confirming I am accepting the award at a given start date.

I've received the link too but when I click on the "NSERC’s form and supporting documentation submission site" in the email, there is no link to upload the signed document. So weird.

Hmm, yeah I just went into the link and this is what comes up "Click the link below to upload your documents

There are no items to show in this view of the "Funding Opportunities" list."

Edit: I emailed them and they responded right away with "You will receive instructions on how to access your SharePoint upload folder by tomorrow. Please note that your instalment form must be signed by an institutional representative."

I added their reply in my edit. They said we'll get the info by tomorrow and our institution needs to sign the form before we submit.

I am seriously wondering about the updated funding in the federal budget. To the point that I would consider turning down PGS-D and trying again next year for CGS-D. But I'm not sure if that is a smart gamble.

Does NSERC normally reply back confirming that they've received your offer acceptance via email? I requested for my award to start Sep 1st, but haven't heard back from them/only got an automated reply.

They replied back within 24h when I sent an email with a request for May 1st. They may be more focused on the spring ones now.

I got a response after just over an hour. But I also have a May 1st start date, and since they need to open up your secure drop folder for submitting the financial work, I would also assume they are probably prioritizing based on those May start dates.

Thank you both!! I just got a reply this morning (~20 hours to respond), you guys are right they're probably prioritizing the May 1st start date!
