Tried to mostly choose reasonable mid-upper-tier places with a couple calculated reaches. Because people put their private information there, sometimes including their legal names, with the idea that it would stay within the closed Facebook Draft group, among members with a common understanding. Not surprisingly as much as I dislike Facebook, I forced myself to make a new account to find out what the hoopla is all about. I found the '25 group but the '26 group I'm still pending on. Today as I was visiting the Getty Villa I met a dude who is a Ph.D. in English literature at U of Nevada in Reno who was rejected twice from the Ph.D. creative writing program at USC :o... Is that ominous for me then? Fates beckon me with the Furies.

It seems like a program I would love and is in a great location for me, but I haven't seen a ton of people talking about it! If anyone knows anything or has any input, I would love to know. Thanks!

I applied to these: Stanford Stegner Fellowship, Johns Hopkins, WashU St. Louis, Vanderbilt, Brown, UVA, Temple, UMass Boston, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, and VCU. Anyone else? It seems quiet in the forum, but it's my first time applying, so let's ramp it up or start a writing group to keep us sane while waiting for results. P.S. I also like the spirit of planning a trip -- Italy? SocialKonstruct 1

I applied to only a handful of programs and know there's a very good chance I'll get into none of them, but I'm sure it'll be a whole different ballgame if/when the reality hits. Just trying to keep my mind off it until decisions start coming out! gafoo 1
molemola Posted January 10 Posted January 10 I'm so glad the rejection trip is resonating with people! This is how I have processed all my major life disappointments. Road trips are especially good for this, though I think it might not be wise to just... drive through America at the moment.

I don't use social media in the first place (this account was the exception, if we count this site as social media in the first place), and I usually try to disengage with this sort of process, since it feels like I could be doing anything else with my time other than worrying about results that are now out of my hands. After finishing the story I submitted for applications, I’ve felt pretty depleted creativity-wise. Hoping I land on a story idea that excites me soon so I can really distract myself from app outcomes!

Interestingly enough I am working hard on completing one of my manuscripts for a new novel (ugh, got 3 novels completed already during the past 20 years but unpublished) and then I have like maybe 3-4 books else in progress atm.
