SIPA (Columbia) Thread

IMPORTANT!!!!! DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS!?!?!? It's posted in the Results section and coming from a person who applied to the MPA-DP program.

Accepted. March 10. This response was really weird!!! I received a rejection from SIPA and 1 hour later, I received an urgent message from Matt Clemons apologizying and offering me admission. He wrote that there had been serious technical problems and many students who received rejections were actually accepted!!!

Really??? So if I got a rejection yesterday for the MPA in DP maybe it was a mistake??? Please tell me!!!!!

If this did indeed happen, I'm sure they're going through and double-checking for similar errors. Worth looking into to be extra sure, but I wouldn't get my hopes too high up.

Wow - SIPA Admissions really knows how to amp up the drama!

I assume that since you and I have not yet gotten such e-mails (and Matt C. has not blogged about these "tech difficulties" either), we should not hope for a change in our admissions status. I am sure that they have figured it out by now and contacted the people who were actually given "wrong" info.

Errrm....That's interesting! I just hope the vice versa is not true for people like me who have been accepted! tongue.gif

The latest from the admissions blog. So now we are up to 75% complete. Still nothing for me yet...

I know there are still many applicants anxious to receive an admission decision and the Admissions Committee is moving steadily along. The first big “burst” of decisions that were sent (approximately 65% were sent out last Monday) represented hundreds of hours of review. Even with over 7 weeks of meetings the Committee still needs additional time to complete the process. As I have stated before, a lot of this has to do with the simple act of scheduling. Getting Committee members together is a task in itself.

Since Monday of this week we have sent out another 10% of decisions so we have crept up to the 75% mark. We are still deliberating on all three classes of admission offers: admit, waitlist, and those we will be unable to offer admission to.

I’ll keep this entry short so I can get back to the file review process . . .

Finally posting after lurking on the boards for so long just to say... I hate waiting!! I'm glad I'm not the only one waiting though.

Wow, you applied to 11 schools? That's intense.

Another longtime lurker here.

Here's my question: of those who have yet to hear from SIPA, when did you submit your application? I didn't finalize mine until the day of the deadline, January 5th... I wonder if that has anything to do with our long wait? If they're reviewing apps in the order they arrived, that could explain why I haven't heard anything. I've gotten responses from all my other programs except SIPA (I applied for MIA, by the way), so, like everyone else, the wait is killing me.

Passat 1, you might be in the group that will get funding. I applied to MIA and submitted my application 2 mins to the deadline  I was part of the first wave of admitted students but I did not get any funds  . Good luck and I hope get good news soon

Hmmm, OK. So much for my theory!

I sure hope that I get funding, but considering the fact that I'm applying straight out of undergrad, I doubt it... but who know? Crazier things have happened.

I still haven't heard anything and I don't know if I'm going to survive the weekend either =(

Since I applied for a full ride fellowship specific for people of country I still have hopes that this is the reason they are taking so much time with my application. For me it's all or nothing.....

Good luck to you all trying to control anxiety!!

Did anybody receive funding yet? Does anybody have an idea how many (percent) are currently being considered for financial aid?

And, last question, does anybody know whether everybody that is 'considered' for financial aid will be accepted?

Please help me!

Please help me!

1) Did anyone receive funding yet? Not on this board (or the results page), and not to my knowledge.

2) Does anybody have an idea how many (percent) are currently being considered for financial aid? Only the people working at SIPA Admissions

3) Does anybody know whether everybody that is 'considered' for financial aid will be accepted? I think it's safe to say that everyone accepted was/will be considered for financial aid, but I don't think that's what you want to know. Let's say that there are only 2 categories left of applications at the admissions office 1) people being considered for fellowship (and likely the top 15% of applicants as determined by the adcom (if fellowships are need blind - not sure about this)), and 2) people who the adcom still needs to discuss again.

I don't think anyone outside of the admissions office knows if there is any overlap between the two categories. But if the people being considered for fellowship really are the top 15%, there probably isn't a lot of overlap. If that's the case, then it seems logical to me that the 15% who are currently being considered for fellowship will most likely receive admits. But I don't think there is any way to know if your application is in category 1 or 2, so that might not help much.

I totally agree with your opinion.....there's no way to know in which group you are, so that information does not help too much....
