stanxv Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Now that NSERC is out of the way, please post any news you may have about your OGS results. Results should be available around the 15th of April, but has anyone's status changed early?
Poppet Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 So jealous that "NSERC is out of the way." I'm going crazy waiting for the SSHRC results, and they apparently aren't going to be out for a while. No change in OGS... And I really don't expect one until sometime after the 15th. Usually when the government has a deadline they wait until at least that deadline to produce the results.
stanxv Posted April 1, 2011 Author Posted April 1, 2011 Yes, I remember last year's results were quite late. We probably won't hear anything until early May. Darn....
n31290 Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Waiting... I know the SSHRC Master's results will take ages, so I'm hoping for OGS news sooner to tide me over!
ajesusj Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 Last year most recipients got the notice update on the website after midnight on April 15th (the night of the 14th, morning of the 15th).
mademoisellemiss Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 I am curious: Have any of you help OGS or SSHRC and worked (outside of your uni TA hours) at the same time? They say that there is a limit on the hours worked, but is this monitored, or is holding an outside job also possible? Thanks for your insights!!
bios Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Just an update: the OGS "status update" tab has had the words "please check back in April 2011" changed to "please check back in early May 2011".

You're right. This was also updated under the individual status updates: 'Information on the results of the competition will be available in early May 2011. Please check back after this date.' Darn...

Droid Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Lovely... lovely lovely lovely ( I am wrong or this quote is from "Planes, trains and automobiles" with Steve Martin and John Candy?)
cc05cs Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 (edited) Why are they making us wait until May now?! Im so impatient waiting for information on whether or not I can go back to school in May. Will they send out letters that we will get before its made public online? And if it isnt going to be known until May, can i still start my Masters in May in hopes that I will get the scholarship?? Edited April 14, 2011 by cc05cs
stanvx Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 They could be low on reviewers. Due to funding cuts, it could be taking them longer than usual to sort through all of the applications. Last year, it also took them longer than usual to release the results. Why are they making us wait until May now?! jahmal Posted April 16, 2011 Posted April 16, 2011 Could be the fact that there are 3,000 awards this year (2,000 last year).
YuleWalker Posted April 16, 2011 Posted April 16, 2011 3,000 awards for OGS? Do you know about the expected proportion of recipients in different disciplines? Could be the fact that there are 3,000 awards this year (2,000 last year).
Rock Lobster Posted April 16, 2011 Posted April 16, 2011 I'm going for my MA at Carleton and received a really nice funding package (scholarships and TAship). I was wondering if it was possible to hold OGS, SSHRC, and university scholarship/ TAship? I know there are certain restrictions on additional scholarships for OGS, but does that include SSHRC or TAship? I know this is dreaming REAL BIG, but I am just curious how all the funding works together.

I held an OGS, a TAship, tuition funding and a departmental scholarship all at once. Alas, not all schools are so generous! Here at York, you have to sacrifice some of your internal funding if you hold an external scholarship.
pomodoro Posted April 16, 2011 Posted April 16, 2011 yes, can someone substantiate this? 3,000 awards instead of 2,000 would certainly change things quite a bit! 3,000 awards for OGS? Do you know about the expected proportion of recipients in different disciplines?
linggirl Posted April 16, 2011 Posted April 16, 2011 Yes. I heard the same thing. A 50% increase in awards this year.

I wish I knew OGS/ SSHRC results though...
jahmal Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 yes, can someone substantiate this? 3,000 awards instead of 2,000 would certainly change things quite a bit! New graduate scholarships The government will award an additional 1,000 students with an Ontario Graduate Scholarship starting next year. This will increase the number of Ontario graduates receiving the award from 2,000 to 3,000 students. http://www.tcu.gov.on.ca/eng/postsecondary/osap.html Itshardtosay and wantingthatsshrc 2
YuleWalker Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 thanks jahmal for the link does anyone hear about the distribution (master vs. phd, international vs. domestic, physical science vs. social science) for the award?

Thus, they are awarding the additional 1000 scholarships for this round (i.e. 2011-2012). Hurray!!
AMHF Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 I think you can hold scholarships and TA ships from the university and either OGS OR SSHRC, but you can't accept both OGS and SSHRC.
n31290 Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 (edited) Question (if anyone has an answer) about $10k award for 2 terms and $15k award for 3 terms - if I am awarded the OGS and I start school in September, and I am studying full time for 2 terms from Sept to April, and summer may be part-time with a required internship course - does that mean I'd qualify for the $10k scholarship? For most Grad programs, You'll automatically get the 15k award.. Even if you're not taking classes in the summer, as long as you're still enrolled (e.g. working on your thesis, etc)
