schwag Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Chicago acceptances and waitlists are predominantly theorists, it seems... Any of the admits or waitlists from different subfields?
RWBG Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 That's awesome, congrats! And yea, I'm hoping that my really strong recs, sop and a peer reviewed article during my MA this year will help me out! Particularly from now on (only heard from one and it was a duke rejection). Thoughts? And Well, I was also rejected by Duke, so maybe they're particularly grade-focused! In any event, I suspect it is entirely possible that all those factors will make your application competitive. Best of luck!
Impertinent Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Congratulations to the Chicago and Berkeley admits! Coming out of lurk mode to join the rest of you in hyperventilating over the Chicago notifications.
kolja00 Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 (edited) I was waitlisted by U of C and I am IR. I go there for undergrad and was told that there werent many IR admits by a professor. Edited February 7, 2012 by kolja00
Green_Bee Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Chicago acceptances and waitlists are predominantly theorists, it seems... Any of the admits or waitlists from different subfields? I'm a theorist, wait-listed by Chicago this morning, though, for some background, my circumstances are unusual since I did both my BA and MA (through MAPSS) at the U of C.
wmplax Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Hi everyone! I've been following this thread for the past 2 weeks but this is my first post. My husband is the one who got the Berkeley accept. The email came in last night at 9pm California time. He didn't see it until this morning. Funding info to follow by early March and their campus visit days are March 18-19. We are super excited!!!! What kind of theory does your husband work in?

balledematch Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 I was waitlisted by U of C and I am IR. I go there for undergrad and was told that there werent many IR admits by a professor. Shit, well looks like I'm out then
Green_Bee Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 And what kind of theory do you pursue? Officially: democratic theory and critical race theory...though I've dipped my toes in just about everything after a very liberal arts heavy undergrad experience
grantman Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Congrats to all of those who were admitted or waitlisted at the University of Chicago, that is an impressive feat regardless, best of luck!
shavasana Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Looks like a bunch of Chicago acceptances/waitlists have been posted. Anyone know if they are all theory? Starting to freak out I wonder if the "U" on the results survey that indicates international with American degree is actually the union symbol... And I'd appreciate any data on whether the Chicago people are all theorists, as mentioned above. I'm claiming one of the IR admits for Chicago. Congrats to everyone who got in! Who's going to the visit weekend March 9? saltlakecity2012 1
brent09 Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Big day for a lot of people! Congrats all around!
kolja00 Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 I'm claiming one of the IR admits for Chicago. Congrats to everyone who got in! Who's going to the visit weekend March 9? Congrats! I've loved the IR people here for undergrad. They are awesome.
shavasana Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Congrats! I've loved the IR people here for undergrad. They are awesome. Still haven't heard from Duke. GRRRRRRR Thank you SO much. I'm incredibly excited. I haven't heard from Duke either...no news is, well just no news. Maybe they're still deciding? Who knows.
CafeAuLait12 Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 I haven't heard from Duke either...no news is, well just no news. Maybe they're still deciding? Who knows. Since I heard a rejection yesterday, I think no new might be good news!
saltlakecity2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Has anyone else heard anything from Berkeley (other than the one post that was claimed here, I mean)?
grantman Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Finally received my rejection from Vanderbilt, now I am 0 and 2. Again congrats to all those who recieved acceptances today, I look forward to seeing your exemplary in the near future.
brent09 Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Finally received my rejection from Vanderbilt Same boat. Uber-bummed.
grantman Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Same boat. Uber-bummed. Fortunately, you have been admitted to other programs, so at least you have the assurance that you will be going somewhere next year. Plus it is there loss, not yours.
PoliSci27 Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Same boat. Uber-bummed. I shall join you both.
iwouldpreferanonymity Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Fortunately, you have been admitted to other programs, so at least you have the assurance that you will be going somewhere next year. Plus it is there loss, not yours. grantman, you should remain confident that acceptances are waiting for you in the near future. I cannot say much about many of the schools to which you have applied, but as a someone who has spent 10 of his last 13 years in the Denver area, I will personally protest at DU if they do not admit you. As for Vanderbilt - it seems that they will miss out on many good political scientists. whirlibird 1
catchermiscount Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 I'd say the letters you get from grad school are of more help than your grad school grades, which typically are somewhat uninformative. CooCooCachoo, kaykaykay and anxiousmike 3
wmplax Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Got my official notification, going to Stanford. I am almost embarrassed to write this though, never thought it would be me. If this cycle doesn't pan out how you want it to - try again! That's what I did! Best of luck everybody! What's your subfield and interest in said subfield?
