tupacodaman Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 can the dartmouth poster who got accepted PM me if it was an automated acceptance email or if it was specifically from your POI?
LuckyCat Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 FYI: Just posted to the SPSP listserv. I believe this professor is at University of Alabama in the event anyone has similar research interests and would like to be considered. from jchamilt@as.ua.edu via yahoo.com reply-to jchamilt@as.ua.edu to spsp-announce-l@list.cornell.edu date Tue, Mar 6, 2012 subject Social psychology doctoral training program mailing list <spsp-announce-l.cornell.edu> I have received late word that i will be allowed to offer a funded (4 yr guarantee) slot in our social psychology doctoral training program. I would like to ask your help in identifying any talented undergraduate students who are still looking for a graduate program for next year. > > The work of our research group centers on the study of excessive illness behavior (e.g., exaggerated or feigned physical symptom reporting or claims of disability, frequent unnecessary doctor visits), and particularly on the the motivational processes involved in these behaviors. We try to use self theoretic approaches to this research question, and so the theories and methods we employ are those of mainstream experimental social psychology. Even though I am a clinician, this slot is for a social psych grad student who will be fully involved in the social psychology program, as am I. There is no chance of transferring to the clinical program. > > If you know of anyone who might be interested, please encourage them to contact me directly. > > Thanks. > > jim
psychdork Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 If the poster with the rejection email from Penn State's social psychology program is around, did you contact them or was it an official email? I applied to Penn State's social program too and haven't heard a thing either way. I'm pretty sure I have been rejected, but nothing official yet.
tupacodaman Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 I have the same question, but about the Dartmouth poster. official rejection email? thanks!
6682 Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 If anyone else was accepted to the A&M Neuroscience program I would love to talk to you about it (if you're attending/or still deciding) as I make my decision as well!
crazygirl2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 On the results page, I posted that I was rejected from the Rutgers Social Psych program after emailing my POI. Someone posted after me asking who my POI was. That person's post was deleted from the results page, but if you are that person and you still want to know, PM me and I'll tell you.
ClinicalPsyPhD Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Has anyone heard from Rutgers' Clinical Psychology PhD program?
arf05093 Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 (edited) To those waiting to hear back about the U of Delaware social psych program: POI said that they have currently accepted one student to the program and are in the process of finding him/her funding. They're looking to perhaps get funding for another student or two, but they're less than optimistic. Le sigh. I was really hoping for Delaware.... Sorry, guys. Edited March 12, 2012 by arf05093
sweetnighter Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Not to be negative, but I'm on a number of waitlists, and have been told by all involved in one way or another that they're "looking to get funding for another student." I'm sure they mean well--really, I do--but I don't buy it. I honestly believe that many, if not most, programs would prefer to make offers to more people than they do, and that they would very much like to be accepting people who they've made to be first alternates on the waitlist instead. That said, if I'm on the waitlist, fine, I can handle that... but don't lead me on. You know? If I get in, great! If not, that's okay too. But don't give me false hope. Sorry if that all sounds despondent... its a tough process, and I just don't want to lie to myself, or see others do the same to themselves. That said, many waitlisters are made offers! I remain hopeful. But not too hopeful.
IOPsych87 Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Are acceptances or rejections usually sent out first? I haven't heard anything from a school I applied to that, according to the Results Survey, sent out rejection emails yesterday. Since I hadn't heard anything I had assumed rejection but now I'm just confused. Thoughts?

I haven't heard anything from a school I applied to that, according to the Results Survey, sent out rejection emails yesterday. Since I hadn't heard anything I had assumed rejection but now I'm just confused. Thoughts? I would normally equate not hearing something back by this point as a rejection. In my experience, I knew that I was going to be admitted long before I got the actual "admittance" package from the department or graduate school. Plus, through contact with my POI, I know that I have been unofficially rejected at several programs even though there hasn't been any official correspondence. Hate to be a downer but I thought I would try to give you an idea of what my experience has been.

While there's still a small chance you're on the waitlist, chances are at this point, you haven't been accepted. There are still some places I haven't heard from, but I think I've given up. Then again, last time I applied, one school didn't send me a rejection letter until October...

Since I hadn't heard anything I had assumed rejection but now I'm just confused. Thoughts? I agree with the above posters. Typically, acceptances are sent before rejections. You may still be on a waiting list, but I'd give it a few days before calling to see if you get word. Check spam folders/decision websites first.
mj53 Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 (edited) anyone heard back from Boston College?? Also still waiting on BC..... Same goes for Wake Forest's masters program. Though there was a post on the results page that someone was admitted like last week so not looking good for me Edited March 12, 2012 by mj53
sweetnighter Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 UC Davis is "making a decision" on my application. Saw on the results page that somebody else got the same email. Doesn't bode well.
pokeyoaks Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 anyone heard back from Boston College?? Not sure if you're asking in regards to their Ph.D or Master's program, but they've sent out acceptance E-mails and packages for the latter.
BlueCamel Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Not sure if you're asking in regards to their Ph.D or Master's program, but they've sent out acceptance E-mails and packages for the latter. Ph.D. program. I guess more rejections are on the way!

I haven't gotten that email, and have heard nothing from them... maybe this email is a good sign? What area did you apply to? Edited March 13, 2012 by Sshaw9
nbrown07 Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Anyone out there that hasn't heard from CU-Boulder's social program yet? I haven't gotten a rejection...but haven't gotten a waitlist email either!
sweetnighter Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 I haven't gotten that email, and have heard nothing from them... maybe this email is a good sign? What area did you apply to? Social. I don't know.... maybe, but I'm not holding my breath. At best, a waitlist notification, but I'm not even sure they waitlist at UCD.
stereopticons Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Anyone out there that hasn't heard from CU-Boulder's social program yet? I haven't gotten a rejection...but haven't gotten a waitlist email either! Did you have an interview? The social program met on Friday to make decisions and my POI emailed me that night (rejection...)
nbrown07 Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Did you have an interview? The social program met on Friday to make decisions and my POI emailed me that night (rejection...) I didn't have an interview, and I didn't get rejected, so I feel like I'm in some black hole there. Oh well - I've essentially accepted an offer elsewhere, I was just curious!
Ameonna Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 UC Davis is "making a decision" on my application. Saw on the results page that somebody else got the same email. Doesn't bode well. I got that e-mail, too. Unfortunately, I already know that I was rejected weeks ago after correspondence with one of the professors there (no interview = no admittance). I'm hoping you receive better news, though!
