bounce Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Hey everyone! I just submitted my MSW apps to the following schools: SDSU CSULB CSUN Has anyone been accepted/rejected from any of the CSU's yet? If so, how long did it take you to hear back? What method was it? (email, snail mail, etc.) And when did you submit your apps? I'm looking forward to hearing back from the schools! (hopefully before April 15th, I'll go crazy if it takes that long) Cheers and good luck to everyone, Tracey
MSW Bound Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 I received acceptance from CSUDH in early December and was placed in pending status at CSULB the week of Thanksgiving. Best to you! keeganh Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 Anyone been scheduled for an interview yet? Any contact from the schools? If so, when did you submit your application?
rjose Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 I applied to the MSW program at Cal State Long Beach and Cal State LA around mid December 2011 and haven't heard anything. I know they usually get TONS of applications, but does anyone have any idea when they'll make decisions? I've heard March/April? The wait is killing me!!!
keeganh Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 I'm in the same boat. I applied to CSUN and CSLA the first week of January and have not received a response. I did speak to an admissions person at CSUN and she told me that they have not scheduled any interviews yet and that if I made it past the first round then I could expect to be contacted for an interview in about three weeks. Keeping my fingers crossed. The wait is killing me too! Good luck!
rjose Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Wow, I didn't know the Cal State's conduct interviews! That's great to hear, hopefully I get an interview. My boyfriend's job moved him to Westlake so now I'm thinking of applying to CSUN. Does anyone know if they have rolling admissions?
keeganh Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 I don't think that all Cal State's do interviews but CSUN will selectively do them. I do not know the criteria for getting an interview rather than just getting an admission / rejection letter but the admissions person I spoke to on the phone made it sound like they do a lot of interviews. I have a friend that was admitted to CSLA and was never interviewed. I don't think CSUN does rolling admissions but check their website to be sure. Let me know if you hear anything from any of the schools and I will do the same.
KMSW Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 I applied to CSULA and CSULB as well and submitted early Dec 2011. If you applied to CSULA and submitted by the priority deadline (Dec 15) you should get a response by late march early april. If you applied after the priority deadline you should get a response by April or May. CSULB gets over 1000 applications each year. They do take a very long time to respond. A friend of mine found out he was placed on the wait list until July last year!
rjose Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Thanks Keeganh - If I hear from any of the Cal State Schools I'll be sure to let you know. KMSW - I applied to CSULA on the Dec. 15th priority deadline so I'm glad to hear that I'll hear a response by late March/early April. Yeah, I heard that CSULB gets tons and tons of applications. For CSULA, I went to their informational meeting and they said they accept only 100 - 125. Which is pretty exclusive because when I did my UPenn interview they said they were very exclusive and accept only 125 each year. I know of folks that I work with who applied to CSULA and didn't get in. I didn't realize how exclusive CSULA is.
rjose Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Good point socialworkphd. I take it from your username you are in a social work PhD program? If so, where, what year are you in, concentration, and how do you like it?
allyba Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 It sounds like the interview is a standard part of CSUN´s application procedure. I don´t think the interviews are selective for this school. When I asked they said that applicants that have been chosen to advance to the second stage of the process are contacted for an interview.
jlt427 Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 I applied to a couple of CSU MSW programs in early December including CSUN and was contacted via email for an interview in mid-January.I couldn't make it to either of the dates they gave me (not enough notice to get work off) and had to reschedule the interview for later this week. It was my understanding that the interview is a standard part of their process. Has anyone heard back from CSULB? I have no idea what their process is and have not heard anything since the confirmation email they sent me when they received my application.

And I haven't heard a peep from CSULB. Now I'm really starting to get discouraged....
mrod88 Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Hey guys! I decided to take my changes and only applied to one school- CSULB. I've only received an e-mail stating that I've been cleared w/ Enrollment services and now my application has gone to MSW Dept. for review. The wait is giving me some serious sugar cravings! Anyway, I'm not really sure how competitive CSULB's MSW program. How many people do they normally admit to the 2-yr program? I summited my application 2 days before the deadline, so not really sure if that's going to affect my changes. Is anyone in the same boat as me?

Its a very competitive program. Some of my friends who applied last year got a response by July or early Aug! YIKES! They have a wait list and a lot of students get in after they are wait listed. If I could remember correctly they admit approx 170 students? Not sure on this one. Sorry I don't have an exact number but its approx around this amount. CSULB received my application Dec 15 but they went on winter break soon after. So I'm assuming they got to my application by Jan or Feb. The waiting game is killing me but I am trying my best to be patient. I am waiting to hear from some other schools as well. Good luck!

Let's see how it goes... I'm really keeping my fingers crossed. Early August?!? That sucks! Especially for those that will need to relocate like myself (if i get in!) Thanks again and good luck!
allyba Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 (edited) What?! CSUN never called me about an interview!! And I haven't heard a peep from CSULB. Now I'm really starting to get discouraged.... Don´t stress yet. When did you turn in your application to CSUN? I turned mine in pretty late and I don´t think they have contacted everyone for interviews yet. Last year it seems some people were contacted in March or later for an interview. You could call and check with them though. I figure if I don´t hear anything from them in the next few weeks, I am going to give them a call to check. Edited February 9, 2012 by allyba
jlt427 Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 CSUN told me they are doing a couple of rounds of interviews all the way into March so there's not reason to be discouraged. I'm super anxious about CSULB. I hope it doesn't actually take all the way till July to hear back!
Hannah Kat Foster Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Hi guys! I just received my acceptance letter to CSULB at 6 pm last night! I am so excited!
bounce Posted February 13, 2012 Author Posted February 13, 2012 Hi guys! I just received my acceptance letter to CSULB at 6 pm last night! I am so excited! What?!?!?! Do you mind sharing your stats? They still need a stats syllabus from me so they said my application won't be reviewed until I get it to them this week.
rjose Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Congrats Hannah! That's great news! When did you submit your application?
KMSW Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 I just got accepted via email to CSULB!!!! The only thing that I am waiting on is to be cleared by enrollment services but Im good as in!!!
forensic2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Has anyone applied to CSU LA for the Forensic focus? I'm just curious because CSU LA is the only one that offers it so I assumed it would be competitive but haven't heard anybody mention they applied for it? Seems like most everyone is going for mental health or youth/families. Would appreciate any feedback on that program... I didn't get a chance to go the info session.
ms.msw2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 I interviewed last week for the MSW program at CSUN. After the interview they said I would hear in a few days and now they are saying by March 15. Has anyone received an acceptance??
- Eileen - Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 I applied to CSUDH, CSULA, and CSULB. I turned in my applications for all three programs mid-October. CSUDH offered admission in December and I accepted. Recently I received a rejection letter from CSULB. I haven't heard from CSULA yet. I'm really excited for CSUDH's mental health concentration. I know MSW BOUND has also accepted admission there. We will be in the same cohort. Anyone else apply to CSUDH? Cheers, Eileen
