soc13 Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Anyone heard anything from Colorado - Boulder, Emory, or Vanderbilt yet? No, but waiting on Vanderbilt too! Would love to hear either way so I can move on with life, haha... hopefully everyone will keep each other posted! Good luck!
amlobo Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Am I the only person who applied to UCSD? Is the program that bad?! I feel like I missed a memo. I applied, but it is one of my looser fits. I think they have a good program (obviously since I applied )... I've heard funding can be a bit dicey... not sure if it's true. Going Insane 1
Dea Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 I'm a fan of just waiting it out, haha. I admire your patience!
Darth.Vegan Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 I admire your patience! Having 3 funded offers, one of which is a PhD program, helps my ability to remain patient tremendously. Any other news at this point is just icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned. jms7 and elimari 1 1

Darth.Vegan Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 I don't know, but I just called them and they told me what I did (not) want to hear. This is why I don't call, so I can pretend that I am on some mysterious unofficial wait list. FertMigMort, OrangeSoc, elimari and 2 others 4 1
blogstarphd Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 @RandomDood - Thanks. I can write this down as my third rejection letter.
Eigen Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Please do not feed the trolls. Please cut out the personal attacks. After the issues this season, I'm going to be making more liberal use of the warning and suspension system. That includes people who get sucked in by trolls as well as the trolls themselves. Thread derails removed. ohgoodness and FertMigMort 2
ohgoodness Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 (edited) I don't know, but I just called them and they told me what I did (not) want to hear. Sorry to hear. This process could seriously do with some centralization and transperancy. Programs could post a short notice that they have started/finished sending out decisions et al. Would save time and energy for both sides. Edited February 11, 2013 by ohgoodness Going Insane, RandomDood and Darth.Vegan 3

I really don't understand the programs that send acceptances and wait one week to send out rejections. On the other hand, even though I got rejected by Princeton, I really appreciated the fact that they just sent out everything on the same day; it was really really relieving. Plus, what else could have justified my staying in bed in a fetal position for the entire week-end, right? Edited February 11, 2013 by RandomDood ohgoodness and LugubriousJones 2
Darth.Vegan Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 A week would be nice in some cases. Many programs take weeks or a month to send out rejections. But that's ok, it allows me to stay in my unofficial wait list bubble.

I still don't know why they don't just send out the rejections at the same as the acceptances. I've been waiting for the hammer to drop with Michigan for a week now. But that's ok, it allows me to stay in my unofficial wait list bubble. Right, like Emory invited people to recruitment week a few weeks ago. Recruitment week has passed and I still haven't gotten my rejection letter. Though I know already. If I wasn't on this board I would still think I was being considered though.
ohgoodness Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 (edited) I still don't know why they don't just send out the rejections at the same as the acceptances. I've been waiting for the hammer to drop with Michigan for a week now. The rejection after acceptances is probably due to time/work-load. Passing information to the few who were admitted takes a matter of minutes whereas adding all the rejections might take a whole lot longer. I am not sure about what kind of automated data system they have but I can understand their priorities. It would, however, be alot easier if they just put a notice on their webpage/twitter/here/in space that "yes we are finished with our decisions; all the acceptances have gone out whereas the rejections will come asap". No e-mails, no calls and then everyone could move on and be fine with it. I am pretty sure that for every new results posted here without proper info - someone calls/e-mails the programs and asks for an update. Edited February 11, 2013 by ohgoodness
gensexhopeful Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 I noticed my application status changed to accepted on Tuesday and I finally couldn't take it anymore and emailed the grad director on Friday. He said they're still trying to figure out the funding situation and will then get back with more information. That is so weird! My online application preference still says "not entered." Hmmmmm..

cocommi Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 It looks like Columbia has made their decisions. I haven't received anything in my email, but I am too afraid to call and ask...

cmorri4 Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 It looks like Columbia has made their decisions. I haven't received anything in my email, but I am too afraid to call and ask... I too have been waiting to hear back. I think they just have yet to send out the rejections and I hate to bother them... If you do contact them, I would love to hear their response but I don't expect you too since I am unable to myself
cmorri4 Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 I called Penn, your turn for Columbia! Are you talking about Penn State of U. Penn? I am just wondering because I have yet to hear back from U.Penn.
RandomDood Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Are you talking about Penn State of U. Penn? I am just wondering because I have yet to hear back from U.Penn. As I said in a previous post, I called UPenn and I found out I was rejected. That doesn't mean you're not on one of DarthVegan's secret waitlists. cmorri4 1
