They had a thread like this last year and I think it was a good place to discuss and wait out the notifications together :)

Which schools are you waiting for/considering?

I'm waiting for Berkeley and Davis!

Posted

I got into UCLA and UC Davis and now I'm waiting on SDSU/UCSD, but it's not an Ed program it's a Languages and Communication Sciences.

I'm visiting the first two this month and I'm super excited!

The more, the merrier! This education forum has been northeast heavy.
Yea! So glad you started this discussion. Does anyone know which UCs have sent out visit day invites? When are they scheduled?

I am getting really nervous about Berkeley... It seems like in previous years there has been a big gap between acceptances and rejections, and we are inching closer to March. I hope this is just me over reacting.

I'm getting really nervous about Davis too! I sent in my application a bit late so I'm hoping that's the reason they haven't responded.

I applied to UC Berkeley as well. I just called yesterday to ask approximately when the result would come out and they said it'd be from next week to the end of March.

According to the research of the previous results, they almost always let the good news be out first about mid Feb. and then leave those who got rejected hanging till mid March!! So I'll assume that I don't have a chance if I don't get any news next week...

Hope this helped those applied to Berkeley!

I was admitted to a UC in early to mid-February, but only because of an error on my part. I was told decisions aren't supposed to come out until late February/early March. Stay positive; you could, very well, be receiving GREAT NEWS soon!

Details can be sent via PM.

The UC Davis admitted students day is March 4 and the UCLA one is March 18. I don't know if they differ for specific emphases, but those are for Language Literacy and Cultures and Human Development and Psychology respectively. Hope this helps!

UCSC anyone? I see one acceptance on the board already.

Thanks! I have also heard that UC Berkeley's Grad Diversity Day is March 17.

It's definitely different for different programs-- UCLA Student Affairs' Open House is March 8!

Also, Santa Barbara told me they doesn't have a specific visit day, but you can schedule your own visit with your advisor.

I'd love to hear from you after you attend Open House for UCLA! I was admitted to UCLA for HEOC, which is a different program but still under the same Higher Ed umbrella. I have zero information from them other than my acceptance letter... really want to attend but I wish we had some information on funding and/or assistantship opportunities.   Thanks a bunch.

No prob! I'll definitely update about it.  :)

I've been in touch with a student currently in my program, who's been really helpful (though I haven't had that many questions, to be fair). I know that internships are part of my program, so I asked how we get placed in the specific internships...if there are enough opportunities, if you get to choose based on your interests or if it's more complicated that that. According to the student I've been talking to, there's a big list of different types, and students pick and apply for the ones that interest them. Maybe ask UCLA if they can put you in touch with a student in HEOC and see if they do assistantships/interships?

Wow. I would truly, genuinely appreciate that offer. The HEOC cohort I heard is quite small (~10 in last year's cohort, according to another forum member), research-based, and only a one-year program, so it's difficult to find someone who has much info on it. I mean, I'm FROM Los Angeles and at least a dozen friends plus my own sister have graduated from UCLA, and I still couldn't find anyone... so I would be so grateful if you could ask them whether they know of anyone in HEOC. A huge thank you to you, lainie26  :)

I'd also love to hear about UCLA's Student Affairs Open House. I was admitted but could not attend. Any information and your egneral impression would be greatly appreciated!

Anyone headed to Berkeley? Potentially moving west from the northeast--the lack of snow is a definite sell!

I live in Berkeley, if you want info on the area. I know a bit about the Ed department as well.

So I applied to the Human Development and Education program at Berkeley, and spoke with the admissions office today.  I was told that the office still hasn't received the majority of the applications from the review committee, and the coordinator wasn't able to give me an estimate as to when we might hear back beyond "the end of March."  I'm thinking either 1. the admits have already gone out and the committee is still reviewing apps to determine a waitlist or 2. only the first wave on initial rejections have been made.  Not sure which scenario is more likely.  I just thought I'd pass this info along in case anyone is going as crazy waiting for Cal as I am (I have a great offer from Madison that I wish I could just accept already, but I'm holding out for Berkeley as it's a slightly better research fit).  Good luck, all!

When I first heard (or was first supposed to hear) from Berkeley, I heard directly from the POI, not from the department. It may just be that some people are more on the ball than others.

It's so hard to know with Berkeley. Isn't it? If the results boards are accurate, then acceptances typically go out in February and March is fraught with disappointment. Hopefully this year will be an anomaly and good news is still on its way for those waiting. How about Santa Cruz? Davis? LA? Anyone ready accept an offer yet?

I got a rejection from Santa Cruz a few weeks back. :(
