Interviewed/received an offer from Roosevelt today :)

hey man, it's awesome that you got accepted this time around!

I was wondering, did you not get accepted last year due to your GRE scores only? Like was that the only reason that they didn't take you?

Hello!

It's my first time posting here and I am so excited to find out this place... I'd like to share some of my results with you all too..

USF - POI called me last Tuesday and told me I was admitted :) though not sure about funding yet..

Portland State - I was invited to their visiting weekend too and will go.

UHouston - I was invited to visit but not sure if I will go cuz they didn't say if they will cover the flights..

Hope to see some of you guys at some of the schools.. :)

Good luck everybody!!!

Congrats on your school acceptances! May I ask which professor from University of Houston asked you to come out? Was this an acceptance?

When/how did auburn contact you to let you know you were rejected? I haven't heard back from them yet, and I just want to make sure I didn't simply miss their letter/email.

Thanks! Don't give up hope yet, either. Did you get relatively good scores on the GRE? Do you feel pretty confident about your personal statement? Do you have some research experience under your belt? If the answer to any of these is yes, it could mean acceptance is right around the corner!

My GPA was a mediocre 3.6. While my verbal GRE score was good, my quantitative scores were, again, mediocre/average (for Ph.D. programs). I didn't think anyone would take me, going into this process. If there's hope for me, there's certainly hope for anyone. :)

Hello! Auburn sent me an email saying that I didn't get accepted on February 4th, 2014. They said I didnt make the cut because of my low GRE score (math). The fact that you havent heard back from them yet is because you made it to the next round towards being accepted. It is definitly a good thing for you as of now, it means you are still possible for consideration. I hope that helped and put you at ease, best of luck!

Hello everyone!

I'm applying to 4 PhD programs and 1 MS. I'm hoping to submit all my application materials this Friday. I fear the longer I hold onto my statements, the more I'll imagine that something is wrong with them

Good luck everyone!!

Hello,

Did you hear back from anyone?

Hi guys, new to this forum and will be applying for I/O Ph.D. and Master programs for fall 2014! Originally though I'd have a good chance with most of the schools I'm applying for but after looking through last years I/O Ph.D. Application thread, I'm definitely not as confident anymore, especially when competing up against people with +3.8 GPA's and +320 GRE scores, hopefully my research and work experience will make up for the less than amazing scores.

Schools I'm applying to are:

Depaul

Wayne

Akron

Virgina Tech

FIU

Albany

Penn State (Long shot)

SDSU (Masters)

Graduated from University of California, Santa Barbara with a B.A. in Psychology

Overall GPA: 3.46

Psych GPA: 3.53

GRE 158V 155Q and 3.5AWA

Research Experience: 1 year (3 quarters) working as a research assistant in an applied research lab, and volunteered in a program that taught grade schoolers about mental health disorders in various schools in my area.

Work Experience: I've worked various jobs throughout my time in college, ranging from retail, to food and hospitality. Simultaneously balancing workload between school, and work will hopefully make up for my less than stellar GPA.

hey man!

Have you heard back from Virgina Tech?

Congrats, Roebuck1! :D

Congrats! I had an offer from them as well, but I chose to decline. I was a little iffy that their PhD program just started last year, but I think they'll continue to grow and eventually will be a great program.

Thanks Bren, Tanner, and Swkmjjj!

I am still holding out to hear back from the rest of the schools I applied to (10 more), but I do like the sound of the direction that they intend on taking the program. To answer your question swkmjjj, after following up with a few schools last year I was told that my GREV score was what was really holding me back. After retaking the GRE, my verbal score stayed the same but my quant score went up. Honestly, I think a lot of it just depends on the program and in some cases just the professors within that school. I know at Wayne State you have to have a minimum of 5 faculty votes to receive an offer. Some of the faculty will look at the GRE first and others will look at the entire application. Personally, I don't think the GRE tells the whole story of my ability to succeed at the doctoral level but oh well.

Has anyone committed to going anywhere?  Just trying to figure out when stuff might start falling into place...

I still have programs to visit before I could possibly make a final decision.  In such an important decision I want to gather all the information I can before I make a commitment.  It would also be nice to hear back from the other programs I applied to, but depending on how things shake out I may make a decision sooner rather than later.  Is that vague enough?     Are you on some waitlists?

Hello! It's Professor Alan Witt who sent me the invitation. It is just an interview invitation, not an acceptance yet. Professor Witt is the Director of the Doctoral Program so I am not really sure he sent me this because he's one of my POI or because he's the director...Hope it helps...

I also need to visit first... and for one school, I'm waiting to hear about funding. I hope to rule out a school or two soon, but I imagine my final decision will come only after I've visited the places I'm seriously considering. It doesn't help that my research interests are sufficiently broad that I can imagine myself working with several professors. I need to see if I have a rapport with any professors, or if I can see myself jumping in on a cool research project with someone.

I also need to reevaluate my long term goals. Some of the programs I applied to are more focused on research, and might lead to an academic career more easily than others. I've been going back and forth - sometimes all I want is to do research, other times that's the last thing I want to do, and I want an applied career. I imagine I'll figure that out sometime in grad school, but I don't want to limit my options. There's one program I really liked except I was worried it might not offer any options to do applied work. That's something I'd need to visit to be sure of though.

I don't know if I'll wait until then, but I'm kind of curious about the NSF GRFP results... It would be safer to assume I won't get it, but if I do, then I could maybe attend a school I really liked but that didn't offer much aid.

Anyone heard from Colorado State?

I saw someone was offered a flew-in interview last week, and another person was rejected today. I haven't heard anything from them so I called the department. They told me there's no interview or open house so far.

Can anyone tell me if you have any news from Colorado State, Virginia Tech, or University of Connecticut?

As director he sent out all of the invitations, not as POI. Who is your other POI at UH?

Central Michigan sent out application statuses today.  Unfortunately, I was rejected.

I was poking around their FAQ page and it says this: "When will applicants receive notification about selection decisions?

The admission process takes between eight and ten weeks.  If you are accepted into the program, then you should be notified within the first two weeks of February.  However, if you are placed on a waiting list, it could take longer."

I'm in the same boat as you...waiting to hear back. If we haven't heard anything by this next week, I'm thinking maybe waitlist or rejection maybe?

Has anyone accepted/declined their offer at Penn State? It's weird not seeing anything in results search when applicants last year were getting decisions in January.
