Monochrome Spring Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Here is a great paper on how to get into graduate school in ecology. Even if it's not helpful for you this season, I think it's worth having around to show future undergrad. assistants. https://docs.google.com/a/ucdavis.edu/file/d/0B7LF7hqKJtNiUnd6RjN5QVBRX0U/edit

I didn't even know I wanted to go into graduate school until about 6 months before the application due date...

kechemukwa Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Has anyone else been unable to make it to their interview weekends? I live in Germany and couldn't afford the travel costs. I think Cornell might have taken it personally...

I'm sure the schools understand when international students can't make it to their interview weekends, and I highly doubt that affects your application. Have you had phone/skype interviews with your schools instead?
krishnalynn Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 FYI anyone applying to UCSD, from what I've heard from a prof is that the first round of acceptances is out. At least a few people are likely to not take it as far as I know, then another round of acceptances. All final decisions by mid-April.
McKenna Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Last year every one of my applied programs went well into April with acceptances. And I'm glad I waited it out because some of my early acceptances were unfunded. I was eventually acepted into a funded program with an RA-ship. Marine Biology programs seem to be lacking funding again this year. So hang in there if you're still waiting. Our PI's just told us that all department funds have been spent for 2014...and it's only March!

Have you had phone/skype interviews with your schools instead? Most schools set up Skype interviews pretty readily, except Georgia Tech where I had to ask for 'em. My potential professor at Cornell said that the admissions comittee usually assume that students who can't make the weekend are a bad fit, luckily he thinks otherwise and is gonna try to help me out. I'm still nervous since they said I'd have a decision two weeks ago. Has anyone else heard from them?
Hula-hoop Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Anyone apply to Functional Anatomy and Evolution at Hopkins? I know they interviewed five and are choosing two, but I can't tell if they already sent out offers.
microarray Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 How's everyone doing?? Did you get in where you wanted to go? or are you still waiting on decisions?
Monochrome Spring Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Accepted MSU Forestry/Ecology dual-degree program. Waiting on NSF GRFP news now.
