Canadian Universities MSW. The waiting game 2014 admissions
krishnalynn replied to AccioMSW's topic in Social Workers Forum
Just heard back from UBC. First rejection I don't mind too much because that was my lowest choice school, but still sucks -
So far no acceptances. Would not be surprised if I get across the board rejections

Can a rejection be overturned if a professor then decides to take me?
krishnalynn replied to Pavi's topic in Waiting it Out
Usually no, when funding is distributed by the school. -
Things worse than getting rejected from your top choice program.

University of Alberta Fall 2014 Applicants
krishnalynn replied to appletechguy's topic in Waiting it Out
I applied for Ecology programs. I still haven't heard a word from Alberta, but I'm expecting admissions decisions for Calgary to come back late March. -
Why are there so many Internationals on GradCafe
krishnalynn replied to skyentist's topic in Waiting it Out
I'm an international for my uni but I'm an American citizen. I don't know how many of us there are, but that might skew it too because not everyone on grad cafe is only applying to US schools. -
I have a really great relationship with my POI, we have met multiple times, I've met the lab, and we've written a proposal together. Now, all the other grad students I talk to say that this is great and my acceptance is pretty much a given. But I am completely doubting myself and I'm not sure how normal it is to have a proposal with a POI at this point of the admissions process. Since I'm still waiting on my results and I want to just stress out about more things, I figured I'd make this thread, haha. Just out of curiosity--did you guys have a confirmed POI on acceptance?

I got an email from my top choice that was supposed to release results today, and the subject line was "Admissions Decision". I saw the little banner of the title on my phone and immediately threw my phone across the room and started shaking and crying. I was with my boyfriend who made me look at it, he was getting really excited because of course he's 100% sure I'm getting in....anyway after about 5 minutes of crying and shaking, I looked at it and it says. RE: Admissions Decision "We're sorry but we have to inform you..." And then my heart died and shriveled up and shrunk but I kept reading. "....that a committee member is ill, and admissions decisions will not be released until the end of the month." Why would someone be so cruel to my heart.

How Are You Coping With The Torture Of Waiting???
krishnalynn replied to PsycD's topic in Waiting it Out
Just watched Cosmos. Talking about how massive the universe was made me feel a lot better about grad admissions lol. -
The only Geography program I've applied to this cycle is the University of Calgary. It's my top choice, I'm crossing my fingers!

Scholarships/funding for Americans in studying Canada (PhD)?
krishnalynn replied to adenning09's topic in The Bank
I feel your pain. I have American citizenship but I'm living in Canada/applying to schools here, so I am automatically disqualified from almost every scholarship. I can't find any big ones, but I've been applying to small ones. Like the ones offered by The Wildlife Society and ones specific to professional organizations in my field or the province I'm in. They're usually only about $1500 or so though. :/ -
Suggestions for Very Consuming Distractions while Waiting
krishnalynn replied to doingthings's topic in Waiting it Out
I'm only on Season 2 of Breaking Bad. Even if I binge watch until the day I'm supposed to receive my results I still don't think I can finish. So it's basically Breaking Bad and Candy Crush -
Favorite Rejection Quotes from the Results Page

All my US applicant friends are going insane over the GRE and I'm beyond relieved that none of my schools (all in Canada) required it for admission. Thank god. -
Favorite Rejection Quotes from the Results Page

I did my undergrad at UCSD and they always sent me emails from the university at bizarre times of the night. -
Yeah, my program isn't supposed to give out results until mid-March but I don't know if I should obsessively check my email or obsessively check my Web Portal. Calgary is my top choice and really the only school I have a good shot at. Ive seen a little trickle of results from Calgary on the Results page, but it looks like last year the majority came out mid-March so I'm not freaking out about not hearing back quite yet.

How Are You Coping With The Torture Of Waiting???
krishnalynn replied to PsycD's topic in Waiting it Out
I've been insane the last couple of days. Im probably really obnoxious and talk about it a lot because whenever I run into someone on the bus they keep asking when I find out. I am going on a trip this Friday to see my boyfriend, and usually that makes me forget all about my admissions. Sigh. -
When you got a response from Calgary, did you get an email or did you just check your portal?
-
I got one of these. Big thick envelope that looked like an admissions one, but it ended up being some information about a retirement account.

Sh*t people say when you are applying to grad school
krishnalynn replied to Clou12's topic in Waiting it Out
You're applying to schools in Canada? You do know, like...it snows there right? (i did my undergrad in San Diego) or So like are you going to be studying moose and stuff? or How did it take you six months to finish your applications for grad school? Don't you just fill out a form online?
