MattH1 Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 So I applied to the University of Oklahoma on january 15th for the chemistry phd program. It is now February 12th, so I still have some waiting to do. How is everyone else preventing themselves from going insane during the waiting process? Also if anybody out there has gotten into OU for grad, when did you hear back?
peachypie Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 I'd check the results search to see historically when people heard back. All depends on the school and the program. For now just let yourself stay occupied with other things and best of luck! Ortega and MattH1 2

Also if anybody out there has gotten into OU for grad, when did you hear back? I'd recommend staying off of Grad Cafe as long as you can. I'm right on the cusp of several notifications and I can't tear myself away. Alternatively, binge drinking seems to be a common theme. To each his own. roguesenna, pyrocide, Ortega and 1 other 4
the_sheath Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 I am already crazy, so this is just business as usual MoJuiced 1
Boba felt Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Whiskey is helping. That and my plans for binge watching House of Cards on Netflix tomorrow.
oceanlover Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 i applied for a school back in December and still haven't heard back! i've been going crazy, especially all of last month, and then finally heard back from two schools today! the waiting game sucks, but no news is better than bad news right? best of luck!
MattH1 Posted February 24, 2014 Author Posted February 24, 2014 Alright Whiskey it is! Seriously though thanks for the support everyone.
gingin6789 Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Just knowing that deadlines are not indicative of when you'll hear back might help you cope ... For example, I heard from my February 1 and January 15 deadline universities a week before I heard from the January 4 deadline university. And yeah, I did a specific search on the results page to see when I might hear back from my specific program. This turned out to not be all too accurate, though, especially because the weather has been so bad here in the northeast this year.
MoJuiced Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Also, something to give a bit of solace to the wait is that April 14th is about when schools ask for their first choices to make their decisions so this can stretch on. There's a chance you get contacted beyond that. I've even heard of acceptances coming as late as June.
Nikos Evangelos Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I already watched House of Cards. It's actually about as over the top, and humorless, as a Brazilian soap. Totally enjoyed. What now? ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGHHH!! OOOGA BOOGA OOGA!!!!!
MikeTC Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Wait! Not going insane while waiting? That works?!? REAAAAAALY? WADADADAD UMEMEAM!!!
katiegud Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 My method is eating tons of junk food until I feel sick, then I get distracted from worrying about PhD funding.
the_sheath Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 That one never really worked out for me. Replacing one type of pain with another seems counterproductive.
MattH1 Posted February 26, 2014 Author Posted February 26, 2014 My Letter came today, full tuition waver and graduate assistantship! I made it! The whiskey and house of cards really did help ease the pain. deci:belle and the_sheath 2
