I LOVE this bag, I'm a bit worried that it would be a bit big, though. I want to carry a 13" laptop and a couple of textbooks. I was thinking of getting either the 18" or 16" bag. Thoughts?

Oh My goodness! That bag is so beautiful, I can't even stand it. WANT WANT WANT.

I know! The seller is so helpful and well reviewed, too!

I want a bag like this.

Where I'm going, it's going to be really rainy, so my Fossil leather satchel won't be as practical as it has been here in the desert. I will also have an office, which means I can have different bags for different things (i.e., a teaching bag and a school bag), or even leave some of my things in my office and not have to carry everything at once--although I think this bag would do a pretty good job of that anyway.

Ooooh I like that! I just might have to get it too. I still think I'll need a backpack for long days where I'll be carrying books, laptop, and lunch, but that's a nice bag for lighter days and conferences. What color did you get? I liked the "mustard" until I saw it's called mustard... it doesn't look it in the picture

Haha! I had exactly the same thought about that name... I got the "taupe" and the color is not taupe at all, it's actual a color that I would call "camel". That color is perfect for me. My bag has "mustard" accents, and I would say that color is a cross between orange and goldenrod.

I'm going to get a second one soon (probably black), because I love this bag that much.

I really like that! I know what you mean, I probably should stay away from leather because I'm moving to a rainy climate, too. I wish international shipping wasn't SO expensive! :(

Has anyone checked out the Fossil men's bag section? I only had been looking at the ladies' bags and was disappointed because they were all too small or not at all practical for school. The prices are pretty reasonable, too (compared to brands like Coach, anyway!). http://www.fossil.com/en_US/shop/men/bag_styles/work_brief.html?parent_category_rn=331249&departmentCategoryId=331209

I found a backpack on sale in the university's bookstore (where I work) -- it was $15 rather than $60. It's neon pink, but holds everything and is good and durable. I can swap it out for any presentations I'm giving or interviews and things.

Wow, there are so many choices out there.  I gave up and purchased and backpack, because I did not check here first.  But I will consider the Lo and Sons Brookline for something a little more professional. Perhaps if I need to attend a conference or something.

There are! But this topic was extremely helpful in my decision. I'll be getting a Herschel Little America for every day living and a lo and sons for more professional settings.

After five years of shoulder bags, I finally became fed up during my last semester of undergrad. I definitely need to sacrifice the trendiness for my poor shoulder. I'm so getting a backpack.

I'm look at backpacks too. I just want one that isn't so young looking. I was looking at leather backpacks but that may not be practical during the winters where I live. I'm also looking at totes for lighter book days and I found a great alternative to Longchamp bags and it's by Bric's which also sell nylon type totes.

Have you actually seen the Bric's bags in person? I really like their totes but there isn't a store where I live!

I think I found the backpack for me, the Ogio Soho laptop backpack: http://ogio.com/women-s/soho

They are about half the price on amazon. Though, I wonder if a bright colored bag would be acceptable in grad school?

I've found "the one!!"

(the backpack, to clarify)

I just bought one of these:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/r.html?R=1HU2KC255LMSQ&C=3T5MUR8F9569O&H=UGKHMJPDPJDVS1ECG0SUCMUAM68A&T=C&U=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fdp%2FB005BXQ5W8%2Fref%3Dpe_385040_30332200_TE_item

I wanted a Lo and Sons but I couldn't figure out how to order it (there was some kind of error), and this bag seemed similar, with more design options, and half the price.  I haven't used it yet, but from what I can tell I really like it!  I think it will work out well.

I really need to stop checking in on this thread. I've gone from wanting a Lo and Sons bag (everything is currently 20% off!) to a Herschel Little America to a Lo and Sons bag AND a Herschel Little America to a Ranipak YUMC backpack (probably going to end up with this). Indecisive doesn't even begin to describe it!

I know bumblyboo.  I was very close to purchasing the Lo & Sons bag but my laptop is too big.  So back to the drawing board for a messenger bag when I need something a little more professional that will fit my laptop.

I ended up with this bag from Eddie Bauer for my daily commute.  It just so happened that I was in Toronto for the weekend, and ended up walking all over the city, carrying my stuff in this bag.  It was SO comfortable.  Definitely the right choice.

I also have a more professional-looking bag for interviews, conferences, etc.  But for daily use, I need something that is sturdy, comfortable, breathable, and weather-proof.  This bag does the trick!

Yay! Glad you found the one! Thanks for sharing.

Please report back on what you end up getting! I love seeing all the bags!

I got http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004YIFKRM/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i03?ie=UTF8&psc=1 during my last year in undergrad. It actually had an option to fit a 17 inch laptop, but I only needed the one to fit a 16 inch. It is pretty much a huuuuge backpack, but I really needed one that could fit everything since I was biking to campus. Not really "girly", but I've never really been girly to begin with.
