QuidJuris Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Any international students out there already preparing the applications for the 2015 cycle? I can see that at this "International House of Grads" there are a lot of people who are already living in the us or have lived for the past years... Anyone applying for next year or already accepted for this year who hasn't lived there yet?? Anyone also looking for a Ph.D. in communication?

VioletAyame Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 This is me on all counts. Accepted for Fall 2014...never lived in US...PH.D Communication Haha well I fail the last criterium - I did my undergrad in the US and have been here a while - but other than that I'm also international and I believe we met on the 2014 Comm thread OP, there's a 2015 thread going on in the Comm subforum You should check it out, and even though I don't really know the logistics of applying for afar, I can answer most questions concerning the application process itself, so feel free to PM me if you have any question. Good luck!

Bombaygunner Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Hi everyone! I'm from India and I've lived in a few places across Asia/Europe but never America. I'm looking to do a masters in International Relations somewhere near NY/DC. I've traveled to the states a few times but I can't imagine living there. As far as I see it: Pros - big wide roads, great to drive on. - steak Cons - Guns. Guns everywhere. - commercials during televised sport music, ahlatsiawa and 12345678900987654321 1 2
victorydance Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 (edited) I'll be applying to around 12 American universities this upcoming cycle. Never lived in the US. Edited May 28, 2014 by HopefulComparativist
Gvh Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 I did my masters and currently live in the US, but am applying as international to PhD programs this fall. As a tip, if you're applying to PhD programs/funded masters, email the school you're interested in if it's a state school (including UC's) before you apply; sometimes, depending on the field, internationals are disadvantaged due to federal funding restrictions :/ music 1

QuidJuris Posted June 2, 2014 Author Posted June 2, 2014 Who has already done the TOEFL? Is it true what they say about it being easy?
DeleteMePlease Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Who has already done the TOEFL? Is it true what they say about it being easy? Yes.
ahlatsiawa Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 TOEFL should be a piece of cake if you regularly watch English TV shows/movies, read books, have a basic knowledge of sentence construction and a moderate vocabulary. I myself have never lived in an English speaking country and 90% of my UG classes were in my native language, but I still managed to score 114 on the test. So yeah, unlike the GRE, the TOEFL is not challenging at all.
guadalcanal Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 (edited) Hey! Yes, Indian student in the UAE applying to a number of places for Fall 2015, but just one university in the US (I've been to the States twice before). Looking to pursue a Master's in International Relations/Global Affairs. I'm currently prepping for the GRE (will give it on the 25th of July) and making first drafts of all my statements. It's hectic and stressful and I look forward to the day this all ends Edited July 6, 2014 by guadalcanal
