Congrats on the SAIC interview, did they send it via letter or did you receive a phone call? does anyone know when SAIC painting sends out their notifications?

Not to be a downer, but I do want to warn people about the SAIC grad program. I'm sure it's a fantastic school, I got in to two different programs. But it is hugely expensive and they don't give very much money. Just something to think about.

It was a phone call but a friend of mine received an email

Just got an interview invitation via e-mail for UC Santa Cruz's digital arts/new media program for Monday, if folks are curious about their timeline (said they were in the final stages of their admissions process). No word from any other schools as of yet, however.

I too got an email for an interview with UC Santa Cruz DANM program. What professor contacted you?

Hi all!

Recent MFA grad here, who just happened to check back on this forum. For what it may be worth, I offer my post-MFA two cents:

I implore all of you: do not go anywhere that does not offer you funding.

Doesn't have to be all full ride, though that's obviously highly desirable. If a school wants you, they will throw money at you. If you get no offers this year, take a year to further develop your work and then re-apply. For those of you who plan to teach afterwards, make sure you get offered teaching experience. There are plenty of schools throughout the country that offer tuition remission, a stipend, plus teaching.

I'm not convinced Yale or Columbia is even worth taking out $100,000 in loans for. Do not go into debt. There are schools that have money.

That being said good luck to all! I'm not on here often, but if I can be of any assistance, feel free to PM me!

Thanks for offering this perspective, Miyamoto.

In retrospect, I wish I'd been more mindful of funding when making my application decisions.  I definitely agree that starting your career $100,000 in debt isn't going to help you to move forward freely in your work, even if you're coming out of a really prestigious program..

Do you think that schools will look up websites as well?  Kicking myself because I've made some stuff that I really love since submitting...bleh

I feel the same about making good/better work after submitting the application.

I think a lot of programs, if you make it to the secondary stages of the application process, will look at your website if you provided it.

I have used google analytics and have had a couple of very particular locations which are most likely Universities look at my site.

I'm using google analytics on my site as well.  For anyone else who is, what schools do you think have looked at your sites so far? Just curious because I haven't noticed any activity from cities the schools I applied to are in...

Anyone know about funding at USC? Saw somewhere on here that they only offer funding for one year - wondering if anyone here is there or went to an info session and would know whether or not that is true?

I went to an info session, and they do only offer full funding for the 2nd year. It's technically a teaching fellowship as you TA and get free tuition as well as a monthly stipend. The school used to be fully funded both years but because of recent changes to the administration Roski has drastically changed in over a year. I would be highly cautious if you are admitted and make sure to get all the details on what the program is going to be. I hear a lot of rumors in LA and it seems the school wasn't honest to applicants this year on changes to the school....

Congratulations to all those accepted thus far, and good luck to the interview recipients! I've been checking my email incessantly...

herdsman, you're from Detroit?? So am I! (: I'm sending extra good luck your way!

Anyone know what to expect in an interview? I mean I know the gist but anything I should prepare for that might be unexpected?

Bringing the best from the Midwest! Good luck to you too. I really dig the manipulated negatives in your dream series. My favorite is the image with the plastic pony.

I wonder the same thing...

A friend of mine is in public relations and he's been an interviewer and interviewee in high positions from school boards to religious congregations. He explained that like a political debate an interviewee should go into the interview with an agenda, for instance three things that you want to say no matter what. The idea is to be on your toes enough so that you can get your main points across within the framework of the questions asked. I guess it's a way of bending questions to your answers, doesn't seem like a bad idea as long as there's a fluidity and you don't totally divert the questions being asked.

Thanks for the input!

Thats an interesting way of thinking about an interview process, I feel similarly about the "Agenda" viewpoint. I guess we will see how it goes. :)
