igotangels Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 @ESSpressO @mnzxcdmn Same! It seems like we'll be waiting until at latest March 10. UGG I don't know what to do with myself.
MaytheSchwartzBeWithYou Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 Who is the most recent UCSC admit? Congrats! Are you going to visiting day?
karak Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 @IKBlue I haven't met with my POI yet, and have been waiting to hear back regarding an interview. I don't know what this says about my chances so far...We did email back and forth about it for a bit though.

Of course, acceptances continue to trickle in as the first round of people decline, but that's the general timeframe. thank you! like I said, i'm still learning how to operate gradcafe
skydancer Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 Any other UBC admits here? While my funding covers tuition and not living expenses, I'm surprised at how exceedingly fond I've become of this program! It almost snuck into my application file and I'm unexpectedly over the moon and falling more in love with the program every day. Really, I think only a scholarship at Williams (and maybe Tufts) would beat it out now.

JellybeansGalore Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 Has anyone received an official acceptance email from Riverside?

Thankfully I did get admitted to the University of Toronto with funding. Top notch faculty, but not the cold. My top choice was NYU, but these went out already and I heard nothing. I was excited about UCSC too, given the emphasis on ecology. I'll wait and see what was the matter, I guess... I suppose round two may be in the stars for me too. I imagine UCSC to be a progressive hub where you can make solid connections of friends, intellectual and political comrades. Do you think you'll take it? Hi! I have applied to the University of Toronto, too but I'm waiting for notifications... When did you get admitted ? Can I ask you your research area? Mine is Renaissance/Early Modern!
MarinaLazarus Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Hi! I'm asking advice as I received a conditional offer from Cambridge for a PhD in History. The problem is that I've a MSc in Architectural History and Theory and a BA in History of Art and my dream was doing a PhD in one of these subjects- However, my research project involves both architectural history and history and my MSc supervisor suggested me to apply for a PhD in History at Cambridge as there is a potential supervisor who has already worked on my research topic. With my surprise, I have been accepted but now I don't know what to do. Cambridge was my plan B (I know it sounds strange) and I haven't heard back from my first choice (PhD in History of Art at Toronto: 5 years, 2 of courses and exams and 3 of dissertation writing instead of only 3 for the uk program). In addition, I don't have news about funding from Cambridge. I'm not worried about the supervisor who is expert in material culture (so both art and architecture) but what I fear the most is that I wouldn't fit in the department and that I would regret not being in the Art History one. Is it very stupid to refuse an offer from Cambridge (obviously, I will wait for the other notifications to come in)? My supervisor told me that a PhD in History (and from Cambridge) is more prestigious that a PhD in History of Art, Is that true? I get admitted also at St Andrews (History of Art) with no news of funding (only tuition fees).
Lorca Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 To the poster (and anyone else!) who attended the open house at UCSB. Would you mind to PM me?

This is very difficult to answer without more information, but bottomline: don't go anywhere without funding.

MaytheSchwartzBeWithYou Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 To the person who posted a rejection to UC Irvine PhD yesterday and stated they are trying to transfer from another UC, can you please PM me? I'm interested in knowing which school you are trying to leave. Thank you very much!

Hi, UofT has several strong faculty in Renaissance/early modern, so I believe it would be worth your consideration if you get in. I first received a phone call, then a letter from the department on the 14th. I'm into contemporary visual culture. Best of luck! MarinaLazarus 1

But if your question is around prestige, then yes, Cambridge is more prestigious than Toronto. Please note that prestigious does not necessarily mean "better." If I were you, I would inquire with Cambridge about funding and nudge UofT for a response. Hope this helps. Edited February 26, 2017 by la_bouche22 MarinaLazarus 1
baddie Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 Is the status of all the University of Toronto's applicants "Decision Made" now?

Until today my status was "Decision Made" but it switched to "Under Review" again a few hours ago... I've applied for a PhD in Art History and if you go to the results page for UofT this happened to all Art History applicants... Right now I am feeling very anxious as I emailed my potential supervisor last week and I haven't got a reply, yet...The same with the department.

la_bouche22 Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 (edited) Mine is still at "decision made." But this could mean that some of the students who were admitted as first picks rejected the offers, freeing up spots--hopefully you'll be hearing something soon. feelthebern16 Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 (edited) How do you guys feel about writing to departments to inquire about status of application? Just wondering. Edited February 28, 2017 by feelthebern16

Just wondering. I know it's really hard to sit on your hands, but unless you are being pressured for a decision from another school I would say wait until sometime in early to mid-March. We're still in the middle of the season, and depending on the school, they might even have another wave of acceptances yet to send out. Not that I think inquiring hurts your chances or anything, but many university pages say notifications are sent between March and April (even if we know they are not all sent that late), so that is most likely what they will tell you. BUT. this is just my humble opinion. :-) Best of luck!!!! feelthebern16 and MarinaLazarus 2
