Don't use dissertation writing sevices

Recommended Posts

Write your dissertation without using a writing service that clames to help you write and finish PhD faster. These services like Russell Strickland are a joke and are doing nothing but steeling money with false promises of help. I was stupid anf paid Russell Strickland a lot of money up front. For it he looked at my paper once. He was supose to edit it but what I got back had so many mistakes and only a couple of red edits. Further attempt to contact him after that he never replied to me. BEWARE OF THESE TYPES OF PEOPLE OR COMPANIES THEY ARE NOT GOING TO HELP.

I was wondering why would anyone use such service? Then I remember many people pay for editing purposes at different stages in their careers, including jobs applications. As an international student, I could see the lure of getting help with language if it is not provided on campus. But I don't think I have that much money to begin with :P

It depends on the nature of the editing service. If they are writing your dissertation for you, then yeah, that's not ethical! But if the service is simply edits to things like grammar and spelling, then it is fine. My school offers a free proofreading service that will make spelling and grammar corrections to our dissertations (I think they have a contract with a proofreader). You can choose whether you just want edit suggestions or if you will allow the proofreader to directly make edits in your actual text for you (students are generally encouraged to choose the latter).

^ In fact, I know several schools that even require this kind of editing/proofreading service for non-native speakers. And some of the best journals I've worked with employ an in-house content editor who specializes in my field and will read papers both for form and content (they won't make any changes without your consent, but have definitely spotted potential errors that could only be identified by someone who really knows what they're doing). It's obviously unethical to pay someone to produce work for you, but it's okay to pay an editor to help you with the language.
