Mine says 12/16 which is quite odd because I definitely submitted on the 15th...I suppose that's when they got my application? Hm... Would definitely love to know what that means

Hi. Mine also says same thing. I submitted the application in 12/15 in central time, but according to the eastern time it was 12/16.... I think they use the est. I am also eager to know what the meaning is. In fact, one of my letter writers submitted his letter after the deadline. I suspect that it means that the late letter of "recommendation" is "available." Did your letter providers upload their letters in a timely manner? Then I am completely wrong.

I got accepted from UC Berkeley via mail on 4th.

Via e-mail or snail mail?

I'm still waiting on multiple UCs--Berkeley, San Diego, and Santa Barbara. I have seen people post acceptances and rejections (at least from Berkeley) so I'm curious as to what that's about. I'm thinking that I might be in the second round stack.

I got an unofficial email from a professor in the admission committee.

Good luck with your applications!

However, I received notice that a particular school was wary because I had changed advisors so much. I am extremely upset, because I feel like that in a way negates the hard work that I've put in with my current advisor and it gives my past toxic advisors the strength to completely define me as a student. *sigh* I know that I should not let this upset me, and I should be writing my thesis right now, but it really has me contemplating a lot of things.

@Dibenzofulvene, I know of a lot of people who changed advisors more than once. My own father switched advisors twice during his M.Sc. in Materials Science at Penn State. That didn't stop him from completing it with the maximum grade from all 5 members of the committee, one of which had been his previous advisor, with whom he had engaged in verbal altercation. They all said he should have gone on to defend a Ph.D. with his results. So these internal issues you're struggling with have a way of being resolved. As for some particular school being so short-sighted as to judge you on first impression and put all the blame on you for changing advisors ("you're not committed" and the whole yada-yada), screw 'em. You probably don't want to be there anyway.

Thanks @OChemist for that personal and motivational anecdote about your father..it really resonated with me. This time is undoubtedly a transition period for all of us (in varying ways, of course)!
I'm almost certain that I will not get an offer from the school, but in retrospect it is best to devote energy towards the places that are willing to unequivocally embrace us joining the department.

hey @Dibenzofulvene

I just checked my wisc account and it says that my Grad Application Status page is unavailable. Did you perhaps get the same message as well?

Yeah sk8er I have the same message..it's been down since this morning. Pretty weird!

Mine says the same thing. In fact, I study political science. I read some posts that some history and anthropology major students also have also experienced same thing (available for recommendation page and cannot access to the grad app page).

@Dibenzofulvene @sk8er determinant @meteora

Applying to UW-Madison as well but a different program (Gender and Women's Studies MA).

Mine says "Status temporarily unavailable", and it has been that way since Saturday. It makes me wanna cry.

I hope they work that out throughout this week. Please do keep posting any information you have!

Hi cabraloca,

Did you also see the weird numbers and "available for recommendation" section in the status check page?

@meteora Nope. I used to be able to see the name of the program and all the documents I submitted with a checklist and they had all been marked as received by my program, which I called to confirm as well on the week of January 19th (the following week after I submitted my application). After that, no changes until now. When I click on the 'Grad Status App' all I see is: "Status temporarily unavailable" followed by some numbers, lots of 0s and stuff, like an error number of sorts.

I have emailed two POI and they both got back to me saying they will put in a good word with the admissions committee and that they would love to have me, which I have taken as a good sign... but it's been some weeks now and UW-Madison is my first and only option for this cycle so I am just riddled with anxiety because I want it so bad. So all information is helpful!

@Dibenzofulvene Congratulations! That's a great school!

Hey @cabraloca @meteora @sk8er determinant

My wisc portal is back to working! Still says "Available for Recommendation"

Thank you so much for letting us know! Mine says the same!

I guess all this means is that it is open for professors from the Admissions Committee to decide whether to recommend us for admission to the Graduate School, correct? Admissions Committees are probably meeting during these weeks. Yet, all admisions are finalized by the Graduate School as I understand it. So even if we are recommended for admission, final word comes from them or from the program? Or is getting recommended by the program guarantee enough?

Has anyone been heard from CMU, UMich, Cornell, UPenn and Purdue?

Interview or Accept...

I go to UPenn for undergrad and one of my recommenders (who is on the admissions committee) told me before break that they wouldn't begin reviewing applications until January.

UPenn has already started to give offers. My advisor got a call from UPenn last week inquiring about something.
