I have already started looking for apartments around a university that has not even accepted me yet.... does that make me crazy?

Nah, I don't think it's crazy. It's only crazy if you do it at the application stage when you're on the academic job market, lol (and even then only because it's likely to be like 75+ places you'd have to look into).

Back in December, when I had just submitted all the applications and had nothing to do but wait, I checked the apartments around all the universities I applied to. And this was repeated time to time when I was really frustrated by the long wait. I'd say it's normal, and I found out that the students apartments around some schools were really nice at a reasonable price. This makes me expect life in the US even more.

As many others have said, not crazy at all! I have done the same thing, especially given that it's a master's program with short turn-around times and lots of factors on decisions, so I need to get as much research in as possible, which includes cost of living. As long as you're not doing it every second of every hour, you're fine. And even if you are, whatever helps pass the time!

I've started investigating apartments in the areas of the schools I've applied to also. I figure I should at least have some idea what's available and for what price. Hopefully it will make the moving aspect a little easier once I know where I'm going.
