I think the quality of a cohort can be pretty subjective, and I'd imagine it changes drastically over time. I would have been more worried if your friend thought the faculty was awful or something. @awhiterussian I don't know if this helps, but I was 100% positive that I'd bombed my Penn State interview, only to receive a fully funded offer of admission a few days later. Or does one also get accepted based purely on one's application without having spoken to a professor beforehand. Just trying to figure this process out better, albeit in retrospect!

After getting acceptances I've been talking with a few POIs, though.

Do you happen to know if they do interviews or not? I've recently been told that they do, which is concerning (never got one), but I've never seen evidence of any interviews on prior boards... Really, congratulations! And I've mentioned professors I'd like to work with in each of my SOPs too and I've spoken to a few profs but not in all the schools I've applied to and all of my rejections have come from places I hadn't spoken to a POI beforehand. I was just trying to see a pattern ( where there isn't one I guess. ) This process makes one introspect much too much! Carly Rae Jepsen 1

I haven't heard anything either way from Rutgers (and the online status check still says "No Decision"), so maybe I'm on some kind of unofficial waitlist? Did anybody else here apply to Duke? Because I know somebody reported an acceptance, but I don't know if anyone has received rejections from them. That's another school I haven't heard anything from either way, and I just don't know what to think of that.

I have no idea right now, I wasn't planning on getting some of these acceptances. I think I'll decide after visit days. I think they'll send official decisions out this week.
