I'm still waiting to hear from Cornell as well. Based on previous cycles, we should most likely hear something this week. I'm definitely not freaking out or anything

Pff... Of course not. Who is? (hugging my starved knees and swinging back and forth, staring at the inbox)

Harvard OB/Economic Sociology must be out. They emailed interview requests back in Jan and it's been radio silent since.. does anyone know more?

Does that mean other strands of sociology have not sent out decisions? How do you know those two strands did interviews? Do you think those are the strands that sent out acceptances?

Economic Sociology is through both HBS and GSAS Dept of Soc. I just looked for HBS in the results search and saw the interview emails on jan 23 with no word since. There were two acceptances for GSAS Soc on Friday so they may have a few more coming out :)

Thank you for the information! I appreciate it!

Another day with nothing from Northwestern or Cornell. Who else is waiting on those? Cornell said on their page that results would be in late January to early February with most intramural fellowships filled by mid-February. What am I missing?

I'm still waiting on NW and UPenn at this point (as well as waiting on my official Chicago rejection). Northwestern is probably the only school that might sway me from UWM. We shall see.

Oh, you got in at UWM? Spectacular! I was rejected by UWM, which was my tie with Northwestern. I got waitlisted by another school, but man.. if Northwestern say the word, I'm packed and gone by the end of the day. What's your sub-field?

I did! I'm on top of the world about it--I think my fit was unusually strong there, since I've now been rejected from IUB and UMich--but Northwestern funds its applicants so well compared to UWM. I'm primarily interested in the sociology of health--NW's science studies cluster sounds so cool to me, too. What's yours?

@latemegI'm looking at Sociology of Culture, but also of Politics, and mainly the intersection between the two. That's why Northwestern's Rhetoric and Public Culture cluster has got me all sorts of excited

I'm assuming a rejection from Columbia. Congratulations to those who got accepted! So far I've only gotten accepted, but waitlisted for funding at Albany. I haven't heard back from NYU, Temple, UPenn, Uconn, and Princeton. It sucks when the choice of schools you can apply to is limited. I can't relocate :/ Is everyone planning on moving close to the school you'll be attending?

I hear you.  I was rejected from the PhD program at my top school and offered a spot in their MA last year (I deferred, as I have an MA and wanted to try for PhD again). After meeting with faculty and other PhD's in the program, everyone reassured me it was a fluke and no way should I waste more time and money on another MA when I have original research, etc. My POI allowed me to take their advanced doctoral course and met with me multiple times during the Fall semester to discuss and support my research. Seeing acceptances from the program and not hearing anything is just killing me. I am just confused. If I don't get in there, I don't see how or why any other program would take me, considering how much I invested into the department - I spent the Fall semester killing myself with the course work and building relationships instead of retaking the GRE which could have strengthened my appeal more broadly :(

Don't give up! I went all the way to Toronto (not far, but I'm American) to my dream program only to be denied admission to the PhD after I finished the MA (there was only 1 slot available to international students... thanks a lot, Ontario government...) The fact that I was far-and-away the best in my MA cohort made it that much harder to take when I wasn't admitted to the PhD program. Hell, I had mentored some of the PhD students when I was only an MA, so it was devastating to say the least! But I never gave up. The admissions process is so arbitrary. Keep climbing -- you'll get there.

Does it make a difference? I thought the context alone was relevant but if you're genuinely curious, I'd be happy to specify when I get all the results in.

I was asking because you replied to a comment about NYU, and NYU has not released anything, you genius... with that attitude...

ok since you are ever the charmer and clearly the beacon of discerning talent: i replied to a comment about NYU bc like the poster who inquired, I also applied to NYU...along with comments about Columbia, Harvard, Princeton, etc. If it wasn't completely obvious by my post to Proctorvt, I gave a lot of info regarding my history with a dept. Naming the dept would single me out, which would render the appeal of anonymity on this site absolutely moot and a forum like FB far more useful, since I have friends and peers in the actual programs we're discussing. So let me ask YOU again: does it really matter? you being the genius and all should know there is a results page on this site and repeating what has been discussed ad nauseum, "NYU hasn't released anything" sounds pretty dumb...with that attitude...

I'm in the same boat in terms of not being able to relocate coffeentv... baby on the way and moving is off the table for us so it severely limited options but the upside is I don't walk away empty handed lol :)

Called Pitt and they said "Any day within the next few weeks"

Anticipation is KILLING me.

Also I've made the fatal mistake of tying my acceptance to my self worth. RIP me

Congratulations to you and your partner on the new addition to your family! My partner is in a demanding physical sciences PhD program in the city and cannot relocate, so I only applied to the schools around NYC. I'm already dreading the potential 2-3 hour commute, though :/ I accidentally missed the deadline for Rutgers, and didn't apply to Stony Brook because I didn't want to take TOEFL again. My choices are very limited. Anyways, I hope we hear some positive news soon!

I never thought I'd be glad to be single at 30, but it makes this process a lot easier. When I told my boss where I was applying (6 schools in 6 states in . . . 5 regions?) she laughed and teased, "Are you sure you're not limiting yourself too much geographically?"

I didn't even apply to Pitt and this response makes me anxious! They somehow made it sound as though decisions are being made imminently and also the committee hasn't even started reviewing applications.

The talk of relocating makes me so sad. If I (hopefully) get accepted I'll have to close up my newly bought apartment that I'd worked for so hard, have my husband put his career on hold, say goodbye to friends and family and fly across the ocean to a country my husband doesn't speak the language of. And we decided to go with it! I just need an acceptance now.

Cooooome ooooooon, Brown. Where are the rest of your decisions? Who keeps checking my academia page from Brown? Those questions keep repeating in my head, even though the department told me over the phone that all decisions would be released by the end of this week and I know that the person checking my page is likely a grad student. I'm not going stir-crazy or anything.

Congratulations, @abenz!!!!! You should take the Emory rejection off your signature. :-P But seriously, congrats!

Thanks @qeta! I'm shocked, the grad coordinator's email made it sound like my rejection letter was in the post, but the chair of admissions just messaged me. So pleased. Even if I don't get in, I feel like at least someone (sorta) wants me :D
