  1. Also be mindful of campus tours! Especially in cold climates. They always want to give you one, so bring appropriate footwear.
  2. At one of my interviews (the school I currently attend, as a matter of fact!) I was the only one not wearing a pantsuit! I wore black dress pants, a white blouse with a grey cashmere sweater over it. And black ballet flats. I still got in.... obviously. eta: Actually I think one girl wore a skirt (she got in too). But she had a suit jacket. I was the only one without a blazer!

There are lots of great schools and communities within close range of OSU! Try Upper Arlington and Grandview first. Farther away there is Dublin, Worthington, Bexley, and many, many other great places.
  4. Yes, read articles from the other profs who work there and find something you can seize onto for the interview. You may want to re-think attending that school next year, though! My POI left after I had made the decision to come to the school (left in the summer) and now there is no one here who does what I want to do. It's a huge problem because the faculty doesn't want me to pursue the line of research I came to grad school to do.
  5. Write to them and explain the situation. If they still are forcing you, say you can not make a decision but since they are pressuring you it is a "no". Should everything else fall through it is very likely that this type of school will still be willing to take you when April/May rolls around.
  6. Is it bad that the class I am most excited about is not in my department?

That happened to me last semester.

  7. It looks like at least one person heard from them on the 22nd. Via Results Search.
  8. To prepare I read articles by each of the professors I was interested in working with. I knew how my research interests aligned with theirs, etc. I really over-prepared, all of my questions for all 7 interviews were really standard. "Why school psych?" and "Why do you want to go to School X?" "Tell me about your research" or "Tell me about XYZ in your resume". No curve balls at all. Also having questions for current students and profs are key! The format of most of mine was the profs asking me questions (usually a group panel, but sometimes individual interviews) and then after about 10 minutes I get to ask them questions. Occasionally a grad student was there as well. Overall it should be better than you think it will be! Good luck.
  9. Absolutely! You want to get different perspectives because it might give you better insights into the program. It also might help you figure out whose style is the best fit for you from an advising standpoint.
  10. Usually not getting an interview spells the end. Typically it works something like this (just an example): 100 initial applicants 15-20 invited for interview of those interviewed, 5 accepted, 5+ on wait-list. Sometimes schools do a second round of interviews but from what I have seen it is very rare. Chances are if the program you are interested in has already interviewed, you did not make the cut. Honestly you can call and ask if you want, or email... just say "I know interview invitations went out, if I did not receive one does it mean you are no longer considering me for the program?".
  11. Oh my god can school just start already?!

  12. I do not know about your discipline in particular, but it is common for many programs to interview candidates before acceptance. It means you made the "short list" if you will, and your odds probably increased from about 10% to 50%+. It sounds as though they are just trying to make sure your research interests really fit your POIs before they accept you, so I would focus on being able to convey that.
  13. I disagree, I do not think it is cheating. If she did not pass the course then obviously not all her answers are correct. If this helps her learn, so what? Her team will be at a disadvantage when they don't really learn the material and others (who had to work for it) do. Still I can understand asking her not to share her answers with her peers.
  14. So either reschedule the first interview to go to your dream school, or pick another day to go visit your dream school. Places are flexible, they know this happens. I would re-schedule the #1 choice though. Because if you are basically already accepted then it is not as dire that you visit THAT weekend. Plus, visiting the other place may change your mind, you never know!
  15. Congratulations! I think that you should let the applications go through. Not only did you put all that effort and money into them, but you will always wonder about the results. Also, what if something happens with your top choice school? For example, the school I agreed to in April had my POI drop out of the department by June. What if that happens? What if it's something else just as unforeseen? I am a cautious person, so I say wait. You can celebrate this achievement and be happy but still be safe. However I also understand the agony of being waitlisted to my first choice! So if you do get offers to other schools that are not your second or even third choice, release them as soon as possible so they can be offered to others. But honestly it is so early now I don't see any harm in letting all your applications go through!
  16. Perfect! Then I would definitely put something like "these envelopes were stapled together and when I tried to take the staple out it ripped. I am really, really sorry!". Hopefully they can see the staple mark in the undamaged one at least. But really if two are going to the same place I wouldn't worry too much about it at all.
  17. If you are sending them to the same place, then sure. Is the same institution opening both? I would just attach a post it that says something like "oops, sorry!" to the open envelope. They can obviously verify that the two transcripts match.
  18. Send the transcript. How big is the tear? If it can still be mailed as-is, do that. It is possible that they think that error is from mailing If not, send it anyway in another envelope. Then if they reply that they want an OFFICIAL one you can explain what happened and say you will send another one (or you can arrange to have a second one sent NOW and say it's on its way).
  19. First of all, congratulations! I find it depends on the field, although there can be some variation within that. For example, my field typically interviews. However, like you, I received an acceptance last year without having had an interview. The people at that school told me they stopped conducting interviews because they felt the process was unfair -- that people who could not travel to interviews were at a disadvantage, so they stopped doing them. I think Master's programs especially may not interview as much. Secondly, I think it is absolutely appropriate to ask about the financial aspect now. Write and thank them for the acceptance, tell them how excited you are about it, but say you may not be able to attend if you have to pay for everything yourself, and ask about funding.
  20. Yes, call or email and ask. Say you're excited but since you did not apply early decision you will need more time to hear back from other schools. Congratulations!
  21. Today I just want to quit school and go home. :(

      Sorry iphi hang in there.

  22. If the deadline had not passed then it is not too late...
  23. No (didn't apply last year despite living 1 mile away) because it is a 7 year-long program and they have no funding. My current POI is friends with one of the profs there and told me that it was a really good move to stay away from them. I am saying this so you know, not to discourage you! I think transparency is everything when you're choosing a program you'll have to commit 110% and 5+ years of your life to! I am assuming you were that person on the Results who was super pumped about getting an interview - congrats. If you do end up there, the Psych department (as opposed to School of Ed that School Psych is in) almost always needs readers for exams and they get $12 or $13 an hour.
