  1. I've started looking. Unfortunately I'm having the same results as grad school apps (no calls from anyone).
  2. Wow, EIGHT Davis acceptances now! Congrats everyone! I guess I'm out.
  3. May I ask which school(s)? I see you're Social Psych and I have some info about one big-name school's program I could give you.
  4. Did anyone here apply to UC Merced?
  5. I'm in a similar spot with Davis. At least you have 12 applications! I have 1/3rd of that, so eliminating one school is seriously nerve-racking. Good luck! The odds are in your favor.
  6. I met with a professor in person about a month before applications were due. She was very nice, gave me good advice, etc. We had a brief follow-up chat via email immediately afterwards. This was a few months ago, and I haven't heard back from her program yet and probably won't until March (both the school admissions website and results posted from past years confirm this). My question is this: I recently presented at a conference and had a discussion with someone that was relevant to the prof's and my common research interests (which are somewhat rare) and wanted to tell her about it. Is this bad form? Will she think I am fishing for a decision? Additional info: when we met she told me outright that she would love to take me but that my interests might be hard to get past the committee.
  7. What kind of insight would you like? Most people in the program will be professional, working people. Don't expect to have a traditional graduate student experience or community - I don't know much about your program specifically, but most SoE programs have students who only come into USF for a day or possibly two evenings twice a month. The median age is much older (I'd say 35-ish) and most have families. Funding is also difficult to receive and usually rotates between people (i.e. don't expect to get it next semester because you had it last semester). Let me know if you have any other questions! I really loved my time at USF and would be really excited to continue my doctorate there. Unfortunately it's just not an option for me $$-wise.
  8. From what I understand no flat-out rejection or acceptance means you're on the waiting list. So if an accepted student turns down the school they may decide to accept you. Unfortunately most of the time this just messes with your head. If they do decide to accept you they usually get back to you very late and in the meantime you're in limbo.
  9. I know Berkeley interview invites went out for SP students, not sure about your program. Also I think I saw UCSB psych on the results page. Did you ever get around to checking?
  10. Congratulations and lucky you! Acceptances to my first school just went out and I didn't make the cut (I expect the official rejection later this week). Even though I probably won't hear from other schools for at least a month I keep refreshing results and apps... it's horrible! Of course I'm home sick and have nothing else to do. Going back to work will seem like a relief! I also can't help thinking that I should have applied to more schools. With only 3 left to hear from the nerves are really starting to set in.
  11. Congratulations! And thank you for all the information!
  12. It could possibly mean that it has gone from the department to the graduate admissions for review, which would be a good thing! Most departments have to send their candidates to the graduate studies people to get their OK. Anyway, don't know if yours means that, but if it's a change in what it has said since it was submitted it might be a good sign?
  13. Hi, Sorry I am late, but I attended a USF School of Ed Master's program and can help you with anything you may want to know. Teaching weekends were a bit difficult* for me because I (like many other students) work full time, as the program is not funded.. Are you interested in an MA or EdD? *edit: by difficult I just mean workload-wise, the schedule was not usually too much of a problem.
  14. I am also curious if the poster has any more information, such as: who contacted you? Was it a formal or informal offer, etc. I figure Davis is most likely a reach for me, but at this point I'm so desperate for any word from schools! I haven't heard a peep.
  15. We are both female, and my understanding is that she is upward in years... it may be more comfortable for her.
  16. Thank you! Any tips in terms of preparedness? I have read as much of her research as I was able, and have ideas about directions for my research under her guidance. Is there anything else I'm missing?
  17. No, just not sure what to expect from the situation. We are meeting on a weekend because it is more convenient for us both (I work full time during the week, 2 hours away). Her house is very close to campus, so I hope to get the opportunity to see the school since I have never been.
  18. I sent an introduction letter to a potential advisor, and she responded that my work sounded interesting and invited me to come to her house to discuss how my research might fit with hers. Any tips for what to do now? It's an unfamiliar situation and I'm just generally nervous. I have, of course, been reading lots of her published articles. Is there anything else I should make sure to do? What should I expect?
