  1. Too true! I hope you have good alternatives! My POI there was honest about me being a good fit for her but not the department overall... I guess I should have seen it coming.
  2. Were you accepted? Weren't you waiting too?
  3. I had a dream that I was accepted to my reach school. I checked my application online and it said "Congratulations...!" Then I woke up.
  4. Bummer. I would definitely contact the department. Did you ask your friend if most students are able to find other methods of funding? For example, at the school where my partner attends they usually have need of extra readers for exams. No one likes to do it because the money isn't good, but if you were desperate it does pay... Also, I spoke with a potential POI who was discussing how I might have funding troubles. This concerned me until I discovered that what she meant was that I might not be on Fellowship for 5 years and might have to apply for TA/RA positions. eta: you need to figure out if your tuition is paid for or not. That should make a difference.
  5. That's ridiculous. I would absolutely put my foot down. Anyway, I guess that's a risk you're going to have to be prepared to take. Do you have other, competitive offers?
  6. Uhh, the first two sure, but not funding! I would call and ask the department to clarify. Why would you accept without first knowing what you're getting yourself into? No school can reasonably expect you to do that. You didn't get a funding offer for even the first year?
  7. I got a rejection from Santa Cruz a few weeks back.
  8. Can you get work at a summer day camp? They like to hire college kids and you can usually choose which weeks to work, or an quit early if needed. Eta: Also there are many camps that value specialized skills like science or technology or arts that might appreciate your background (these people are usually paid better too).
  9. Wow, what a dream come true! Congrats!
  10. I live in Berkeley, if you want info on the area. I know a bit about the Ed department as well.
  11. No, I'm sorry! Just sharing my experience because I was so excited, and then... The funny thing is I do think it's a good sign! So please let us know - I am rooting for you!
  12. Sorry, repost. I'm on my phone.
  13. I had the exact same thing happen to me and got rejected two days later. I hope you have better luck!
  14. Nothing yet, but I assume rejection. (Just fit-wise, not because of the timing.)
  15. Well someone got a rejection. So it begins.
  16. Congrats! What a relief it must be to have made a decision!
  17. I can tell - your username is not exactly an optimistic one!
  18. Applied for PhD in LLC and have heard nothing. One person has heard, however (search "Berkeley language" in the results page).
  19. I don't want to reveal too much information about her (she PMed me) but I can tell you that she was not applying for HDE, so don't worry!
  20. Thank you! And congratulations. Who is your POI?
  21. I thought Berkeley offers were supposed to go out this week? The results certainly don't reflect that. Anyone have any info?
  22. First acceptance = such relief!

  23. Nevermind, I just emailed the Graduate Office. Hopefully they'll be able to help, and if not I should probably just be patient anyway! Edit: Nope! Got a "we don't know" email back.
  24. Thank you. There is only the General Director of Graduate Admissions. I called the office some weeks ago for something else and found them to be very underinformed about the department to which I was applying. So I don't know if I should try again.
