  1. Is NYU giving you money? If not take GPPI's offer
  2. I worked at the international students office of my former school, the only case in which someone was denied was because said someone was from ,Iraq and was a refuge in Syria what we did was contact the local congressman and he spoke to the department of state for us, a month later said student had a visa. To be honest I think once you have an I 20 is because any ok school has checked your document well enough that you should be fine (while I worked there even the Iranian student had no issues), so unless you are a refuge in a different country and your home country is one the US is at war with, provided you do have the money to pay for your course and no weird background check you should be fine.
  3. So that is the weird thing my I20 definetely says 24 months, guess in the embassy they just didn´t care ha! I am trying for them to issue an I20 a few days before so I can move in for my preterm.
  4. I just got an offer for 10k€ from SAIS Bologna, I am turning it down because it is definetely not the program for me but they definetely have extra funds now!
  5. Okie, so I better get a realtor before and go through him instead of applying directly.....it is so complicated!
  6. So I got mi visa today and it has an expiry in 2017 which is weird as my program only lasts for 24 months, also the visa does not mention the 1 month rule, my issue is I want to attend preterm which starts exactly 1 month before and my i20 does not mention preterm.....can I move in a week before preterm? Why did they give me a visa for 4 yrs?
  7. So I do not get this in my country you look at an apartment, give an offer, they accept it, you sign a contract pay a 1 month rent fee as security deposit and when you move out you get that back. In here I don´t get it. What is an application fee? Do you get that money back if you do not get an apartment? What is a pre-lease? What is the difference between that and a lease? If I am international and do not have a credit report or security one, how do I go about it? HEEEEELLLLLPPPP
  8. Say I will be living with a friend, that way you are ot lieing, but at least in my interview they never asked that
  9. There is a whole discussionin this in the government affairs subforum, I recommend you check it out
  10. Strange that Harris is not up there either...
  11. I think namewise in DC they are the same, but SFS has the GTown name as well which better known abroad than the JH name
  12. Yes In that case I think you are set Georgetown is definetly the big name outside of the US, you just made it sound as if it was a being in DC and geting a job. Good luck, Georgetown is awesome!
  13. If the "job" factir is your reason do be carefulnor contact a few internationals before, at least from GPPI I spoke with 5 at the open house, all of them said that whilenthey did get great internships (more than one at the WB) none had a job lines up after graduation at least not in the US, one had their old job back in Japan, after asking if this was the case in general, they said yes, that career services was pretty useless for internationals and they did not know as well as the power point made it sound. In fact two of the students were really critical. Email them maybe the SFS is different but do be careful!
  14. Why don´t you call them up explain your situation and ask point blank about it, my experience with LBJ has been that they are very accomodating!
  15. Agreed, and I do not mean the expensive courses but the books and online tests are the best, well those and math bible!
  16. I go to the States a lot, in general I think their rationale is the opposite if you keep going in and out and you are applying for a visa the reality is that if you wanted to go there illegally you would have already. You should be fine
  17. had mine today never asked to see any money (possibly because in I20 it says only 1k will be personal funds) asked me where I worked, and whether my mom had a tourist visa (which she did), very strange but hey all set
  18. Whose Dionne or Blitzer? who is better on TV? I can see Blitzer being funnier and Dionne being more profound? And yes I am embarrassed about the bathroom incident but how was I to know?
  19. Agreed I had no idea who the guy was (also international student here) and in fact I thought that although he was entertaining and obviously a very cool person he made it sound that luck, rather than SAIS was the reason he had such a succesful career lots of "a guy told me to apply as a correspondant and it just so happened this was 5 days before the Gulf war started" type of quotes, when I contrast that with E.J. Dionne´s (also had no idea who he was an embarrasingly enough I asked him where the bathroom was) appearance at GPPI who basically said "they allowed me to pick where to teach and I chose GPPI because ti is the best" the second one wins!
  20. Revolution would disagree, but yeah I think you really do not need both for what you want!
  21. True, that´s why I decided that way, question so are you pursuing an MBA or just the MPP?
  22. So I am from Mexico and attending school in Texas and want to drive (I will have a job 10 miles away) plus that way I can move all my stuff. My idea is to drive my Mexican car for the 13 hr drive it entails, buy an American insurance (you can do that according to the internet) and thus have it with me. My car is a 2007 Automatic sw peugeot. Has anyone any experience doing this even ifit is from Canada? Any help will be very appreciated!
  23. Si quieres mandame un PM soy mexicana tambien, I got into most of my choices some with full rides so just apply and see what happens! My advice is to really study for your gres we were three Mexicans applying to MPP programs at my job, I had the higher GREs (but lower WE and GPA) and I had the best scholarship/offers, do look into Austin (really good scholarships for Mexicans plus a lot of the professors research is focused on Mexico), Duke and Georgetown (some good opportunities too from what I saw with my friends), everyone I know got into Columbia and Chicago but without scholarships (too many Mexicans applied, Chicago alone admitted about 16, they had an open house in Mexico City and only one had any money), if you work for the government each subsecretaria offers a full ride, sadly I do not, also conacyt is almost impossible but fullbright might be an option (if you studied undergrad in Mexico and have decent scores, the first batch went out already but they hold a post acceptance one too), also look at Banco de Mexico Fidereh, they have 200k mexican pesos per year interest free.
  24. GPPI, LBJ, SPEA, and Harris are today, SAIS Bologna is on May 1st
