He does, but he is clueless about the whole internship thing and the woman in charge of job placements is yet to reply which seriously makes me wonder. It is sad that such an expensive program cannot respond to such a simple question!
-
So unless they answer differently my prospectives are doing an internship back home (and as no one knows sais there it is not the best choice, or something in Italy with it´s 40+ % under 30 unemployment rate). Sorry for being a drama queen but the lack of response from the career services, I am going to the DC openhouse too and then deciding, maybe I ve gotten it completely wrong but Mr. Graves couldn´t give me a straight answer other than "our students do internships around the world", I am sure it is true, but that might just be because well they have to go back home as they are international.
-
The sad thing is I emailed the career services more than a week ago and they still haven´t responded (pretty bad sign considering Nelson "put me in touch supposedly" if you ask me), visa wise it is almost impossible to do it without OPT and we can´t have that as we will not be students in the US until afterwards.
-
My issue si that I don´t have a EU passport and thus I can´t to internships outside of Italy either plus the no funding was very not appealing!
-
Im also curious about this, I think my biggest doubt is whether as an international it is possible to do an internship in the US over the summer, even though I asked Nelson Graves directly he didn´t know the answer. At the same time I didn´t get any funding and in my country SAIS is less well known than GT, Chicago or even Austin. So any current students please do share your thoughts!

Will send you the message I sent the rest. For the forum bottom line....it was awesome!

For me what convinced me is seeing my dream job organization EDF (as I have already done consulting for them and love them ) has a pretty big branch in Austin, and I did ask and a lot of people (about 6 currently) intern there, I am sure this is the case for other NGOs too! The one big difference would be world bank, etc. but my guess is you can try and intern there in the summer!
-
For sure, will send u a PM the same one I sent Kitten and FrenchO and two "real friends"

I know a few of my coworkers if you want I can put you in touch with them!

I am rejecting it, in addition to the other answers (no funding, etc): 1) Thesis advisor is a U chicago alumn and really didn´t recommend it, in fact she refused to write my LOR to there because in her words it is a cash cow for the university with terrible reputation with in. 2) Do not like that core classes have an average of 100 students vs 30 for GPPI or LBJ (sorry this might be the LAC mentality but if I am paying 60 k a year I want a personalized education) 3) Bad weather (already spent 4 yrs in upstate NY and they say it is even worst in here) in fact the only pro I could see was that in some neoliberal sectors of my governement the Chicago name sounds a lot (currently work in that type of place), yet in others they compare you to the chicago boys (which is very associated with the dirty wars in LatAm and is a terrible rep to have). Just my two cents!

Im in the same boat but LBJ vs GPPI, currently visitng Austin and loving it....plus amazing financial aid and also want to do a phd....would love an answer
-
Lucky you, lovimg austin so who knows maybe mine will free up, especially after Georgetown just increased it´s tuition by 3k a year!
-
Not yet, Im debating between LBJ, GPPI and SAIS. I am visiting LBJ this weekend, and SAIS hasn´t managed to answer me about internships for international students witht their first year on Bologna. What about you?
-
rejected....oh well
-
In an MPP you get much more classes on cost/benefit analysis, policy implementation, etc. In general the degrees are a lot more quant heavy (although SAIS IR program might be more quant heave than any MPP). In IR you get more theoretical classes, yet given the number of electives in both programs, it is possible to taylor them to be pretty similar!
-
No idea, i have tried and failed miserably at both my attempts. Will ask closer to the date.
-
Congrats! I wish I had gotten some $. Oh well, I guess it will be between GPPI and LBJ for me!
-
Rejected, nice email though!
-
Deciding between Georgetown (10k) and SAIS bologna (no funding) which one do you think is better?
-
So an idea wherever the Pope is from gets full funding....my cardinal is an idiot so I have no chance
-
I heard from SPEA back in December, 3 weeks after I applied (around the 18th). They said "we seldom extend aid to international students" so Im guessing I will decline as I have a fully funded offer from LBJ and for no money I also got into better known programs even though I really like their environmental emphasis! I think if Elinor Ostrom was still alive I would consider it more as she is one of my heroes but without her it is just not the same!
-
In at SAIS, LBJ, GPPI, Harris, SPEA and Erasmus Mundus...waiting on two more (but super reaches so fat chance!)
-
so they did think you were international? LOL congrats Kadisha!

For Bologna they told us thats why I took longer!
