I'll be a bird in my next life... I know it...

  2. My pleasure. I usually go with the medium sized (I split with a friend... don't judge) and the flavors are right on target. Also the drizzle matters... a bit. I think they have a hazelnut drizzle - if you get that along with some chocolate drizzle. MMM! Life could be dream.
  3. You're right. But there is an unsubstantiated Rhetoric MA accept that says they've notified their first rounders... Not much to go on butttttttt self-doubt sorta works that way. I'm good though - plenty of people will get accepted much later. Damn. Sometimes ya gotta wonder what's going on behind the ivory curtains.
  4. I'll let you in on a secret. Starbucks Hazelnut Frappe with a shot of Mocha. Bingo. Nutella Coffee.
  5. I think it depends. Say you get accepted to both. Thats when I'd start asking questions. "Who will I be working with?" "What level of individual attention am I given?" "How many others will my advisor be advising?" "Where does the funding come? (fellowship? teaching? etc?)" "How much leeway am I given in designing a course?" "What are my opportunities for summer?" "Am I in class with PhD students?" "Any cross-department courses?" "Travel funding?" "Research funding?" "What resources have you got for me? (Library, artifacts, etc)" If it all comes out even ask yourself, "who has the best pizza nearest to campus?" ETA: Also - what Proflorax said.
  6. I'm listening to old timey diner music today. "She-boom" "Little darling" and more!
  7. Be excited! You're a bright and wonderful young woman. The world is your oyster. If you don't like shellfish - it's your avocado. They want you in Syracuse. They just don't know if they can afford you. Look at it this way. Someone read your SOP and your WS. They read your LOR. And then they decided... wow. She has a lot to offer. Sure, they didn't throw everything your way... and that could be for any number of factors. But it doesn't reflect the type or person or scholar you are. It doesn't make you inferior. Be excited. dance around. If funding comes, dance harder. If no funding comes, dancer harder. I dunno why I'm in this dancing mood...
  8. Shhhhhhh. It'll all work out. someway or another. just feet up and enjoy the ride.
  9. Jump. Just keep jumping till you pass out from exhaustion. Yay!
  10. (><) <3 I hope you're right. I hope those job offers are something interesting - even if you won't be able to say yes after you get into Arizona.
  11. Starting to feel the pressure. No options so far. It is clear that I'm not a first rounder for Purdue. Denied from Austin. No word from anyone else. I was hoping to hear from Louisville today. Historically they notify their MA's with GTA right around this time. Website says snow day though... so here I am with whiskey, stew, and bbc America. No job offers. Not hot water in my house. No new housing options. But I have the day off! :-D
  12. y'all, How we doing? It's after February... as an MA applicant I'm not overly worried but I'm starting to feel the pressure. Impromptu dance party? Just dance the stress away?
  13. today feels like a good day to be accepted.

Today was not a good day for me :( I got rejected from two schools and bombed my interview at another. Hopefully tomorrow will be our day (if today wasn't for you)!

  14. Out of curiosity... why is it worth the fee for the CV line?
  15. What sort of publishing does D want to pursue? I'll be honest - I really have no idea about the world of publishing. But I recall reading a thread about academic publishing vs large publishing house. I'm out on a limb here but I'd look at course offerings and perhaps any large intern/extern ship with a publisher.
  16. Woah. I have no intention of insulting you or nitpicking your title. It comes down to perspective. I'm not certain the phrase "get to" implies any sort of universal connotation. I get to do my taxes every year... I have to but I get to too. We're all stressed and a lot of us are in really shitty situations. Your shitty situation is that you have to weigh personal, professional, and romatic (obligations? feelings? doubts? etc). Others are dealing with rejection. Others are dealing with waiting still. The immediacy of our own issues certainly makes them sting more. On top of that - it's a big decision. Perhaps the biggest decision you'll make - or perhaps on a short list of big decisions. I'm not hijacking this for a pity party for me.. I have plenty of pity parties for myself. Did you see my post with that entire tub of ice cream? I qualified my post plenty. I'm not insulting you. I appreciate the advice other posters have given. and perhaps it really is better to have no choice at all in the matter... I'm not there - so I can't give you my opinion. We good? Hug it out with some ice cream? One love.
  17. I'm an MA applicant. There are several of us. And there are several that are on the results board. Different rules. Same game.
  18. MAN! It's so slow. Could it be that all the folks getting in just aren't sharing it on G.C?
  19. Wow. I really like your outlook and appreciate your advice. I'm glad (is that the right word) to see you're applying again this year. Waitlisted or not. Best of luck.
  20. "Have to"? You mean "get to". Certainly you mean "get to". I don't mean to insult your anxiety/stress/hesitation. I understand - the stuff is difficult and I'm very appreciative that I can eavesdrop on the advice. But, at least you're left with agency. Some folks may not get to make a choice... perhaps that's better? But I dunno. I'd rather hold the steering wheel.
