  1. Still waiting too. but what can you do? To be honest - I'm sort of in love with the programs I've been accepted in... I'm not even certain Purdue could sweep me off my feet.
  2. Waiting is no fun... I find drinking helps.
  3. Sometimes it's tempting to take the easiest road. I reckon a lot of folks at your MA uni would like to see your name on one of their degrees. They've worked hard to support and teach you - your success is in someways their success as well. After all they've done, don't deny them that opportunity.
  4. I haven't made up my mind yet! Thank you for the info - I've had a busy few weeks so I only glanced at the C's website.
  5. Anyone got wind of C's Panel proposals? The Upenn feed only has 1 CFP up for C's. I'm sort of in a weird place to be putting together an entire panel (Starting my MA at a new uni in the fall) but I'd really like to hit the ground running and have something in C's next March. Anyone? Anyone?
  6. Well. Unless funding comes through from Louisville I'll be turning down their un-funded MA.
  7. Well... I'm just curious as to if there really is a one-size fits all. I sort of think it depends on where you are in your career. I said "opportunity" because I value the whole experience of going. 1Q84 is an MA student according to the forum, so say for instance that the grad conf was at 1Q84's dream school and they were flying in 1Q84's second "top POI" to be the keynote speaker from his/her second dream school. Would the opportunity to work extra close with a few folks that really matter outweigh the conference "prestige"? Just curious.
  8. So I had to back out of a large regional conference a few months ago and I had to do it after programs had already been made up (realllllllllly shitty). I sent the fella who was taking care of all the business a polite email briefly explaining my situation. He was very kind and enthusiastic about seeing me at future conferences. We're all adults here. But if I may ask - is the larger conference really a better opportunity? Why? (excuse my naivety)
  9. A close friend of mine is presenting - he's doing some comic book stuff! Whisper in his ear, "bow ties are cool" he'll know what's up.
  10. Way to go! Tweed... I seem to remember you inquiring about programs and couples whatever happened with that?
  11. I can't disagree there. But I am assuming that you're under contract in your current position, Academicat. There are several considerations when being "professional" for instance - there are employment lawyers. Having a lawyer draft up your resignation might be "professional" in one setting and a little much in another. My current job is in Law. So when it comes to work & money I'm a little predisposed to want that extra comfort. In everything else (except for food) I'm super laid back. Feel out the environment. If something were to go horribly wrong would your peeps support you? perhaps offer you something until you got launched again? If the answer is no - I'm not sure I'd officially resign until I was 100 percent sure I had something else. ETA: Ah! you've already solved it! :-D I'm in at Eastern Michigan - super excited but sort of testing the waters and waiting for the final word from other programs.
  12. A few things… when do you plan to know? You’ve heard from everyone by now right? So it’s just on you? Can you set a realistic deadline? Is another week really going to tank their job search? Regarding the letter. Perhaps you can word the letter so your resignation is contingent on your official acceptance and “signed contract”. That way you’re doing the cool thing and the admin can move to get someone in but you’re also covering your tail a bit. If something goes wrong (unlikely right?) you’ve at least got a little bit covered.
  13. I'm considering it... Although I was just offered full-funding at Eastern Mich and I'm not sure I could be persauded to (maybe) get in at ASU.
  14. Now with full funding

  15. So... I sort of look like Harry Potter. I wonder if I should switch out of Rhet and go the Lit/YA path.
  16. Where you waiting? I think I'm in at one place with funding... Or will be. And another I'm waiting waiting waiting for funding
  17. Thanks for sharing this. I've got some stories (not so much English) to share.
  18. Why does it have to be books? Things NOT to read - this thread after page 4.
  19. Wish I could help you - I'm in a very similar situation with U of L & funding. Can't see how many folks traditionally go elsewhere.
