  1. Tied for #5 in 2009 (U.S. News and World Report) -- link in post above...
  2. If anyone knows how to generate forced carriage returns when posting from an iPad, please PM me. I have had some posts come out completely unreadable because mine seem to be automatically changed into a space or ignored altogether... See one above...
  3. Food for thought from others better versed than I on this topic: I recommend the above discussion thread - especially New England Nat's posts...
  4. Annieca, You'd previously said, "One of the schools I'm looking at eliminated their dual Library Science, Public History program because they didn't have the professors for the Archives Concentration. This was by FAR my favorite program for the actual program aspects. (Another school took top spot for one professor.)" Is your acceptance to the former or the latter? Congratulations!!
  5. Thanks to comprehensive post from person accepted to The Ohio State University. Our stats are almost exactly the same, so I can only hope that my fit to my programs is as good as yours... Anyway thanks, and congratulations!!
  6. Missing LORs. Impotent. Important.

One showed. Straggler holding up two apps due Feb 1. Aghhhhh.

  7. I'm curious what your research focus is, thmp945. Anyone else who'd like to chime in, everyone's welcome. Mine is incarceration.
  8. Why don't people post their rejections and acceptances, with stats? Anonymity concerns?

Unfortunately, yes. I would post my stats, but they would likely mark me out from the crowd if an admissions officer were to visit the results board. If only there were a way of retroactively appending these details to posted information, then I would do so after selecting an offer.

Thanks to everyone who commented. I understand alittlebitofluck's position, but I guess I don't ever hit the return button without first asking myself if there is anyone I wouldn't want to read the post. If so, I stop and don't post. That probably means I self-censor some and am less forthcoming, but that's just reality these days, I guess...

The thing is, there is just a few of early admits (January acceptances) in my field, and from the GRE scores you can really tell who is who if you follow the profile thread.... some sense of anonymity is needed in this kind of forum :)

  9. I checked the ETS book out of the library and studied for a couple of days, primarily to know how the test was structured, especially the analytic writing, which I was completely unfamiliar with. My attitude was that whatever my talents and knowledge, my best hope was that the scores would accurately assess them. I took it once, did fine, and never intend to take such a test again.
  10. I took what I wanted from it, realizing that my knowledge of the various scenarios was constrained to what Dr. Wiener presented. I prefer books that revel in the complexities of the human condition and expect readers to arrive at their own conclusions. It's not as if I don't appreciate a point of view, but I feel like if one is attempting to prove a thesis one should be exceedingly rigorous and cognizant of the critiques those with opposing views might levy. I prefer an airtight argument, if one can be made. This was not offered. That being said, I enjoyed reading it and gleaning from it what I could. If any one thing emerged that I will take away from it, it is the litigious nature of our society and the impact that had on the AHA in multiple cases. That, and -- between the lines -- be very careful choosing your advisor.

  12. I was intrigued by the discussion of which programs were conservative and which weren't, so I made some inquiries... IUP's Graduate Program representative, Dr. Jennifer Roberts, offered this in response: "I was actually surprised by the characterization of IUP as "conservative". Historically, we've had a mix of folks who consider themselves to be mainstream or otherwise (e.g., peacemaking, critical, feminist, integral). Our students are encouraged to select dissertation topics that they are passionate about. While we've certainly had students select dissertation topics that very much reflect the mainstream, we've had many other students test ideas that are far from it and/or outside of our discipline. So, I guess I refute the categorization of our program as conservative." Furthermore, they have rolling admissions but funding requires both the application and the assistant ship application be in by March 15th. Food for thought.
  13. Congratulations. Not only not posting, but those who have are not providing "red diamonds"... What gives? I am going to be completely forthcoming when (IF) I am accepted somewhere, in consideration of those who came before and those that follow.
  14. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/andy-serkis-animal-farm-381314 Interesting that they would try to take this on again.
  15. With funding becoming less available these days, is there any indication that they might be "culling the herd?" Not intended in ANY way to be insensitive to those in toxic situations.

  17. Your mention of the library consortium prompted me to do some digging around. I found this: http://www.valenj.org/ Turns out Princeton and Drew, two of a total of 53 core members, share resources. The extent to which this is analogous to the one you mention, I don't yet know. Do you know the name of that consortium so I can compare them? Search for yours on this website: http://icolc.net/
  18. I just found this thread. There wasn't a spot for a CV or resume upload. Instead, they had the long questionnaire (the application) and all the information that is on a CV or resume was asked on the questionnaire. I think this is their way of formalizing the data so that they can do comparative analysis via spreadsheet. Leslie Noel is the person I would ask if you still have questions. I gave my POI mine, so that she can refer to it if she is brought into the conversation. She is not on the ADCom; at least I don't think so.
  19. It sounds like your strategy was successful. Difficult situation, well played. I hope your student finds his/her niche at the university. I know it can be very difficult for those on the spectrum. Hopefully your efforts contributed to that persons being able to...
  20. I can't offer any advice, since I have no relevant experience. Just know other people are reading your post and commiserating with you.
