I've been trying really hard to not get too psyched up about any one option until I hear back from places. It's difficult! I'll be happy at any of the schools I applied to though, so it may ultimately come down to cost if I get multiple acceptances. I'm really hoping for some funding options. Congrats to those who are hearing from places this week! It's exciting to see so much activity on the results page.

Oh man, I passed out in class the first semester of undergrad. I had given blood earlier in the day. I felt it coming on and for some reason raised my hand as a means to tell someone. Apparently I slumped over in my chair about the time the professor called on me. I've since learned that I'm quite prone to fainting, and I'm terrified of it happening in front of my own students one day.

I read the instructions for the last part several times and still couldn't quite figure them out. In particular: "Read each word and then click on the number from the scale below next to each word." There were no numbers to click on either below the words or next to the words. I enjoyed the association task, though. Good luck with your work. Is a final project for a Bsc commonly called a dissertation in the UK?

Getting a realtor is a good idea. There are usually some that specialize in this kind of thing and they have some great inside info sometimes. It's also free to you - the owner pays the realtor for making the match. Unlike when you are selling a house, you can work with as many realtors as you want.

Okay, that's a ridiculous rejection, but I fear you may regret that snarky reply.

Acceptance dance (which I hope to be doing soon!)

The neural bases of language and neurogenics are my big area, because I love the brain stuff. At first I thought I just wanted to do the language aspect of that, but lately I'm thinking I'm also interested in motor speech disorders and voice. Fortunately for me, brains tie into everything in some way. I hope to refine my interest during grad school and to do a thesis.

This is probably too late to help OP, but I thought I'd mention it in case someone else comes here looking for advice. I was 19 when I graduated college, and I've generally found that keeping my age to myself is a good thing. Now that I am older and applying for grad school, mentioning it is neutral, but it was definitely not in my favor in my first few years out of school.

I have tried the long johns under dress clothes thing, and I encountered issues: 1) I felt frumpy because of the way it they made my clothes look 2) I felt uncomfortable with having all those clothes on 3) I was insufferably hot when indoors. How do you make it work? I have always lived in hot climates, and dressing both warmly and professionally seems impossible to me.

Is it OK to ask who's on the admission committee?
Tuck replied to TonyFerreyra's topic in Interviews and Visits
Based on your more recent post, I think there is possibly a diplomatic way to do this if you really must. I agree with everyone else that you shouldn't ask who is on the committee, but you could ask the grad coordinator who you will be meeting with or, to be even more polite, ask what your itinerary will be. -

Northwestern won't contact us with decisions until the end of March. decisions until the end of March. the end of March. I think I am going to slowly have a stroke between now and then.

What are you guys doing to make the time fly while you wait? I am staying busy with work and school (finishing up my pre-reqs), but it doesn't seem to be helping, lol!

Question about CFY during PhD Program
Tuck replied to pinkberry's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I don't quite know the answer to your question, but to add to what TalkItOut said, I will say that I've been told having your CCC can make you more competitve as a faculty member at some schools, because they want faculty who are qualified to teach the clinical courses. I've noticed that lots of people have a PhD and their C's. But, I'm just getting started in this field, so take that with a grain of salt. I'm also really interested to know whether anyone has done their CFY concurrently with PhD study. -
I think I accidentally mis-reported my GRE percentiles. HELP!
Tuck replied to Tuck's topic in Applications
Okay, thanks for the reassurance, guys. I think I will do nothing about this. The lesson here is that it's easy to let a small problem (or non-problem) become mangified in your mind when there is a lot of pressure or stress around it. -
My ultimate goal is to do a PhD and eventually have a career in research and academia. However, I am an out-of-field student (with prereqs) and I don't quite feel ready for that yet. I met with a career counselor and CSD faculty at several universities to talk about my career path, and I decided that doing a clinical master's degree first would be a good idea. One faculty member told me that although she had never used her clinical degree, she felt it made her a better researcher. Several people pointed out that having the CCC and a clinical degree makes faculty candidates more desireable - especially at smaller schools, because they are looking for faculty who can teach in both areas. Of course, some faculty who went straight for the PhD said I should go that route, but I just feel like I need a broader background first. Additionally, I think having the Master's degree would make me a more competitive applicant for top tier schools and fellowships. I want to do a thesis during my Master's and hopefully get a publication out of it. I selected schools with a thesis option and with faculty working in my area of interest to facilitate this. The plan (for now) is to go straight through from the Master's program to a CFY to a PhD program, so I will be thinking about what I can do to strenghten my C.V. and PhD applications from DAY ONE of the M.S. program. (Suggestions welcome on that front!) I am anxious about the debt issue, but I know that this is what I want to do, and it's not going to get any easier nor any cheaper. I'm shooting for some funding for the PhD, and I'll be able to defer my Master's program loans during that time. I know this is going to be hard, but I'm excited!

I hate to say this because S. Carolina is my alma mater (Anthropology), I love that darn school, and I might want to do my PhD there in the future... but it seems a little arrogant to say they only want candidates who "know" they want to go there. It seems like that policy might indavertently exclude top-tier candidates who expect they may get a funded offer elsewhere. But, I suppose it works if they send out their decisions later than other schools. However, I'm sure they know what they're doing.

Where I live, neighborhood email lists are a great way to find places for rent - especially those managed by an owner rather than a property management company. You could give that a try too.
-
I don't understand how you can respond in 10 days when you have perhaps not even heard from other schools to which you've applied. ??!!?!

My list includes some new comfortable, dressy flats and blouses. Everywhere I've applied is colder than Central Texas, so I need some warmer clothes in general. I also want to get a new pair of glasses. I'd like to get some work done on my car before I go from having a salary to being on a grad student budget. Alternatively, if I end up going to Salt Lake City or Boulder, I might want to sell my car and buy a 4WD vehicle.

I don't know anything about Boston College. G2A, what are you alluding to here?

UT Austin is open. They give us a lot of our federal holidays during Winter Break. This is the stretch that sucks the most actually - there are no holidays between MLK Jr. Day in January and Memorial Day at the end of May.
