  1. Trust me, it is not easy to post that you possibly must give up. However when you are limited like myself, you must deal with the realization this career path may not be in my path. I truly want to be a SLP. I can't move across the country and I can't afford another 20K in student loans by attending a private university/college.
  2. Thanks Slp1238 I hope you get an acceptance too! I really feel too much emphasis is placed on the GRE. I took the test three times. My last scores were V152 Q141 AW4. I went up in verbal but down in quantatative. My highest score for quantatative was 146.
  3. Unfortunately, I am limited. I can't move to another state and I can not afford a private college/university. I live in NY and it is very competitive.
  4. I am in the same boat. I am praying to get in this year, but I have to think what if I do not. More school is simply out of the question...The only thing I can do is try and strengthen my application with my GRE score. I already have volunteer experience at a great rehab hospital and my GPA is pretty much set in stone. I will definitely aim for Fall 2016. Here is hoping I do not need to...
  5. I just called Brooklyn College and was told no decision has been made on my application. However, I did not like the hesitation in the answer when it was given. :/
  6. I emailed the grad deputy. I was told, last week, they were still going through applications and giving interviews.
  7. Has anyone else not heard anything from Brooklyn College? My application portal still says my application was sent to the department for review. I hope this is not deja vu' from last year. I waited until late April for a rejection
  8. I went there for my undergraduate but in a different major. Extremely expensive but great professors!
  9. Yes, I am currently trying to get into grad school for SLP. I too would rather work 12-8p. I am thinking hospitals would have this shift.
  10. Great question! I work nights and would rather continue. I would imagine hospital SLP work the night shift. I am also maxed out so I am looking for financial help also. Definitely look at instate public colleges and universities. Many schools offer students graduate teacher assistantships. Also check out scholarships (FastWeb.com and Scholarships.com)
  11. Yes, I saw that too! It is much more appealing to the eye and easier to read.
  12. That's what I'd like to get to the root of understanding.
  13. I think you are in the wrong section. There is a section for those trying to get their Masters in Public Health. This is for people trying to get their Masters in Speech-Language Pathology. However, I would suggest for your to retake the GRE. Your score is rather low. Your GPA... is that your final GPA? Most graduate schools will not look at anyone with a overal GPA lower than a 3.0. Try getting your GPA up to a 3.0
  14. Yes, I saw this performance and loved it! As a minority, I have not had any luck getting into a program. I really have not had anyone say what you stated to me. However, in my non matriculated grad class, a student was shocked that I gave a presentation that received at perfect grade! She kept questioning me "you got an A?...you got an A? YES, I got an A! I wanted to ask her did she think I was not capable of A work?
  15. I wish I could apply to private universities and colleges. However with the amount of student loan debt I already have, it would just be a receipe for financial ruin. There is a misconception, in the African American community, that if you pronounce all your words correctly, you are talking white. This is something I dealt with all my life, especially as an undergraduate in college. I did my undergrad at a private university out in Long Island. I loved it because there was a bit of diversity.
  16. Your post just made feel like there truly is a discriminatory aspect in this field. HBCUs not admitting people of color that often? That is really strange. I can't believe people of color are not applying. I see them on a undergrad level in abundance. I am a post bacc student and took my prerequsites at Lehman College. I took grad courses as a non-matriculated student at Brooklyn College and was the only African-American student in BOTH classes.
  17. This is very true. I think where you are attending school is a factor also. I live in NYC. The melting pot of the world. LOL I just do not understand; why so few people of color are admitted on the grad level here? I had many people of color in my classes.
  18. Yes, people of color are a minority in graduate study. However, in SLP, the number is quite dispropronate to those who are studying the field on the undergraduate level. I took classes with an array of women of color, yet I was one of three women of color interviewed. The other two were hispanic women.
  19. To those who are of color, do you feel there is a discriminatory component in this field? I remember being interviewed and being the only person of color there. All, please feel free to respond
  20. I don't think so Interview is part of process.
  21. Hunter does interview. Brooklyn College has a few waves of interviews and acceptances. I spoke with them yesterday and was told they are still going through applications and giving interview dates. I'm not sure about Queens.
  22. The new grad deputy no longer allows students to take grad classes on a non matric basis. I was able to take two classes under the former grad deputy of the program. I'm not sure of other schools but Brooklyn students work hard and have busy schedule. I loved the classes and the school!
  23. I am guessing wait listed.
  24. On the very bottom of the application there should be a link with your decision
