It's a good sign! It means you're still being considered. Never a bad thing....
-
Both of these things. I was also a bit nervous about my GRE score. Now as the acceptances are rolling, I'm questioning the specificity of my personal statement, my writing sample, my GRE score, AND whether my undergrad professor's letter of recommendation was helpful or a waste of space. But then I remember that I have *11* applications out. So even if I have to hear no 10 times, all I need is 1 yes. Hang in there, guys. In the words of Tom Petty, the waiting is the hardest part.

How Are You Coping With The Torture Of Waiting???
SocInTheCity replied to PsycD's topic in Waiting it Out
Hi, I am living your life in Chicago. I used to love my job, but now that my eye is on the prize...there is no going back. I think I've decided that no matter what, I am going to leave my position in May/June. If I don't get in, I'll spend June-October addressing any weak spots. If I do get in, it will be my last months of freedom for 5-7 years. Good luck all! -
The first rejection was posted today. Whoever that was, you may be the first but you certainly won't be the last. Thanks for posting so people are aware that rejections are, indeed, going out with the acceptances. A January 8 UCLA acceptance? Anyone care to claim?

Schools are already making decisions?!?

Have you looked up the specific programs and schools you applied to? It should give you a pretty good idea of when they notified over the last 2-3 years. Good luck! -
3rd UCLA. Expect them to pour in tomorrow....
-
It's okay. I am sure your acceptance will be there in no time.
-
And I hate to bombard you with questions...but was the call from the department secretary or a faculty member? Thanks for sharing insight into the process.
-
That's great; congrats! I'm glad it's a real person so I can start to process this as a possible no if I don't hear soon.
-
Well, I looked and based on last year, it was a bunch of acceptances in one week, a bunch of declines in the next week, and then various mixed results until April. So until we know...we really don't know. GOOD LUCK!
-
Yeah, I just saw that. Am I the only UCLA person freaking out over here? Anyone else anxiously waiting with me?
-
@Pinoy, did you already check the dates for previous years for the departments you applied to? http://www.thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php?q=sociology&t=a&o=&pp=25 We can't REALLY start to freak out TOO bad yet .But I am feeling the same way. Give it a few more weeks....

Just when I think my refresh finger is going to wear out, I see Minnesota and I think "My first acceptance could be around the corner!" (Trying to stay positive!)
-
Totally understandable. Good luck to everyone as we continue to hit "refresh" over the next 30 days!

This. I also swing between "I'm going to be rejected 11 times" and "Well, there has to be at least ONE yes in there." -
What other schools did you apply to? UCLA and Stanford were to be among the first of mine to notify but I wasn't expecting either until 1/31 or 2/1, based on previous years.
-
If there were one or two more UCLAs, I'd start to get super freaked out. But I am just trying to stay positive and hope there are more coming!
-
I applied so now I'm having a heart attack. But I'd really like to see a few more to be sure that it's really starting to happen. Good luck everyone.
-
Did you guys see the UCLA accepted? Anyone care to claim it?
-
Agreed. Highly suspicious.

Equinox gym on one thread; Westin Hotels in another. Which makes me think it's linked to my email or search history.

Rutgers - when could I expect to hear back?
SocInTheCity replied to Mr. Wizard's topic in Waiting it Out
I think so....pretty sure its one of those "You're in as long as you don't do anything weird." Not really sure though. Only one of my schools calls it that. -
I actually had a GREAT dream last night that I got into my #1 choice and was shouting it from the rooftops. I woke up and had told so many people in the dream that I was slightly confused about whether or not it was real. Now I'll spend the next 48 hours hoping that this dream is a preview!

Sh*t people say when you are applying to grad school
SocInTheCity replied to Clou12's topic in Waiting it Out
I have been very public about my application process. I have worked at the same university for 7 years and nearly everyone knows that this is my application cycle. No pressure though. Ha ha. I did find it very helpful because I had a number of faculty members to review components of my application. Let's just hope it works out! Good luck all!
