  1. It's hard to tell because people don't always report what their subfield is.
  2. I'm in love with your cat! Sooo cute!
  3. I don't think it was 6 total. Apparently 5 linguistic anthroplogy people were accepted, so I'm sure more than 6 for the entire discipline.
  4. I'm so sorry. Hope you get some good news soon! You're great, and you deserve that
  5. Sounds like they forgot to send you your acceptance letter/email! Hehe certainly hope you get in, sounds like they really want you there
  6. I'm sorry. Are you waiting on any other news? Good luck!
  7. Some of them seem to not even bother sending out waitlist notifications and just leave students hanging. Looking at last year's UCSD results, they don't send out waitlist notifications, but then again, not every applicant comes to gradcafe. Good luck. I hope you hear some good news soon!
  8. Spectastic, I love your cats! I took this one of one of my cats last night, and I think it's worth sharing
  9. Sorry about that john! I hope you get some good news today. Also, does anyone want to claim the UCLA linguistic anthro acceptance? PM if you don't mind. Thanks!
  10. I got ESFJ. That was a really strange questionnaire...
  11. From what I've heard and read, people finish in 6-8 years, so it's definitely a long commitment. Also, universities out of the states usually require less coursework and go faster into fieldwork and writing portion of the PhD, so in that sense, it is possible to do it in a shorter amount of time. And llike mybattleship said, you can use your MA research as the ground work for yout PhD, so that could also shorten it.
  12. Sorry about the rejections folks! Sending everyone good vibes.
  13. Aww skylarking, I'm sorry you're stressed *hugs*. I hope you get some news (preferably good ones), so you can get some relief.
  14. Awww everyone is so nice, thank you! But I'm OK! Like you all said, I have great options, and I'm very thankful for them. I wish everyone good luck! I hope that the results page changes from red to green later today. It feels as if we were all stuck at a red light! And Forsaken, I hope you hear something soon! We're rooting for you!
  15. Rejection from UCLA, boo! But even though rejection sucks, at least I know this will make the decision process between the other schools easier. Also, last week I was comparing all the universities I applied to, and I figured out that UCLA had the least fit. I mean, I applied because I thought it was a good fit, but out of all the ones I applied to, UCLA had the least fit... I really thought I had a chance for many reasons, but oh well. Rejection sucks! Good luck everyone else!
  16. OMG, Sarah Bee! They are so adorable <3 How old are they?
  17. That sounds great! Congratulations on the job offer
  18. Well, let's just hope they understand that we need an outlet during these stressful times, and this is an online community where we can express ourselves and find support. We're excited and anxious about our future!
  19. DeafAudi! What a beautiful pup <3
  20. Haha yes! I get paranoid that they're reading everything we post.
  21. Hello anthroaf! I think you definitely have a very strong application! But I think others will agree with me that sometimes we just don't know what each university is looking for. First, each university is different, every professor is different, so it's hard to know what they want that specific application year. We also don't know what each university values more, or if they value everything the same, etc... Sometimes people have really great qualifications and they don't get accepted because their POI wasn't taking students, or because there was no funding, or you know, many other random reasons. It's just such a complicated process! Anyway, I think that with your qualifications and a good SOP and a strong proposed project then you really have a great chance of getting in! Good luck and don't get discouraged.
  22. What a long day...

  23. Well, it's their job to do them, so you don't have to get them anything. I think it's just a nice way to recognize their effort and to maintain that relationship for the future. And a thank you card should be enough! Someone in the anthropology forum said they're going to send each professor a mug from the university they end up at. I'm thinking of doing the same thing.
  24. I'm sorry! At least you won't have to deal with the unstable Atlanta weather (I know that's not much help, sorry!).
  25. I'm sure you'll hear soon! Good luck!
