Canadian Universities MSW. The waiting game 2014 admissions

You have to send in the letter that comes with the package in order to reject the offer. Congrats on UWO -

Everyone needs to stop panicking! They aren't sending the letters until April 7 so they may just be slowly going though the applicants and updating the system. It is WAY too early to assume that you are all rejected. Also, seeing nothing doesn't necessarily mean rejected, I have friends who saw nothing and they were waitlisted, which means there is still a chance. If for some reason you are rejected don't let it get you down. There were hundreds of applicants for 90 spots. Less than 20% of people got in so if you don't get in that definitely does not mean there is something wrong with you or that you are a loser, it just means that at this time there weren't enough spots for everyone. Try not to panic before you get the final answer. -

I wouldn't have any doubt that it is for real. During the advanced standing application period everyone who had an "invited" got an acceptance package. Everyone who had nothing were either waitlisted or rejected. Never heard of anyone getting an "invited" and not actually being in. -

Don't give up hope yet. If they aren't sending letters until the 7th they might still be going through their list of applicants and updating ROSI as they go. If not, you got into Laurier which is a great school! -

I'm currently doing my BSW at Waterloo. I find it a lot of work but certainly manageable. For our program you have classes 2 days a week and practicum 3 days a week throughout the whole program (Sept-June). In the fall and winter semester we have 3 courses plus the placement seminar which also has assignments. The second semester is just ending now (working on my last term paper) so I am looking forward to the third semester because it is only 2 classes plus practicum! -

Do you mean for the advance standing? I didn't think the 2 year was out yet. If you mean the advance standing we had until March 31 to accept or reject the offer. -

Wow, you've been through a lot! Don't give up hope yet, you might get off the wait list. If not, do you know where your application may be lacking? Could you take some courses to raise your GPA or volunteer more if you can't find a job in the field? I wouldn't give up completely. I have a friend who applied for 3 cycles before she was admitted. Wishing the best for you! -

I wouldn't start calling for an update yet because the website says you will know by mid-April and it is only March 31. Personally I would wait at least another week before I would start looking for updates. Hopefully they get the responses out early like they did for the advanced standing! -

When I logged onto ROSI it was just there on the first page. I didn't have to go anywhere else. -

I am doing the Social Justice and Diversity stream. Out of the 7 of us that I know are going (there might be a couple more, people that I am not as close to) I am the only doing that stream, 3 are doing gerontology and I think the other 3 are doing health and mental health as well. Are you going on April 7? -

Don't worry, ours is not a group for the whole MSW class, it's just for those of us who are already cohorts in our BSW program. -

For my BSW it was discussed at the September orientation. I have my own little facebook group of 7 students from my BSW program I'm currently in that will be going to UofT in the fall. -
Struggling to make a decision! Please weigh in.
smpalesh replied to Lifesaver's topic in Decisions, Decisions
Definitely school number 2. And can I just say I cannot believe the cost of a social work program in the US! I am doing my MSW at University of Toronto this fall and my tuition for the year will be under $10,000 (and UofT is the number 1 school in Canada, also very high on national and international rating lists) -

Share a little more about your social work interests and goals and I can give you some more input. -
To be honest, it sounds like you are focusing more on the brand that anything else. If you can live with the fact that you can reapply next year and still not get in, and possibly get in nowhere, then go for it. Otherwise I would be happy you got into what sounds like a great program and worry less about the "brand name" of your school.

Stop emailing them! Think about the number of applications they have. Then think about how many nervous emails they are getting. Then think about very annoying that must be to them when they are trying to focus on getting through the applications. You will find out when you find out and there is nothing you can do about. I know waiting sucks but you need to just wait until they contact you.

Being that the advanced standing was sent out early (March 3) I doubt it will be 3 more weeks. Hopefully it is next week for you guys. Waiting is agony! -

No, I have never been a UofT student and I had a ROSI account before I was accepted. You need to go to your application page and go to Profile Update and find your student number. Then you login and set up your password. -

From what I have heard they offer $4000 to the top 25 but that is out of both the 2 year and advanced standing entry class. So 25 out of 230. For grades I was told you need at least an 88% average to have a chance at that. As for other scholarships/bursaries your best bet is to check their website - http://www.socialwork.utoronto.ca/students/finance.htm -

Don't go by what that says because mine said Under Review for 2.5 weeks after I got my acceptance letter. They don't seem to update those very fast. Your best bet is to check on ROSI periodically. I don't know how early they update it. I check it on March 4 and it said invited and I got my acceptance package on March 6. But they letters were sent out March 3 so it may not be updated until the send the letters. On the good side the advanced standing notifications were sent out earlier than normal so hopefully it will be the same for the 2 year. -
Anyone already made a (formal) decision?
smpalesh replied to artichoke203's topic in Decisions, Decisions
I am in Canada so we don't do the April 15 thing. I have formally accepted my offer from UofT and will be taking myself off the waitlist for the other university I applied to. It feels good to know the next year is officially decided! -

For those on the waiting list for UofT advanced standing, all our acceptance letters were sent out on March 3 and we were all told that we had until March 31 to send our deposit to hold our spot. So after March 31 you will likely start hearing about spots coming available. Hope this helps! -

For the advanced standing at Laurier all the acceptance emails were sent out the same day, the rejection letters were also sent then (by mail so received a couple days later) and waitlist emails were sent 4-5 days after the acceptance emails. -
Accepted... But Department Not Responding to Inquiry
smpalesh replied to Stressica's topic in Decisions, Decisions
In the future can I recommend that you try phoning people rather than rely on email. Maybe it is just because I am an older student (34) but I am really surprised by the number of questions I see on here from people wondering what to do if they don't get a response to an email. Pick up the phone and call, JMHO.
