  1. Congratulations!! That's fantastic!
  2. Thanks a lot for doing what I've been too much of a wuss to do! It'll be nice to know if we have some kind of timeline. I was waiting until closer to mid-March to email places and be like "okay, seriously, what's the hold up?"
  3. Still no word over here from Madison. Either they got a ton of applicants and they're really doing this in waves or I'm on some (un)official wait list. Either way, now I'm just getting confused. Hoping UBC is soon, too.
  4. UC school emails (at least the automated ones) tend to go out around midnight PST.
  5. Exactly on the border between ENFJ and INFJ. Ambiverts unite
  6. University of Washington does. I took a theory class with a lot of people working on basically the same things as you.
  7. Those peanut butter fudge and salted caramel flavours are going to be my undoing
  8. I wish I knew. I got an email this morning reminding me to submit my FLAS app by tomorrow, but that's all I've heard.
  9. Thanks I've got an interview next week sometime to discuss logistics of an internship in my industry overseas. If that works out (and even if it doesn't), I may get a full-time position with them next year. So I'm really not bummed if this season doesn't work out for me. I'm actually kind of more excited about living the expat life again and getting more on-the-ground experience. And I've always wanted to live in the country to which I may be moving
  10. There's my Toronto rejection! I could be 0 for 2 today!
  11. Sorry, dude I very likely will be joining you soon (if this is like it was when Michigan was sending out acceptances/rejections).
  12. Crying. Now if only I could be like Hermione and have an owl with a letter from a top school for which I didn't even know I was qualified show up and tell me how much they wanted me. Someday my owl will come.
  13. Robin Williams was in Awakenings with Robert DeNiro Robert DeNiro was in American Hustle with Jennifer Lawrence Olivia Newton John, Ben Affleck
  14. Oh, man. I grew up in SoCal during a few droughts and never remember it being bad enough that they instituted fines or anything like that. The worst that I remember was rolling blackouts the summer of 00 or 01. Good luck, CA friends
  15. I absolutely feel your pain. I just want to get this over with and have some idea about my future (and be in a better position to set up my Plan B (wow smiley fail)). These past couple months have felt like they've gone on for ages and that distant horizon containing all my expectations is getting ever further away. The wanting comes in waves.
  16. Ian McKellen was in The Lord of the Rings films with Elijah Wood Elijah Wood was in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind with Jim Carrey Jim Carrey was in Anchorman with Steve Carrell Steve Carrell was in Knocked Up with Seth Rogen and James Franco Seth Rogen and James Franco were in This is the End with Jonah Hill Ken Watanabe, Simon Pegg
  17. You might as well. My experience has been 50/50: my current uni, I applied for admission and didn't apply for FLAS, thinking, "oh, I'll never get in there anyway, what's the point" and then whoooops! For PhD, I ended up getting rejected from the one place where I remembered to apply for FLAS (the other, I swear they changed the deadline on me), but it can't hurt. It'll take maybe an hour out of your day to fill out the forms.
  18. Daisy: calls for papers usually go out about three to four months before a conference (except national conferences, those are way in advance). If you're interested, ask your advisor(s) about where you might submit. All the ones I know require you to be in a grad program and I don't know if you're in undergrad or grad. I presented at the national conference on undergrad research my last semester of undergrad to beef up my application (also it was being held 4 hours from me, which was a bonus). There's also always the possibility of national conferences. A couple buddies in undergrad presented at AAA one year.
  19. I know University of Washington does: http://depts.washington.edu/anthweb/graduate/MPH-PhD Pretty sure that's what someone in my theory class from last quarter was doing. And lucky for you that next year, they'll be admitting for the sociocultural track again, if that's what you're looking to do.
  20. That's super helpful, gradcat! Thank you again!
  21. I cant give you anything but my gratitude, but I'd definitely appreciate it, as well c:
  22. And when you get in touch with POI, don't be afraid to ask them if they know of others who do the same thing you want to do. Even if it's in a different region, the POI may still be interested in the theoretical part of your project and you can have your regional specialist be in another department.
  23. My status also changed this morning, but I've been waiting for rejections to come in the post since the first round of acceptances went out. It takes forever for letters to get to/from Canada (seriously, I send/receive things from Japan and Korea faster than Canada), so we'll just have to see. I've been kind of hoping that their waiting this long meant I was at least still in the running for something. Who knows, though, maybe they just take ages to update their system.
  24. I would definitely say don't email them. I know the History department was crystal clear about applicants not emailing them about decisions, and while that may just be departmental policy, it's better not to risk it. Their decisions have to be this week. I'm so sorry I'm probably going to be in the same boat soon, and it's not a good place to be. We're all here if you need anything, even just to commiserate.
