  1. This is a section from my acceptance letter: "The deadline for deciding if you will attend the school is April 15. However, I will need to know by noon on March 4 whether or not you plan to accept the tuition-credit scholarship offer." Obviously I'm not going to reject the funding and still attend the school. Also, a phone call later clarified that accepting the funding DOES imply that I'm accepting admission. So basically, the April 15th deadline means nothing and I have to decide by March 4th. This is convenient for them but inconvenient for everybody else, including the admissions committees from all of my other schools whom I'll be contacting soon. What's the deal? Is this common?

  3. Still haven't heard from three of my top schools... It's a different flavor of torture now. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  5. find Unfortunately, the cat consumed all glory of the moon and stars. It gave him severe anxiety, but also he received the power to fly. A joy. Suddenly...Bees! They flew around, jealous, plotting murder, arson, etc. They were searching for hundreds of floating wildebeest. These evil bees converged into a mega bee! Zooming fiercely throughout the glen, until they could find

  8. Harvard has already sent out some rejections for ScD Epi. I can't tell if that makes me more or less nervous.
  9. I'm not sure what's the basis for your dejection here. I think the theme of this thread is that if you're not officially rejected, there's still a chance.
  10. It probably doesn't matter much either way; it wouldn't be rude to wait to respond until you've made a decision about whether or not to attend. Personally, I'd probably only contact them if you have some questions about their program.
  11. It's the final week in February and I've only heard from 2 of 6 schools. I think I've gone through the stages of grief at least twice now. Denial -- "Any school would be lucky to have me; I'm a qualified applicant!" Anger -- "Why the hell haven't I heard from anybody yet? I'm a qualified applicant!" Bargaining -- "I don't care about the particular school/research anymore; I just want to get in somewhere. Maybe I should email all of my POIs..." Depression -- "Silence means rejection... I know it. My career is over." Acceptance -- "You know, I've always wanted to be a professional photographer..." I GOT ON A WAIT LIST! Denial -- "Any school would be lucky to have me..."
  12. I'm in the same boat. Four out of six schools haven't gotten back to me. Two of those schools (Harvard, Hopkins) have already sent out acceptances and rejections; the other two (Michigan, UIC) haven't made any decisions as far as I know. Of course we're applying for different programs, but I just wanted to let you know you're not the only one

  14. In case you're not already aware, there are a ton of global health organizations in the Seattle area... Gates Foundation, PATH, World Vision, Health Alliance International, etc. Most of them have direct connections with UW. Obviously New York City has plenty of organizations too, but the global health network out here in Seattle is pretty vibrant. (My wife works for World Vision.) Edit: Actually my post wouldn't be complete without mentioning how beautiful the city is. It's on the Puget Sound and -- on a clear day -- you can see the Cascade Mountains to the east and Olympic Mountains to the west. If you're into hiking at all, as home to the headquarters of REI, Seattle is basically the urban hiking Mecca of the United States IMHO.

"In mathematics, the Cantor function, named after Georg Cantor, is an example of a function that is continuous, but not absolutely continuous. It is also referred to as the Devil's staircase." ...
