  1. I think OISE just mails the results, but if you're a current UofT undergrad and have access to ROSI you can just check your registration status there. It usually changes before you receive the letter from what I've heard.
  2. I had emailed two of the profs before applying and basically got the same reply, that they'd be happy to talk about working together if I got accepted to the program. After the interview, I could easily see myself working with any of the faculty there. They're all engaged in interesting research and seem like warm, dedicated supervisors. The way they explained it is that they hold a thesis meeting with all of the students during the first couple weeks of the program to go over the research available in the department and align people with supervisors.
  3. Yeah, it's a shame to be a slave to the dollar but after my undergrad debt I'll do whatever it takes to avoid adding on to the pile haha.
  4. I'd imagine it's hard being a student in a brand new program like that. There are enough unknowns in grad school as it is haha.
  5. Syedahum, do you mind saying where you're doing your MPsy in counselling? How have you found the training so far?
  6. I'm strongly considering the doctorate. As long as I feel like I've found a good research fit and could see myself continuing on, then I'd definitely want to apply for it.
  7. This is the first time for me. And I'm reeeeeally glad I have my UWO acceptance because there's no way I could go through this emotional rollercoaster ever again. Honestly, it's not even like UWO is a safety school for me. I loved the faculty when I had my interview there and the school has a great rep. The only thing that would make me choose OISE over UWO is the guaranteed minimum funding package and the fact that you come out of the MA ready to apply for psychological associate status with the CPO.
  8. I didn't get in touch with the profs based on OISE's recommendation. They said they based their decisions on applications alone and that profs receive so many inquiries from propsective students that they see it as an annoyance. That's definitely not the case at other schools, but I figured I'd heed their advice - I hope I made the right decision. Syedahum - I'll PM you the info. I probably posted too much identifying info publicly already.
  9. I'm considering looking for a cryogenic freezing service and hoping that we discover a method for safely unfreezing me by Friday next week.
  10. Yeah, I'd imagine it would be pretty hard for OISE to give individualized feedback on what could be done to improve applications considering the number of applications they get. It's a shame, because that would definitely be valuable information.
  11. Sounds like you have amazing qualifications for the M.Ed! I know a couple people who've been through the program and they say that counselling experience is the largest determining factor in the application once you've made the GPA cutoff.
  12. Don't give up hope at all! There are so many variables in the admissions process, and a great statement of intent counts for a lot. And it's rare for people applying to an MA to have really great counselling experience, so congrats on that. Here's hoping we're all clutching our acceptance letters and laughing at our crazy worrying come the end of next week.
  13. Pfft, you haven't seen my statement of intent. Pretty sure I botched it nicely. Also, not entirely sure I have the "Biological Bases of Behaviour" course requirement filled, because I only took Physiology and Psychology of Emotion for an upper year course in that category so it depends how they categorize that one. Also, the million other things that could go wrong. Can you tell I've been sitting here sweating bullets for the last month or so?
  14. So it seems like we're all being equally neurotic about our chances at OISE. What do you all think of sharing qualifications so we know what some of the other applicants' CV's look like? It will either scare us all to death or give us some hope, either way. Since I suggested it, I'll start: UofT Psychology Research Specialist Degree Last 10.0 Credits - 3.91 Subject GPA - 3.92 CGPA - 3.73 (but the marks that dragged it down were from 2004... I took some time off and came back a changed student, so I'm hoping they take this into consideration) Research experience: undergrad thesis in social psychology, NSERC USRA recipient last year spent on a full-time summer lab manager spot, 2 other RA positions Counselling experience: a year at CAMH in the schizophrenia crisis unit, and 2 years as an intake counsellor for a private clinical psych practice.
  15. Likewise. I just got a reply from Todd saying that they are almost done the application review and they hope to mail out decisions soon. Despite the fact that someone's already posted their acceptance, I have hope that different profs may have different thoughts on contacting students ahead of the official acceptance. I don't know, maybe I'm holding out false hope. Either way, good luck to everyone else still waiting!
  16. A friend of mine was accepted to the 2 year program at UofT last year with absolutely no directly social work related experience. She taught gymnastics for years and drew compelling connections between this work and social work in the application, and had a lot of great research experience combined with a stellar transcript. They definitely do look at applications holistically, so don't give up hope.
  17. Hmmmmm, someone posted in the results that they were accepted by their POI for the MA Counselling program but turned down the offer. If whoever that was would be generous enough to PM me their POI, I'd reeeeeally appreciate it.
  18. Having your POI personally come to your door to deliver your letter of rejection and laugh in your face for having the audacity to even apply. Also, you realize suddenly that you just opened the door in your underwear. Your soiled underwear. FRESHLY soiled.
  19. EDIT: mistaken double post. I guess that's worse than getting rejected too...
  20. I've recently been accepted to an MA in Counselling Psychology program (at UWO) that would qualify me for registration as Certified Member with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). But, things are looking promising for me being accepted to another MA in Counselling and Clinical Psychology program (OISE) that would qualify me for registration as a Psychological Associate with the College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO). I've volunteered with a psychologist's practice for awhile now, and I know from doing intake that quite a few extended health coverage providers only cover the services of a registered psychologist. I'm wondering if anybody knows if that coverage extends to psychological associates, because according to the CPO website there is supposed to be no difference in range of practice between the two designations after a psychological associate goes through 4 years of post-masters supervised practice. I'm only interested in becoming a masters-level practitioner, at least for now, so the prospect of getting my doctorate isn't on my radar. I'd imagine having your services covered by extended health plans would make running an independent private practice much easier after my four years of supervised practice as a psychological associate. I've been calling insurance companies and trying to get in touch with the CPO, but I've been getting some conflicting answers. Does anybody in the field have any idea how this works? I was also wondering if there's a difference between CCPA and CPO registyration in terms of job prospects immediately after I come out of grad school. Is finding employment as a psychological associate realistic? Thanks in advance for any help!
  21. From what I've seen, it seems like the majority of counselling psych programs DO have interviews. Which would make sense to me, considering the extremely interpersonal nature of the field. I know that when I went for my UWO interview, I came out with a lot more certainty that the program was right for me. OISE was my top choice before that, but now that I've seen what a great fit UWO is, it would be hard to decide on OISE instead (even when they have a much better funding package). I guess what I'm saying is that interviews give the programs another opportunity to sell themselves to qualified applicants... not that I'm horrifically in demand just yet or anything, what with my whopping one acceptance.
  22. Has anybody who applied for the 2 year program at UofT heard back yet, or have they only contacted people who applied for advanced standing?
  23. Yeah it seems kind of surprising to me too. Not just from the perspective of the school wanting to screen potential students, but as a student I think it's important to have the chance to meet POI's and current grad students face-to-face to get a feel for the program.
  24. Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I find it bizarre because past years' results show that they contacted people for interviews in late February. I'm debating calling the department to check on the status of my application.
  25. Just got my phone acceptance from University of Western Ontario for their MA in Counselling Psychology! They called me back the day after my interview, and they'll be sending official acceptances by email next week. I'm like... head over heels ecstatic about this acceptance. The program seemed great just based on what I read online, but after going for the interview I knew I'd found a program whose culture I could easily fit into. Unfortunately funding is still an issue for me so I'm going to wait to find out if I get into OISE and then compare the offers from both if I'm that lucky. It's reeeeally tempting to just accept Western's offer outright though.
