  1. NSCAD? They have some good folks in their Art History and Critical Studies department but I don't know if they are involved in the MFA program.
  2. You might want to post this question in the anthro section.
  3. I'm reading Moby Dick its pretty rad. You cant go wrong with Mr Melville.
  4. My brother teachers ESL at the university level in Hong Kong with an MA in Classics. It's not lucrative. Your options are probably limited to drug dealing and gun running.
  5. I was thinking about applying to OSU's Cultural Studies program but changed my mind as my proposed project solidified.
  6. It's not just you. Posthumanism also includes the growing importance of non-human animals in the humanities and social sciences. Shukin's Animal Capital would be an example of this. Transhumanism seems like sci fi fear of finitude to me.
  7. Pessimism, competition and black coffee keep me on task and in the fight.
  8. I've enjoyed listening to these talks from Unruly Creatures: The Art and Politics of the Animal. http://backdoorbroadcasting.net/2011/06/unruly-creatures-the-art-and-politics-of-the-animal/ You might find them useful.
  9. I'm interested in livestock production and applying to U Chicago. They have some cool looking Animal Studies workshops. Here's a link: http://cas.uchicago.edu/workshops/animalstudies/ You might try departments that are interested in social movements if you have inclinations toward studying animal rights/lib politics. This could mesh nicely with an interest in vegetarianism.
  10. I'm applying to UChicago. I'd like to work with Masco and Rajan but that aint gonna happen. Plus Postone is in their history department. That would be a juggernaut of a committee. I haven't even thought about my CV yet. I have one from my last round of apps 3 years ago I'll probably polish it up a bit. I feel silly applying anywhere with all the competition out there. It seems like everyone and their dog has an MA from an Ivy League. All I have is a broken spirit and some bad tattoos.
  11. What type of foods? What type of animals?
  12. 12 days till my test. I took the free Manhattan test and scored 161V/148Q. Should I be worried?
  13. Powerprep II why dont you f'n work.
  14. 161V/ 148Q with the free Manhattan test. I broke 300 which is all I wanted. Anyone else having problems getting Power Prep to work on an older mac?
  15. Power Prep II and IPA.

  16. Just ask. I asked my undergrad thesis adviser from 2006 after being out of the loop for years. It was not a problem whatsoever. Just ask and give your former prof an update on your research, goals, etc.
  17. If you PM a copy of it I can take a look. I'm also writing an SOP for Anthro.
  18. You're very positive.
  19. I would narrow down and define what you mean by meditation or be prepared to engage with the variety of techniques that are out there in the world. Meditation exists in Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity and probably most other religious traditions. Within Buddhism, which I know more about than the other religions, there is a plethora of techniques and worldviews. Mahasi noting is different than Shikantaza which is different than Dzogchen. Even with a specific tradition like Japanese Soto Zen different lineages approach practice differently. I would focus in on a specific practice or lineage rather than meditation broadly. However, meditation broadly considered is implicitly if not explicitly phenomenological. Within the Buddhist tradition there is a lot of material on Zen, Vipassana and the various Tibetan traditions; one of the three might be a good place to start. The writings of Francisco Varela might also be useful since he was influenced by Husserl, Merleau-Ponty, neuroscience and Tibetan Buddhism. I sit zazen so if your looking for someone to interview just PM me.
  20. Anyone else applying this cycle with an interest in posthumanism?
  21. Anyone else intimidated by all the competition out there in the world?
  22. I have been in the past, two times even.
  23. I'm going to bomb the quant too. One of my LORs suggested getting diagnosed with a "numerical learning disability". I think its a silly idea but I'm mulling it over. With two MAs I'm sure your apps will shine.
