I GOT INTO BERKELEY!!! No funding info

Omg I just got accepted to Cornell with full funding + summers !! So excited! 

I GOT ACCEPTED AT PENN STATE!!! I LOVE THEM AND IT WAS GREAT AND I'M DEFINITELY GOING TO GRAD SCHOOL THIS FALL 

I've been repeating the same thing over and over in my head ALL MORNING: It's a new week. It's a new week. It's a new week. Fingers crossed for (good) results to start flooding in!

The anxiety has reached new heights! Complete radio silence from the five other schools that I've applied to. Argh.

Hi!  I'm currently a PhD student at UVA, and while I'm not sure about when interview invitations are going out, I can tell you that our recruitment weekend for finalists will be going on February 22-24.  When I applied to the program, the process went like this: I participated in a phone interview during the first week of February letting me know I was a semifinalist, and was notified shortly thereafter that I was a finalist and invited to the recruitment weekend.  The recruitment weekend is an event where ~10 finalists spend three days in Charlottesville living with current grad students, interview with faculty members, and attend a couple different parties at the homes of faculty members.  It can be a stressful experience, but ultimately it's a great way to find out if you'll be a good fit in the department. 
In any case, if you've reached the semifinal stage you should be hearing from the department soon about a phone interview.  If you make it through the phone interview, you'll be a finalist and you'll be invited to visit Charlottesville.  If that's the case, shoot me a PM - I'd be happy to show you around town!

Don't put so much pressure on yourself. Yale, Berkeley and Harvard are three of the most difficult schools to get into in the USA. Not getting in doesn't necessarily mean you are not good enough, it just means that this cycle they were looking for something different. Sometimes faculty alternate who gets a student, or funding is tight so they admit less than they wanted. If you don't end up with a successful application, I would recommend spending the next year getting a job or internship in your field as to get experience and possible publication credits.

Just got an email for a skype interview at Brown with POI. Had basically written this application off since I saw other interviews go out last week. My subfield is linguistic anthro. They want to talk to me tomorrow! I am so scared...

Got an email for an interview- MIT! I'm floored and SO excited!!

POI contacted me after Penn State interview and said it went well! She said they have a site I can jump on with my project idea! Next week/week after, I find out if I'm a finalist. Wooo!

If you're into Queer Theory, consider reading Chelsea Blackmore's work on queer theory and archaeology. It's awesome. I also just finished a book that came out this year called "As We Have Always Done" by Jeanne Simpson.

Just got an email saying I am "high on the funding priority list" for Georgia Geography (archaeology prof)! Not exactly sure what that means, but I'm taking it as a good sign! 

Apparently I'm on the shortlist for University of Chicago Geophysics? I didn't apply to Geophysics, but apparently that's where I fit better...That's cool. They're bringing me for a funded visit next month. 

There's a reason many people take two cycles to find a decent offer - there's lots of competition, especially for programs that fully fund all their students.  When I applied last year, the DGS at the program I ended up at told me they received about 75 applications.  They accepted six people, and we ended up with a cohort of four people.  Ultimately, I think it's best not to think about the numbers game and just try to control what you can control.  You will get the right offer if you keep at it!

You could also see if you could present the job with the PhD offers and see if they could do something comparable. I’m not sure how that would work but you could see if they would so a special admissions type thing. Just a thought 

Thanks! Yeah, I would - I’ve had a few before the application was due. I think it helps because it can narrow down who is actually interested in working with the prof or who is eager to actually meet even if it was just a skype interview. 
UMass is definitely top 3, especially after my interview. 

Hahahaha, mine is binge watching the X-files in preparation for the new season, and trying to keep my house clean. Only one of those two things is working...
