  1. Thanks!! Good luck to you as well!
  2. Where in California are you looking to go? I've lived in Southern California my whole life so let me know if I can offer you any advice regarding where to live. It isn't as expensive as NYC, but california apartments are still pretty pricey, especially if you're in orange county or los angeles.
  3. I haven't heard back from them either so I'm also assuming the worst. I'm so tired of getting rejections.
  4. All of the people in my post-bacc were like total Type A personalities so A LOT of us had lists and spreadsheets. Even our professors were like omg, you guys need to calm down a little. haha But kudos to you for being organized!
  5. I second everyone's comments about living alone the first year and then potentially finding a roommate in the program for the following year. That will give you more than enough time to feel everybody out and give you a sense of who they are. I've never lived alone either, but I tend to value my quiet time and would probably be annoyed if someone were being loud while I was trying to study.
  6. You're getting crap for being prepared??! Don't listen to them. I kept pushing back the GRE and basically had to end up taking it during my post-bacc and I was very overwhelmed with all of that combined with work, applications, etc. I made an entire binder full of information for each school including stats, program details, contact information, etc. and I would have died without it. Don't worry about what others think b/c you'll have the last laugh when you're prepared and they're stressing out later this year.
  7. I love how people have no qualms about using stats to generalize facts about white people, but when we do the same we are labeled as racists. You're taking statistics about a given race and using them to assume that all of us fall into those categories. Blanket statements are problematic because it pigeonholes people into certain stereotypes. So according to you I have an easier time getting a job? That's kind of ironic considering I live in a city where white people are the minority and about 75% of my coworkers are people of color. I have an easier time getting an apartment? My credit is less than stellar so I live with my friend who's Mexican (I'm not being racist, she really is Mexican) and had no problem getting a lease in her name. I'm less likely to be pulled over and given a ticket? Again, not true. I was pulled over in January of this year and given a ticket. I realize the possibility that I could be considered an anomaly, but I'm basing my opinions on my experiences. With all of that being said, I'm not naive. I'm not blind to the social injustices of the world. I know racism is alive and well. The point I'm trying to get across is that based on my experiences, I think that my accomplishments and merits should be looked at on an equal level with other applicants. I would not want to get a job based solely on the fact that I'm a woman when there are men with higher stats so I don't believe other groups should expect preferential treatment either. Schools and businesses that accept and hire people based on a predetermined quota are missing out on a large chunk of highly qualified applicants. Let's take race out of the equation for a second. Would you want to be rejected from a school because they need to include 5 Atheists even though you are more qualified than these people? People that don't fall under these categories will automatically be excluded and I'm sorry, but that's not right. You don't have to agree with me, but these are my own personal beliefs and opinions.
  8. Me too! Although we should know our fate from both of these schools by next week
  9. Man, that sucks!! Did you already receive funding from another school?
  10. Well they might not have that designated deadline, but you'd think there would be some sort of a general consensus among schools to have them all done by a certain time. It's kind of crazy to me that people are expected to make life-altering decisions in sometimes as little as a week.
  11. You say that you don't want to live in a world where there is a false sense of equality, but how does giving people privileges solely based on their race, ethnicity, or gender promote equality? If anything, it just creates a bigger bias. Furthermore, minorities are not the only ones that have limited opportunities. I am a white woman that grew up in a low SES household and the first one in my family to attend college. I put myself through college by working my butt off and now because of the color of my skin I should be held to higher standards than the guy or girl sitting next to me because it is assumed that I had access to more resources or opportunities? Sorry, but that's kind of ridiculous.

  13. Those are still very impressive stats!! Thanks so much for your response! I'm hoping to still get accepted into one of the programs this cycle, but if not I plan on beefing up my resume and improving my stats in hopes of getting some sort of funding next time around.
  14. For those of you who have received a reasonable amount of funding, do you know what the criteria is? Is it a combination of high undergrad GPA, high GRE scores, and extracurriculars? Or is there something special you mentioned in your SOP (like research, unique experiences, etc.) that might have influenced the decision? Just curious...thanks!
  15. That's crazy!! How the heck are people supposed to decide and make a deposit by April 15th if they still haven't heard from a handful of schools? These schools need to get it together!
  16. true crimes
  17. SJSU doesn't even send theirs out til the last possible moment. According to the results page, many students had to call in mid-April to find out their status.
  18. Try going on the results page for that school and see if any of the students posted any waitlist admission offers. And you can always call the school and see if they will tell you where you are ranked. If you're in the top tier you might still have a chance. Good luck!!
  19. I think I might have made that mistake as well. I think it's good to look at both stats, but I wish I had paid greater attention to class size.
  20. I have nothing valuable to contribute to this conversation other than to say...THIS MONTH IS TAKING FOREVER!!
  21. hazel eyes
  22. Well I was referring to Portland State having double the amount. According to EdFind, UO only received 142 applications last year, but that seems super low to me so who knows? I don't even know if the stats on there are accurate. lol
  23. No problem!! And I too have been spending waaaaaay too much time on grad cafe. At least these forums kill some time and prevent me from checking my email every hour.
  24. Hey guys, I just emailed both schools and was told that the WWU review committee is meeting March 17th (next week...ahhhh) and notifications should begin to go out shortly after that and WSU plans to send out decisions the week of 3/23-3/27. Hope that helps any of you that are just as anxious as I am. Best of luck to you all!
