@Arcanelady27 @NorcalSLP I had several extracurriculars in high school, but I didn't continue them into college since my undergrad school didn't have them. You can't have a marching band if you don't have a football team, etc. Otherwise, all my extracurriculars in college were entertainment-based and not resume-building-based. I did one internship at an elementary school with the SLP there, and wrote about it in my SOP I think. I have no idea how my LORs were; one professor (whom I have had 5 times over the entire course of my college career and knows me very well) got all of her LORs turned in in November. The other professor from that school (whom I have had a few times and supervised my internship) turned in her LORs at 6AM on the day of the deadline, except for CSDCAS ones, which she turned in on February 1 and completely disregarded the deadline of January 15 for Pittsburgh. My third LOR writer I had four times for Spanish classes a few years ago, and he finished one letter in November and the rest in late January/early February, also disregarding the Pittsburgh deadline. Pitt only looked at my application after I asked them why I never received confirmation for my completed application. They are also the only school who has given me something besides a rejection so far. I have 9 hours of undocumented shadowing hours, since I didn't know how to record them properly. My school barely had a linguistics department, so I have almost no research experience. My first and only job has been part-time in a fast-food restaurant. I could retake some classes. I did very badly in one class last summer due to lingering emotional effects of the death of a friend. And, @NorcalSLP, my mother's point wasn't to expand my field of schools, but to expand the number of fields i'm applying to. She thinks getting a teaching degree will somehow help me get into a CSD degree.

I am currently in my last two required classes of the prereq program. There's one that is optional since most schools don't require it yet. I'm going to probably get B's in these two classes, because reasons. So there's no hope of 3.5GPA for me.
-
Are you on mobile? My stats are in my signature. I'll still post them here though. I don't have my prereq GPA in my sig though. Out of Field Undergrad GPA: 3.07 Post-grad Prerequisites GPA: 3.28 GRE: 162V, 152Q, 3.5W

This is my first year applying. And my mom's logic is "grounded" in the fact that my dad has two business-related master's, so getting one made getting the other easier in his case.
-
My favorite school said no, via a physical letter in the mail. I have one more school to hear from and if I don't get an acceptance, I'm stuck in waitlist hell. Everything is terrible and I want to cry.
-
I got Penn State's letter in the mail today. They don't want me either. What kind of school wastes real postage and paper on a rejection? Ugh. My last hope is JMU, and if I don't get in there then I'm stuck in Pitt's waitlist hell. My mom is outraged at how selective these programs are, and is insistent that getting a teacher's master's would help me get into this program next time around, because she doesn't know how it actually works. She's also trying to convince me to "widen my field" or something equally stupidly phrased, give up on this, and do something else instead if this doesn't work out this year. Thanks, mom...and thanks, Penn State. I want to cry but I have to go to work in 30 minutes and I don't want to show up with awkward puffy face.

Anyone else still waiting on first acceptance?
Puffer Fish replied to SpeechieM's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
As seen in my signature: Applied to 6 schools, currently rejected from 4, on one waitlist, and waiting for one's response (should hear sometime this week). Penn State's was the one that stung the most, partially cause they were my favorite and partially because they sent a real, physical letter to say 'we don't want you'. My mom is outraged at how selective these schools are, and it would amuse me if it wasn't so true. -
Penn State finally responded to my email yesterday, letting me know that they were "putting the letters together and they would be sent out today". The wording makes me think postal mail... And after looking at the few-and-far-between results for my program on this site, it looks like acceptances are almost exclusively notified via post while rejections/waitlists are notified exclusively by email. So, for once, here's hoping I DON'T hear for a few days and that I get something in the mail. If I don't get in here, I have one more hope (JMU notifies on Monday the 14th) before I'm trapped in waitlist hell.
-
Penn State said they're going to start sending out results as of yesterday, and judging by the few and far between results postings on this site, it sounds like they notify acceptances via postal mail and rejections/waitlists via email. So, for once, here's hoping I DON'T hear for a few days and that I get something in the mail! Aaaaaaaah the suspense is killing me.

I got rejected from my first choice today. I'm a lot less upset about it than I thought I would be. Maybe that means it was't really my first choice after all? Either way, now my first choice is just gonna be the better of the 3 schools who haven't given me a definitive answer yet. Assuming I get any acceptances at all...

Good news on my end! Pittsburgh put me on their wait list, only 8 days after they realized they needed to look at my application! ("You were 2 weeks past the deadline, but we didn't look at why...oh, it was 'cause of your recommenders being late? Yeah we'll try to get to it") Maryland told me I'll hear back sometime next week or so; someone else said JMU will announce by the 18th; Penn State hasn't responded to my email. But still, having timelines and one nonrejection is good enough for me right now. I have hope again!
-
Good news from my day! I'm on Pittsburgh's waitlist. Which is more than I expected since they didn't even look at my application until 8 days ago (recommenders didn't submit until 2 weeks late and the school didn't bother to look at WHY my app was late, just ignored it until I questioned it). I really, really, REALLY hope I get in here if I don't get in anywhere else. Maryland said I should be hearing back next week(ish), someone else said JMU will tell us around the 18th, and Penn State didn't respond to my email. Progress is being made. I have hope again, and this weekend is gonna be the looooonngest weekend ever.

Nope! I received a rejection email from WVU, and had to log in to the portal to see the rejection from UVA. Everyone else has been radio silent, except for Pittsburgh, who responded to the email I sent them, and informed me that they may not even view my application since it was completed two weeks late...though they would try since they saw that it was due to my recommenders failing to turn things in on time. Maryland doesn't do interviews for my program, and I don't know if any of the others do.

Luckily there's two professors that teach it. If you want to know who I don't recommend, I'll message you her name so you can avoid this pain, lol.
-
Speech Science (with the WORST professor ever, she doesn't answer questions and her directions are always vague. I should have had an A on an assignment but some of her instructions were vague, so I didn't submit a picture in the right place and got a C instead.), and Phonological Disorders. If I get into UofMaryland I'll have to take the Neuro class, but I don't know if I'll take it with Longwood or just in person at Maryland. I'd have to take a different class there during the summer too.
-
Good news: I got a response from a second school, finally. Bad news: it was another rejection. RIP my hopes and dreams
-
I never got any correspondence from UVA, but a link appeared at the bottom of my status review page. They didn't want me either. I have four chances left now, and there goes any hope of me getting my homework done tonight.
-
Yeah, their site seems poorly optimized. Try clearing your browser cache and trying again. That's their recommended solution.
-
I've gotten more correspondence from Pitt than JMU, though none of it is about me specifically. Pitt keeps sending me generic emails about open houses, and the program in general, cause i somehow ended up on their prospective student mailing list. JMU: nothing. I actually forgot to register for their MyMadison portal until today, so I hope that doesn't affect anything...
-
Hi! New to this thread, and you are definitely not alone. The only correspondence I've had from any of my schools was my one rejection and a response to an email I sent to Pittsburgh (which was them notifying me they may not even get to look at my application since my recommenders submitted 2 weeks after the deadline!!!). I'm losing my cool too, don't worry. I would say I'm tearing my hair out over it, but I just got a haircut and I don't want to do that. lol

I visited their campus for undergrad, so that's my experience with it. It's better than having never been there at all, I guess. Overall it has a very...preppy vibe. Charlottesville is gorgeous, campus is gorgeous (I went to another, smaller school that has the same architectural style: red bricks, white columns, etc.) but at the time I didn't fit in with the school population at all. The master's program may be different than the general populus too. I don't know where you're from, but if you're not from the south already be prepared for humid, hot, awful summers. Congrats on hearing back! I haven't heard anything from anyone other than WVU's rejection. ):

Everybody keeps talking about "the email" that said that such-and-such school will be likely sending out stuff on X day in March. Am I the only person who hasn't heard anything from any of my schools since my applications were submitted?
-
This might do better in our SLP forum!
-
I finally got my first response! And it was a rejection from my last choice school. Figures. Oh well. One down, five to go.
-
I just received a rejection email from them (my first rejection, too, but they were my last choice so I don't really care much). So that means they needed to deliberate more about your application, I guess. Good luck!
