  1. Finally back in the states... As far as cheddar biscuits, there's no way they could compete with the whole guinea pig, alpaca steak, and beef heart on a stick I had this last week.
  2. Well, I may or may not start rethinking my going to grad school decision. Its now may, and I still haven't heard anything from the department. I emailed them earlier this week and heard nothing back again.
  3. At a large cusco market today with whole pigs, cow faces, pig and chicken feet, and my favorite... A scarf that consisted of an entire taxidermied baby alpaca. it was the most disturbing thing I think I've ever seen.
  4. My daughter had a stuffed sheep that looked a lot like that... But it only had 1 ear. It came that way, from the store. We called it Vincent van Goat
  5. I'll trade you my useless diploma for that stuffed sheep.
  6. I think just mentioning where you will be attending is appropriate, as it is the most important part of your thank you speech Also, I would tell them your new email and say that you hope to keep in touch throughout your career. There are lots of threads about the acceptability of gifts, and I really can't help you there.
  7. OMG... i have 6 stuffed sheep that I sleep with every night (along with being suffocated by my cat) My daughter really loved sheep before she passed away, and I try to collect them... but believe it or not, it's really hard to find cute stuffed sheep. I never understood why people thought I was intimidating or scary. With all self honesty... I'm a pretty friendly person. I may be a "no nonsense" kind of person... and I'll point out if what you're doing is wrong or rude or whatever, but I'm not mean about it, I'm just honest. I think that everybody has their own struggles and deserve as much empathy and understanding as possible. I was always very helpful to my class mates, and research partners. I was never a gossiper. I think it was more that I was reclusive about my personal life and people didn't have any kind of digs on me. Might be the same for you?
  8. I find that the higher up the education ladder you tend to go... the more introverted the people become. Social events exhaust me. Being in the wilderness with my s/o makes me feel invigorated. I'm not good at small talk, and I'm tired of trying to impress people that I don't know. I have thus far been described as "frank" "blunt" "forward" and my all time favorite "scary and intimidating." As you all can tell, my cat loving, flower painting, card making, disney watching self is very scary and very intimidating.
  9. I don't like most people either. I find that a lot of people (especially down south) are very close minded, and generally not open to new and positive experiences. Also, I don't drink. Or party. Or do drugs. My idea of a good time is watching kids movies with popcorn, or going to the zoo or something. Rather than seeing yourself as an antisocial nut, just realize that you have different interests than most people... and just keep doing your own thing. Eventually you will find a couple people who like to do whatever it is you're doing in life, and then you hold on to them. I managed to find someone else who doesn't like people, and now we sit and dislike people together.
  10. I think I'm going to add the top of an antique white chair in the left background. " Its too boring there" quoting my art critique boyfriend.
  11. Finishing up my latest girly flowery art thing. My bf thinks its too girly. I might like, give it to my mom or something lol.
  12. Also, last night I found an almost new 0 degree northface snowshoe mummy sleeping bag for $25 on craigslist. It's awesome. It's 2016 model equivalent is $140.
  13. I dress up as toothless for halloween. And then I sit at home eating caramel corn and watching movies.
  14. If you want to just pass that hypothetical TA job in this general direction...
  15. I only get the stuff with good reviews lol.
  16. Officially the most British statement on this thread.
  17. I love going to the symphony and try to go as often as I can afford. Not really into opera though. Nothing against it, and I respect it quite a bit... but if I'm shelling out money, its going to be at the symphony.
  18. That's part of the problems... I can't really think of people that I like well enough to see in concert. There's hardly anyone I like more than a handful of songs from to begin with. I think the closest thing I've ever come to liking a whole album was the Drink the Sea album by Glitchmob. And that is definitely not the kind of concert I would want to go to. Lol.
  19. @Neist Is it sad that I've never been to a concert before, let alone a rock concert? Never been to a sports game either. @hippyscientist The new apartment we are moving to in august offers free yoga classes in their studio on tuesdays and thursdays. I think I'll really have to try it out.
  20. Well, I went to another rock show this morning. I now own 10 more rocks lol.
  21. You could always pm me if you want.
  22. I actually didn't have to make any for that class. I've only ever made 1 thin section... embarrassing. But I sure do know how to push the button on the centrifuge... lol. I spent an entire summer pushing the centrifuge button ever 15 minutes to an hour, for 20-30 hours a week. And I got paid like $10 an hour to do it. The hardest class I ever took was a "Development of Terrestrial Planets" by my advisor. It wasn't really a lecture, more like a discussion based class. We would read 2-3 papers a week and talk about what was wrong with them lol. And the tests were various problems that haven't actually been solved yet, asking how we would go about approaching them and such. From what I understand... it was the closest to a grad school class I've ever had. We even had to make a god-damned Wikipedia page. I was the only person to actually make an A on the project (and the Class). It was because of all the flashy gifs I made lol https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tessera_(Venus)
  23. Haha... I hate geochem too... but doing thermo and geochronology, a decent amount of geochem comes in handy. I think I'm worried that if I actually took it as a class that I might not pass (well, by grad school standards) Maybe I'll just keep self teaching as much as possible. Also... My ig-met petrology class was the 2nd hardest class I ever took. I spent about 40 solid hours a week on that 4 credit class. The labs alone were a good 20 hours a week. And 2 40 page "articles" along with 2 presentations. Makes me tired just thinking about it.
